It's time for the new ownership or new investor to be in place. Here's the reason...

Doc's contract expires in the offseason. He's holding off talks with Ainge. He says that he wants to spend more time with the family. That's coach code for "I want to way my options". IF you don't believe me listen to Woody, Nellie, or Rudy T. .. Even Lenny. IF you are a coach, you want to be somewhere coaching!

Rivers is not blind, he has an aging team that has already reached it's peak. They have reloaded a bit by getting Green and Rondo, but without replacing the big three, this team is on it's way back down.

He knows the talent that we have. I think he would love to coach his former franchise.. in the south. The only job that could rival this one for him is Orlando or Miami.

I would hit the freaking ceiling if we got Doc. Coming from the Great Celtics franchise, I'm sure he would ship Joe out immediately again and help select much lower drafted players who could actually help win something.

Saying your're reaching would be an understatement. Why would Doc want this mess of a team? That would be like going from a Marine corp General(tough as nails), to a girl scout leader(bunch of wussies). Think I'd take my chances with Rondo and Green. Go from there. Not to mention FA's WANT to play in Boston. Edited by terrell

now only if the owners are willing to spend money on a respectable coach like doc :kickcan:

The amount of spending isn't the issue anymore and hasn't been for awhile. It's the way the money has been spent that's the issue. We have the league's 8th-highest and the East's 3rd-highest payroll right now. Since every coach in the league except Phil makes less than a mid-level player (and, of course, their salary doesn't factor into the luxury tax), getting a better coach is probably the most cost-effective way to improve a team, so I don't see money as an obstacle to getting a good coach. I know people harp on the reports of LD being the lowest-paid coach in the league, but I honestly think we would have hired LD even if he were a Gentry-to-D'Antoni type of assistant (and thus one commanding a higher salary). They were wooed because LD told them exactly what they wanted to hear, and they got duped by it. Just like they got duped into letting Woody stay on board 2.5 years longer than he should have.

New owners will be nice, but any new owner would also be a businessman, and thus won't spend the luxury tax on a team that isn't likely to reach the ECF. They would, however, make better front office and personnel hirings than ASG does. And they would actually butt out of player personnel decisions and let the front office and coaching staff do their jobs (which is by FAR my biggest gripe about how ASG seems to roll). Overriding Knight when he wanted to fire Woody was, to me, the single dumbest and most chutzpah-filled thing that any Atlanta sports team owner has ever done.

Doc's a great coach but let's not forget he went one-and-done every time his team made the playoffs (including choking away a 3-1 lead against Detroit in 2003) until they assembled the Big Three in Boston in 2007. With a mediocre roster he's been no more of a miracle worker than Woodson. Unless he can turn Teague into the next Rondo this team isn't going anywhere with him.

I don't know much about Doc's previous teams. How was their defense?

I'm only asking because the Celtics are built on some terrific defense but I can't tell if this has to do with their mix of players or the coaching. They do seem to go out and give it their all just about every night.

That roster blows especially considering that Ben Wallace was still learning to play and Maggette was a rookie. Darrell Armstrong, John Amaechi, and Chucky Atkins were their lead scorers.

The job he did with that team impressed the heck out of me. Now, he isn't the best coach in the NBA or anything but he commands respect and has some pretty nice accomplishments to his name.

If Woody had that roster, he would be bragging about how he improved the team from 13 to 20 wins.

so you must rather want LD or woodson only?

I believe Doc will be in Boston or Orlando. I believe it depends on how the playoffs end for both those teams. Dwight is the key. His free agency can position Boston to miss no beat. A flat finish for Orlando means curtains for Van Gundy. That then opens the door for Doc, without menuevering for Dwight.

Doc will only be in Atlanta unless he has a committment by Dwight to be in Atlanta.

Chances are, Doc to Orlando.

I say offer him 8 Million per to be GM/Coach... and stand back.

Let Doc get the players whom he wants.

About the Celtics.

Allen 35

KG 34

Pierce 33...

Those mean something. The core of the Celtics are old.

Johnson 29

Smith 25

Horf 24

Even if Doc decides to move some of the players, he can always get younger. Those Celts are not going to bring back much in trade. Not even KG. The Celtics are phasing out because their core is old and expensive. The hawks just resigned Horf (who is an allstar) and they have Joe Johnson. IF they were to trade Smoove, they could get something good. Or if he was to keep Smoove....he has years ahead of him.

after 2012 KG and Ray are retired which leads to Dwight filling the void. Rondo alone trumps Joe and Al. Dwight, Green, Rondo and an Austin with a second FA are the new C's.

The job he did afterwards with Orlando should not be overlooked either considering that the franchise was hampered with a 20 million Grant Hill sitting at home in a full leg cast throughout Doc's entire run there. The best player they could put with TMac was Mike Miller and Tracy has proven that he's not much of a winner regardless of his supporting cast.

Dwight is everyteam's fantasy. Even ours. If we got Doc... How easy would it be for him to send Horf and filler toOrlando for Dwight when Dwight refuses to reup with Orlando?
