What's done is done. Woulda, coulda, shoulda is a saying that everyone has used numerous times in their life.

In this case, we wont truly know how the recent signing of Joe Johnson turns out for possible 6 years. But as a die-hard Hawks fan, I truly think ownership has made the correct move. the owner were faced with a difficult dilemma. If we didn't max JJ he would have left Atlanta and then most fans would continue to rant about how the owners are cheap. It would have hurt the Hawks a lot more to loose JJ than it has thus far to sign him. Plus who knows, we could potentially trade him (not saying we are, but you can never rule that out).

The bottom line is, Joe Johnson has been one of the most consistent players at his position since putting on a Hawks uniform. Since 2006-2007 he has ranked in the top 15 in the NBA in points every year. He is one of very few players that average 20+ points, 4+ APG and 4+ RPG.

He has essentially been the captain of three playoff teams and a three time All Star. He may walk away as the highest paid FA this summer but the fact is we did what we had to.

The bottom line, this move indicates that the owners want this team to remain contenders.

Man we couldve signed LBJ and people up here would've complained.

I like the deal. Lets be real, we couldnt afford to lose JJ. People acting like we have some young star in the wings waiting to explode and JJ is holding them back. NOT!!! We have no one to replace his 20-5-5.

How about we get excited about having our team back and getting rid of that ISO offense. Lets get excited to see how our team performs with the ball moving. Lets get excited about our new young point guard and how he does in the summer league as he gets ready to get some real playing time this season.

During the season it was "all we need is a post presence" or "all we need is a true center." Well if im not mistaken that is all we still need. All this complaining is getting out of hand. WHO WOULD WE HAVE GONE AFTER WITHOUT SIGNING JJ??? Someone answer that please. People say dont sign JJ and then offer some off the wall suggestion. "lets get D wade" after the salary cap restrictions have been posted on this board since the season ended.

Come on guys, get excited about this up coming season. At least we are not the CAVS, NETS, BULLS, HEAT, or KNICKS. 2 or more of them teams gonna be left out in the cold after this FA season. Gutted their rosters for nothing.

Since when ws this team contenders?

Ever since they made the playoffs, they became contenders. Every playoff team has the opportunity

to go all the way and win it all. True, some have only a small chance, but it's still a chance.

Teams that don't make the playoffs have no chance. We hope to obtain players that will increase

our chances.

Retaining JJ or doing a sign and trade for another player the Hawks really needed. It cost us dearly.

Our hopes and dreams are now riding with JJ. If he comes thru, great.

They lost in the 2nd round by an average of 22-25PPG. They didn't even have a shot against Orlando.

We had the 5th best record in the league last year. Like it or not, that makes us contenders.

Had we gone 7 games with orlando and lost the last game by 1 point, it wouildn't have mattered to you right? So stop whining.

They had the 5th best record, but a team with a worse record got to the finals over them. When it got to the playoffs and the games really matter the hawks BARELY beat a slightly above average Bucks team without their 2nd best player. THEN they lost the next series by 20 s0mething points a game. The hawks playoff run this year might have been the worst playoff run ever all and all. Those are the facts.

The series with Orlando was probably the worst playoff series ever.

Contenders don't lose by 25 points per game in a playoff series. Sorry... It doesn't happen.

I think this is a good move and I tought signing Jon Koncak was a good move. In both cases naysayers said "we couldn't afford to let them go since the team would be less without them, but we're upset that they signed these guys." That's just determined to find a reason to whine, IMHO. We had two choices, let Joe go or keep Joe. I'm glad we kept Joe. We'll be better the next couple of years (who can see further than that) than we would have been without him and with more low money retreads from other teams trying to replace him.

You are sooooooo smart.

Anyway, I put the blame on Woodrow. He's gone. It's a new beginning.
