ESPN Grades the Hawks Trade to Knicks

The Sprus last five 1st round picks:

2015, Nikola Milutinov, Euro Stash

2014, Kyle Anderson, kept

2013, Livio Jean-Charles, Euro Stash

2012, No pick

2011, Cory Joseph, kept

They really don't do a lot in the draft for "right now". How happy would you be if we took a Euro player in the 1st round to stash away for two to three years?

So you're just going to leave out Leonard? smh

Leonard was drafted by the Pacers. If he had already been gone or a player the Pacers liked would have fell to them, the Hill for Leonard trade never would have happened. Bud was one of Leonard's biggest supporters on draft night btw.

BS. Leonard was drafted for the Spurs. Big difference. Let's not pretend Memphis didn't draft Pau Gasol.

Reading is fundamental:

Leonard was selected with the 15th overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft by the Indiana Pacers but was traded that night to the San Antonio Spurs along with the rights to Erazem Lorbek and Davis Bertans in exchange for George Hill.[11] On December 10, 2011, following the conclusion of the NBA lockout, he signed a multi-year deal with the Spurs.[12]

The Spurs liked Leonard obviously, but he was traded after the Pacers took him. Two options are there for the Pacers. Leonard is gone, no trade. Someone the Pacers like better than Hill falls, no trade.

Its not B.S to think either or both of those things could not happen. Its just B.S. to think the Spurs always draft well; and draft for right now. At the end of the day, even if they drafted Leonard. Thats one starter in five drafts. Thats not exactly great odds.

The 20-year-old Oubre, who stands 6-foot-7 and weighs 200 pounds, averaged 9.3 points and 5.0 rebounds in his lone season with the Jayhawks.

Chad Ford had Oubre as high as No. 5 on his Big Board during the season, but ranked him 16th in his final edition. Ford noted that Oubre needs time to develop, as he is "further away than a lot of the other players on the board."

Ford's analysis: "He's very young and his basketball IQ is low. ...If he puts in the work -- a big if -- he could be one of the best 8 or 9 players in this draft."

With their second-round pick, No. 49 overall, the Wizards took Iowa power forward Aaron White. The 60th-ranked prospect on Ford's board, White posted 16.4 points and 7.3 rebounds per game for the Hawkeyes as a senior.

doesn't matter. that is still who they came out of the draft with so technical they drafted him. Thats like saying Portland didn't draft Aldridge etc. Who cares who originally picked him if the guy played for the team since day one.

Especially since most of those deals are made where the team picking (Indy with Leonard, us with Gasol, etc.) is doing so at the trading partner's direction.

Because they did not draft him. They traded for him. And one starter in five drafts is not something to get all hyped about. Hill was drafted 26th by the Spurs in 2008 and traded for Leonard who was taken 15th by the Pacers in 2011.

People here seem to be hung up about where Hardaway was drafted. That's really not important. What is important is what Hardaway does for us the next two seasons. If he proves out to be our George Hill at the shooting guard position, its all good in my book.

Im sure the hawks just magically selected grant last night and got entirely lucky that that is who the Knicks wanted.... Lol

We got lucky with Pau Gasol, Grant and others.  I bet Bud was like "man, I want to deal this pick for THJ but I soooo hope the Knicks want Grant.  If only there was some way they could tell us who they wanted so we could convey that particular person's draft rights to New York.  Oh well.  We'll just pick who we like and then hope NY is interested."
