Money Mike 2

Nice performance from Muscala last night. Although it was only the Sixers. It was nice seeing a centre grabbing boards and hitting shots. Hopefully this guy replaces Pero on the bench. He was quite active on the boards and it was nice having a centre clog the paint and not float the 3 point line. I also thought his screens were quite strong too.

Muscala 19 mins - pts 12, 6/8, rbds 7, asts 3.

Pero 12 mins - pts 5 2/6, rbds 0, asts 0.

As limited as the stat is...

Muscala's PER: 21.62

Antić's PER: 8.65

Just saying. And Moose is clogging up the inside and setting pretty big picks his damn self, on younger legs and 65% of the salary...

Pero is used for beef inside and for setting giant picks. Muscala can't replicate that. Pero's role is pretty cemented, so keep wishing.

I escapes me how many miss Pero's value to the team, which is understandable when judging him by his bloopers or his stat line. Luckiky I can see why our defensive ratings and net production are spiked when he's on the floor.

I'm very encouraged by Moose, though. I'm thinking some combination of Olynyk, Splitter, and Kaman in a year or two. Just want him to move a little more fluid and put on a few pounds. Bud, if you're listening, let's see how Payne can hit the glass versus Vucevic this weekend, please.

That depends on the matchups.  Moose gives us a different look against team who don't have muscle.

Not to mention, Antić rarely makes mistakes on offense and defense unless the clock is down on offense while Mike is constantly in the wrong places and gets out muscled on the block. I like Moose a lot more than Antić but I understand why Antić plays.

I too have been wondering the lack of playing time for our young players, http://hawksquawk.net/community/topic/401400-put-shelvin-in-a-suit-please/?p=737000. I presumed it was Jenkins lack of D that was limiting his court time and it was puzzling that Antić, who seems to miss so many shots, is on the court so much.

Thus I decided to do some research and see what the numbers were between head to head match ups.

John Jenkins vs Shelvin Mack

Since John was out with a bad back I decided to compare the 2012-2013 years for both players.

Overall GP MIN OffRtg DefRtg NetRtg AST% AST/TO AST Ratio OREB% DREB% REB% TO Ratio eFG% TS% USG% PACE PIE John Jenkins 61 14.8 98.0 105.9 -7.9 10.5 1.40 13.3 2.1 9.6 5.8 9.5 53.6 57.6 18.3 95.22 9.2 Shelvin Mack 31 13.4 100.8 104.1 -3.3 26.5 2.00 28.9 0.8 9.6 5.4 14.5 53.2 53.7 18.9 94.04 8.1

John's Net Rtg is even worse this year -15.5, while Shelvin has remained stable at -3.3.

Caveat: John's PIE is higher despite having a worse Net Rtg

Muscala vs Antić 2013-2014

Overall GP MIN OffRtg DefRtg NetRtg AST% AST/TO AST Ratio OREB% DREB% REB% TO Ratio eFG% TS% USG% PACE PIE Mike Muscala 20 10.7 94.5 114.8 -20.3 5.8 0.58 7.1 8.9 20.6 14.4 12.2 42.5 48.0 19.2 98.04 6.5 Pero Antić 50 18.5 104.7 101.0 3.8 10.0 1.05 13.3 7.0 18.9 12.9 12.6 51.4 54.5 18.2 96.67 7.7

Muscala vs Antić 2014-2015

Overall GP MIN OffRtg DefRtg NetRtg AST% AST/TO AST Ratio OREB% DREB% REB% TO Ratio eFG% TS% USG% PACE PIE Mike Muscala 7 10.7 96.9 99.2 -2.4 6.4 0.60 8.1 16.4 10.4 13.4 13.4 57.4 59.9 19.6 97.31 11.0 Pero Antić 19 16.8 104.6 91.0 13.7 7.4 1.23 12.3 5.8 12.4 9.0 10.0 44.4 49.3 15.6 98.41 5.0

Lessons learned:

1) John despite being a better scorer gives up too much on D, negating any of his offensive benefit, while Shelvin seems to hold his own.

2) Pero is an advanced stat monster, showing a big positive Net Rtg. While Mike has improved his Net Rtg, he is almost 15 points worse then Pero. But givens Mike's PIE and the fact his Net Rtg is almost equal this year he probably will see more playing time this season.

Pero sucks and is less talented than Zaza but he provides spacing and he's good at post defense and does a great job of moving his feet when hedging. He's a defensive specialist like Jason Collins but not as strong but better feet and defensive impact. Him and Horford are defensive menace when paired together. The issue is offense. You can get away with Pero with Sap but at least this season, not with Horf.

Pero sucks at shooting. Period. But like you mentioned he provides other things that just won't show in the stat sheet.

Why are his teammates passing him the ball at the end of the shot clock though? STOP IT.

Pero gets his hands on so many balls but just can't seem to actually grab the rebounds lol.

I think he more closely resembles Money Maker Mike...haterzzz

(and clearly @Dolfan23 is Froggy Fresh, ya heard?)

I don't know if I'm more disturbed by the comparison or that you know whoever this weirdo is.  If I'm any weird Youtube personality I'm more PewDiePie than anyone else.

When asked about Muscala's performance after the game, head coach Mike Budenholzer complimented his activity and the energy he brings to the court.

"His length is always something that stands out every time Mike gets to play. He affects the game on the defensive end, at the rim. He alters shots, blocks shots. On the boards, defensively and offensively, he has a presence. Tonight he made a few shots, reacted well to situations. The game slowed down for him a little bit tonight. Playing in the D-League for a couple of games was good for him. There's nothing like getting game action. It prepares you for when you get an opportunity to play."

After a solid showing in summer league and the preseason, its been tough to find consistent minutes for Muscala during the regular season. He has played in just seven games this season and did a quick two-game stint in the D-League last week just to get him some time on the court. He talked about Wednesday's performance after the game and how he is just trying to stay ready for when his turn to play comes.

"It felt good, I didn't know what to expect. I just have to be ready every day, and do what the team asks of me. I'm just getting used to the system. When I signed last year, I wasn't used to the system. I've grown a lot since then. Being here over the summer helped me too."

Muscala is in a tough spot with several more experienced players in front of him in the rotation. However, the best way to earn minutes is to perform well when opportunities do come and he was able to that on Wednesday night.
