Jaded Hawks fans feel elephant off back

I'm saying the fans (not players) get off the elephant off their back b/c we have seen many more Hawks melt down in the playoffs then these Hawks players have. Our misery has gone back decades.......really half of a century.

The TV analyst pointed out that the last time the Atlanta Hawks actually lead a 2nd round playoff series it was 1988 against Boston with Fratello at the helm.

Can this team get over that hump that has kept this city from truely falling in love with their Hawks ? It looks like it can if Joe Johnson continues to play with agression and swagger while the team as a whole committs to looking for good shots. These guys are focused and playing to their full potential which what we have all been waiting to see.

The Atlanta Hawks made us all proud last night to be NBA basketball fans.

Thank You Hawks !

BTW, it's "Monkey off your back" or "Elephant in the roon". How did the Elephant get on your back?? ;)

Either way, I agree. This team may be truly realizing it's potential at just the right time and the NBA Gods must

be helping too...witness the D Rose ankle sprain at the end of the game!

I think the team is slowly buying into Drew's ideas and realizing they can be great if they just stick to the plan.

Every game, we are taking less and less stupid shots and playing better D for the entire 48 minutes.

Now if only someone can find a way to get the message about "shot selection" to Josh Smith!

Yeah elephants are really heavy. I would think that would cause serious back problems.

Must be a good day to be JJ. Not because he did anything special but just think how low he was last year in round two. He has that swagger. I'd almost given up on him but man....

It's just a damn good day to be a Hawks fan. Yeah they haven't done jack but when you've been the laughing stock of the league for so many years I think it's ok to enjoy a glimmer of success.

Man.............its been so long that it ain't no little monkey. It may have been just a monkey back in 1988 vs. Bird's Celtics or 1994 vs. Miller's Pacers  .

It got even worse since that sweep to the Knicks in the 2nd round back in 1999. A big 'ole freaking Elephant jumped on our back at that point. Heck in the elimination game Atlanta could only muster 66 points back in 1999. The team was then torn apart and the city forgot all about the Hawks for nearly a decade after that. Then 2 more sweeps to the Heat and Magic follow the next time we get to the 2nd Round.

The last 2 seasons fans have walked into Phillips Arena for Game 3 of Round 2 scared and expecting to lose. The Hawks lived up to those fan perceptions by not only losing but being blown out and looking like they did not belong. Well, not this Hawks team ! Not anymore ! Game 3 Friday night there will be something different in the air at Phillips. Something many Hawks fans have not sniffed in their life times. The Hawks players will sense it too. We all actually feel like this team not only belongs but we all believe in this team's ability to win when it matters most. Now that the player show they believe we can finally believe too.

These Hawks are conquering their demons one by one:

1. They got revenge on the Magic for their 2nd Round sweep last year.

2. They got that 2nd Round win to not only get the monkey off the current players back but it got the elephant off the fan's back while setting the tone for the entire series.

Before I completely relieve their vertebral columns of the pachyderm, I do need to see this team cut out the blowout playoff losses. Game 5's 25-point loss @ Orlando is hopefully becoming more the aberration than the rule. We'll see how it goes the rest of the way. But it was great to see this team jump on an opponent from the beginning and not slide completely into the abyss when their adversaries make the inevitable run.

Yep, it is going to be a different type of crowd when they return for Game 3. You won't see nearly as many fans in there chanting 'MVP' for Derrick Rose as there was in the regular season.

But forget about that. There's a game on Wednesday. Why not come back home up 2-0???

^That took a whole 36 minutes. We're slippin'! lol

Also LOL at Marvin on 790 defending Smoove as a "streaky shooter". Whenever Arthur Triche retires, I nominate Marvin to take over.

Insert obligatory "Josh Smith is so fat he could have an elephant on his back" joke in 3, 2, 1 ... :bottom:

There's a USC study just released on the interweb that confirmed the long believed suspicion that HD cameras actually add 20 lbs.

:Talking Ear Off:

Bulls in four. All blow out wins. Like last season's second round for Atlanta.

Now, dang it, who forgot to send this memo to the Hawks? Heads will roll.

We can't have this little P Ant team gaining confidence in it's self like this.

To top that off, their fans, although in shock, now are starting to believe. This

is terrible.

If that wasn't enough, our MVP was made to look almost human. We can tell

everyone that he's still suffering from a sore foot and that's why it happened.

Problem is, this unknown Jeff Teague made him look bad. This must stop.

Our men in striped shirts must call a lot of fouls. On JT and never on our MVP.

This stuff must stop. The Bulls must move on and the Hawks must die. Again, who

is responsible for this memo not going to Larry Drew's team?

Maybe a gorilla then.

Last nights game was the first second round playoff game the Hawks have won since '97. Been a long time.
