Premium Member Diesel Posted July 27, 2021 Premium Member Report Share Posted July 27, 2021 The last couple of championships have been won by rebounding. Milwaukee definitely showed how rebounding can be a weapon against Phoenix. It's an age old strategy... limit your opponents rebounds and you should be able to beat them. Right now we have the league's best rebounder in Clint. And we come in 5th in the league in rebounding. The order is: Utah, Milwaukee, New Orleans, Memphis then Us. IN the playoffs, we turned out 9th. And we were about 7 rebounds worse than Milwaukee. Our playoffs offensive rebounds fall to 12th. A full 3.7 orpg behind Milwaukee. My question is how can we improve our rebounding?
nathan2331
It seemed to me that we opted not to crash the offensive boards in a meaningful to prevent easy transition offense for our opponents. Especially against the Sixers and Bucks with Simmons and Giannis, you want to limit their opportunities in transition. Philly was second in the playoffs with 14.3 fastbreak points, Milwaukee was 3rd with 14.2 .Part of seeing an improvement in rebounding would be for us to emphasize crashing the offensive boards more... but that won't necessarily result in a better outcome. Otherwise, our guards and wings have to compete more for rebounds. Boxing out, anticipating better, playing tougher is the difference. We can improve, but personnel wise aside from Capela, Collins and maybe Okongwu our key players are not plus rebounders at their positions. Do keep in mind that we faced the 3 top teams in rebounds per game in the playoffs, so while that is evidence that we need to be a better rebounding team moving forward, we'd probably would have looked better if we faced different opponents.
Premium Member Diesel Posted July 28, 2021 Author Premium Member Report Share Posted July 28, 2021 I do believe that on the defensive boards, we can box out better. That was one of my complaints in the playoffs.
thescout
Hawks need to get bigger. You can't teach 7 ft and it shows deep in the playoffs. While Collins also got boards it just seemed he and Cap could not hang with the better rebounding teams. Overall Hawks need to do a better job boxing out and not allowing 2nd,3rd etc shots. 2
dalamchops
hunter/cam for a full playoffs probably would've made a difference
