nathan2331
Hawks trade: Paul Millsap and Lou Williams Hawks receive: Omer Asik, Aaron Afflalo and Tobias Harris Magic trade: Aaron Afflalo and Tobias Harris Magic receive: Paul Millsap and Chandler Parsons Rockets trade: Jeremy Lin, Omer Asik, Chandler Parsons, the#27 pick and a future first Rockets receive: Carmelo Anthony Knicks trade: Carmelo Anthony Knicks receive: Jeremy Lin, Lou Williams, the #27 pick and a future first via the Rockets Why Orlando does it: It allows the Magic to draft Exum at 4 (by moving Oladipo to SG) and gives them an effective starting lineup of: Exum/Oladipo/Parsons/Millsap/Vucevic Why Houston does it: They clear out their mess of contracts and land the third star they're so keen on in a sign and trade. Why the New York does it: They acquire some draft picks while receiving some expiring contracts for the 2015 draft class. They get some compensation for Carmelo and bring Linsanity back to New York. Why we do it: We turn Millsap and Williams into three players who can be important for us. I also flirted with the idea of the #12 pick for Schröder but I didn't think it would be good for either team. We'd be left with: Teague/Mack/Schröder Afflalo/Korver/(Draft Pick-Young) Harris/Carroll/ Horford/Scott/Muscala Asik/Antić/Bebe And we still maintain a bit of cap space for this upcoming season. So, what do you think?

Houston gets nothing from us and we actually get pretty good value for Millsap.
nathan2331
Houston is over a barrel and can't get off unless some dumb team (s) let them off by taking Lin/Asik. I'm hoping we stay out of it. Stop worrying about Houston and look at how we potentially improve. Afflalo and Harris upgrade 2 positions. Horford moves to PF. We retain cap space while getting a player who has All-star potential.

If by pick swap you mean we get the 4th pick while they get our 15th pick then hell yes I do it for sure.

nathan2331
It's not so much worrying about what Houston gets, it's acknowledgement that none of these deals happen absent Houston's desire to unload Asik/Lin for nothing in return. I should also preface my comments with the fact that I'm not totally sure Horford is better for us at the 4. None of the players added in the deal are all-star caliber IMO. Asik is a slightly above average specialist who's paid like he's Lebron. In this deal, Harris is the player who I think could be an All- star. He can't shoot the 3, but he's pretty efficient nonetheless. He averaged over 17 ppg and 8 rpg per 36 min and I think he has the potential to do more. I feel that moving forward, we have to move Horford to PF. He may not be handing in trade requests, but he will be a free agent soon. I honestly think he's fine at center right now, but at the same time he's made it clear he thinks he's a PF. Asik is inferior to Millsap, but that difference is offset by Afflalo who adds scoring and shooting to our team. I just feel that with this trade, we upgrade in multiple positions while maintaining flexibility.

nathan2331
The 12th outright yes, swap no. I think it turns into an overpay by the Magic then. Afflalo and Harris together IMO are better than Millsap- and in two positions we need upgrading in.

Admin
Wow Atlanta make out like bandits here. We get 3 starters for 1 and a 6th man. Harris has the potential to be a real stud as he's a better rebounding SF than even Kawhi. If he can get some type of 3pt shot he's a potential All Star in out system. Afflalo is a stud as well. DMC and Korver go to the bench, Horfird moves to the 4 and Asik locks down the paint. We'd be outstanding defensively and rebound wise and dangerous enough from outside. I really like it from our perspective.

If we are serious about moving Horford to C, this is the way I'd go about it.
Guest
I'm not in love with Tobias Harris, his production won't last very long. He's a poor man's big baby.
nathan2331
I'm not in love with Tobias Harris, his production won't last very long. He's a poor man's big baby. How do you see that? From the little film I've seen, the only similarities between the two is that they don't jump high. While he's no stopper defensively, I wouldn't say he's bad to the point of no improvement. And I don't see how his production isn't sustainable. He's shown the ability the get to the basket and finish effectively without relying on athleticism alone (70.5% FG around the rim). He rebounds very well for his position. Not to mention he's only 21. He's a jump shot away from being an all-star, and I bet he'd shine with us.
