it's almost as if they should stop testing perfectly healthy young adults.

Perfectly healthy???

The way I understand it is that under the new protocols for the 2021-22 season, vaccinated players were not getting tested daily like last season.  Those currently being tested seem to have symptoms or were in close contact.

Edited for correction:

The NBA reinstituted regular testing for fully vaccinated players last month in an effort to combat spread that might result from Thanksgiving travel and family contact.

Seems as if the Thanksgiving spread is a thing.  Look for much of the same over the Christmas break.

I'm going to disagree here.  Once your vaccinated, your risk is very low. Young healthy athletes that are vaccinated,  infitesimally low. As I've asked before why do sports leagues have stricter covid protocols than seemingly every other business,  including hospitals.  I've yet to hear a cogent answer to this question.

I should clarify.  Stop testing ASYMPTOMATIC players.    What is the point of that other than to enhance the fear porn?

Hmmmm, well isn't the point of testing to make sure carriers don't spread it to vulnerable folk?  Really to try to keep from spreading it at all because, eventually, it ends up in the hands (or lungs) of folks that can/will die from it?

That said, I'm not here to fight.  Clearly some of you disagree with the whole 'covid' thing and that's ok.  Just trying to hazard an answer to the question(s).

Well, I guess I am trying to fight with @bleachkit.  I need to channel some-a this anger from last night's game(sic).  Put up yer dukes, grumpy cat.

I'm not against testing. I'm asking why do young athletes need testing, protocols and safeguards that go above and beyond seemingly any other industry. There's no scientifically justifiable reason. Maybe it's time the NBA dialed down their protocols a little bit.

I'm not here to fight either.    But, who are the vulnerable folk?      Everyone who is vulnerable and cares about his/her own life is vaccinated.   COVID deaths amongst vaccinated are extremely low and almost nonexistent.

So who is vulnerable and who are we protecting?    just idiots who refuse to get vaccinated.  And why should anyone give a crap about protecting those people?

And why does the NBA only care about protecting people from sick NBA players?  NBA sure doesn't care about the fans who are being packed into the arenas maskless for the most part.

It's all so idiotic and hypocritical you would think we were living in the Onion at this point.

On a serious note, I'm really not trying to fight but this seems really obvious to me.  They're constantly in/out of public spaces, traveling, in crowds, etc.  Shouldn't they want to be tested often?  They seem to fit the textbook model of a person most likely to pick it up.

And, as such, are likely spreaders.  It's not about them being young/healthy.  It's about who they spread it to.

Again, not pro/anti.  Just seems that's the obvious reason.

I dunno.  Despite my enormous brain, I don't have all the answers ... for once 😏.

Maybe it's just for appearances?  Maybe it's just for that risk, however small, that somebody's vaccinated granny ends up dying from it?

Maybe they should step it back, but don't for fear that it'd send the wrong messaging?

Who knows but there's clearly a full-on outbreak underway.  Too bad the Hawks SUCK right now and can't take advantage of it. (did I say that out loud?)

Spreading it to who though?     the only people at serious risk are unvaccinated and they've had plenty of chances to get the shot.  Why should the NBA care about those people?

yep there's an outbreak and the only people being hurt en masse are unvaccinated.   Which brings me back to wondering why anyone should go out of their way to protect those people.

Yea the 80 year old greeter at Wal mart needs less testing than a 25 year old basketball players. Gotcha.

That's interesting.  Wal-mart generates as much revenue off the 80 yo greeter and, as such, can justify the expense of frequent testing?  Super weird.  /sarcasm

C'mon, you know better than to make that comparison.
