If Woody stays (which is a very strong Possibility).

And Sund decides not to force an offensive coach on Woody (which would be plain Stupid).

These are some of the moves that I suggest for Sund..

draft:

Take the best player available.

I wouldn't take Mullen simply because he's 7 foot. He's not that good. I have some Centers in mind.

I wouldn't take Terrance Wiliiams. He can't shoot.

I would definitely take Patrick Patterson or Patrick Mills.

Free agency

  • Sign King Zaza. 5.5 per.
  • Sign Flip. 3 years 18 million.
  • Sign Othello Hunter. - This guy should be our project big! We need to develop this guy.
  • Sign Mario West. - This guy should be our defensive specialist.
  • Lowball Marvin. ~6 per max .
  • Lowball CHillz. ~6 per max..
  • Trade Mo Evans for 2nd round draft pick.
  • Trade Morris for cash considerations.
  • Sign Andre Miller. 4 to 5 years
  • Sign Robert Swift cheap 3 year deal

Reasoning.

  • Keep Flip because he's a scorer.
  • Hunter will be a project and we should definite invest some playing time into this guy.
  • Signing both Marvin and Chillz get their caphold off our books. They sign to cheaper contracts so that we can always trade them after Dec. 15. IN the meanwhile, we let them fight it out for the starting position. With no edict from BK to determine who gets playing time, I think it makes it fair.
  • Trade Morris and Mo because their contribution = big nothing.
  • Sign Andre Miller because he's a pure PG who plays defense. He's not a shooter like Bibby, but hopefully he's a better communicator and leader for our offense. Pure PGs like to run offense. Woody has seemed to be indifferent about what his PG brings in and I'm sure with the coaching that Miller has had, he would be able to bring in a lot.
  • Bring in Swift, first because Sund drafted him, but more importantly because he's a legit 7 footer who can play defense, he was not given a fair shake in Seattle and we can use him to matchup against league bigs.

Horf/Zaza/Swift

Smoove/Hunter

Chilz/Marvin/Patterson

JJ/West

Miller/Acie/Flip

You know that's wishing that Acie is first off the bench for Miller, but more than likely Woody gets Flip.

One other thing is that we need a good big man coach and an offensive coach....

If Woody stays, and essentially things stay the same...

1. Draft Dejuan Blair. He is undersized, but he brings a physical toughness that the Hawks need. Strong offensive rebounder. Set screens. And is more developed offensively than Marvin, Horford and even Josh (inside the paint). He can be an immediate impact player.

2. Acquire Jarret Jack. Make a competitive offer 4 yrs.=44 million... Physical point guard who is a better defender, penetrating and capable outside shooter than Bibby.

3. Sign and trade with Golden State: Marvin Williams for Kelenna Azibuke... Physical combo guard/small forward who is a solid defender that can shoot the three. Athletic.

Keep Zaza.

Let Bibby go.

Let Randolph Morris go.

Keep Mario West.

Let Maurice Evans go.

Develop Othello Hunter and Thomas Gardener.

Make me a believer in Jarrett. Right now, I believe that all the hype surrounding him from Hawks fans is just the fact that he went to Ga Tech.

Here's what some pacer fans say about Jack..

Jarrett Jack: B-

-While more consistent than backcourt buddy TJ Ford, Jack has had horrible shooting nights, and has gone scoreless on more than one occasion. However, he has made up for his shooting with good passing.

New Grade: B+

-The new starter has produced some impressive performances, but is still plagued by some bad decisions and inconsistent shooting.

Jack: B+. Have to admit, I hated him at the beginning of the season. He grew on me big time as the year progressed though. He played in all 82 games for us and was always someone we could count on. He had some big games and really had a knack for hitting that beautiful teardrop shot in the lane at key times. I still don't always like his decision making, but he was a pleasant surprise this year for us. I hope we can retain him next season.

That is OK, but some of the same fans want to trade for Hinrich because they believe Jack is more of BU talent. I don't want to go out and get a guy who is just backup talent because he graduated from Ga Tech. Obviously, his decision making is not the best.

I say let's pour some money into a vet named Andre Miller. A guy who knows how to run an offense...

But please convince me that Jack is more than just a Ga Tech thing.

Andre did have a very productive 2008-09 season, but he will be 34 !!! before next season ends. Miller is at the twilight of his career and athletically (after 30), his game may disappear right before our eyes... I remember when Dominique was dunking in the early 1990's and by the mid 1990's with the Spurs/Celtics, he could barely dunk.

Jarrett has room for improvement, but he is eight years younger (than Miller) and brings a lot of the same skills that Andre bring to the table. I know one play isn't indicative, but I remember when Derrick Rose broke (figuratively) Andre Miller's ankles last year.

Somehow, someway the Hawks need a more athletic, quicker backcourt... and Jarrett may be the best option out there right now...

Jack - for 4yrs / $44M? Are you serious? $11M per? Tell me you're joking!!! That would be the worse overpaid signing in recent history...

Flip - Flip should get a 3yr offer between $10-14M starting around $3M per....3yrs/$18M is too steep!

Zaza - should get about 4yrs / $20-22M - starting around $4.5M per

Bibby - should get about 3yrs / $16-18M - starting around $4.5M per

We would have to wait and see how that would all play out. But, the dubious distinction mentioned above belongs to Craig Claxton.

No way Jack is a $11 mill per year guy.

$6 mill to $7mill tops. Of course the Pacers match that in a heartbeat but Jack is not so good that you over pay him by $4 mill per year just so the Pacers do not match.

I like Jack but not for $11 mill per year.

No.

He tore his achilles tendon in his ankle a few years prior to his production fall off. He regained most of his hops at 31 and came back as good as he ever was. By 34 it was just mother nature and father time grounding Nique.

I agree on Miller. I don't want him at 34, 35, and 36 years of age.

Kidd is better than Andre Miller.

A good thread, and I love the clean layout.

I quoted the above part because you can't do both. You have to choose one or the other, as both as using your full MLE.

As much as I love Flip and what he meant to the 09 Hawks, if we could get Miller in here to run this team, go for it.

Uhm, the Pacer fans are claiming that they can get Jack for next year for 2.5 Million. You Ga Tech homers are ridiculous.

Did you note that I did say Lowball Chillz and Marvin for a deal that maxes at 6. This removes their caphold. Release Bibby, this removes his caphold. Resign Zaza, this releases his caphold. Also, I said trade Mo for a Second and Morris for Cash. OUr second rounders can be Europrojects that can stay in Europe.

With all that money maneouvering, there has too be some free cash available to sign a PG.

Bibby's 15 Million has to count for something?

If Nothing else, I'm willing to listen to other options. The thing about Miller is that I think he can help train Acie. However, either we can try to get him for less money... maybe 3 years 14 Million or we can try to get somebody else. My problem with Jack is that I don't think he's much better than Acie. He's just had playing time.
