The thing about slipping screens, is there are times in which you need to hold the screen, in order to give Trae a clean opportunity to turn the corner and shoot the floater.  Capela and Collins are notorious for not holding screens.  Capela will slip a screen to get the quick roll at the basket.  Collins will do the same thing, but he also pops out to the other side of the 3 point line.

One of the things I always commented Bruno Fernando on in his rookie year, is that he always held the screen for Trae, and sought out to make contact with Trae's defender.  Bruno and Len would always hold the screen, before rolling.  Damian Jones would always slip the screen, and go quick as he could toward the basket.

Needless to say, Trae's minutes were maximized when he played with Len and Bruno, as opposed to Jones.  It's also when he really discovered how effective his floater could be.

Honestly...  Collins was not bread as a PNR specialist.  At Wake, he was just their #1 option in a motion type offense.   Finished a lot of Alley Opps...

JC is elite at slipping screens. Very underrated skillset in a player, especially a big.

JC doesn't even set screens anymore.  He just runs out there, makes a tenth of a second appearance and then slips the "screen".

It's probably the reason Trae doesn't like running PnR with him anymore.  At least Capela puts a body on someone before rolling to the hoop.  JC doesn't even touch anyone.

Fouls Fouls Fouls

I don't know if it's his technique or what but earlier in the season, refs made it a point to call him for the offensive foul on the screen.   They still do it.  I've noticed that he doesn't engage the screen now also.  I think that's by design.  He's not the same guy that ate up KD with good picks and slips last year.   I think Nash gave the refs a laundry list of things that he didn't like about us and they listened.

Bogi had a good night tonight.  Still not taking back anything i said about him.  Way to often does he do the complete opposite of tonight and what pisses me off even more is i know he can play like this.  We have seen it over the years and he gets lazy.  I don't know if it's him not liking playing with Trae and gets lazy because he doesn't have the ball in his hands often.  Or if it's he sulks because he is on the backup squad and gets lazy because he is pouting.   Actually i didn't get to see the start of this game was he in the starters unit again or on the backups?

Off the bench.

The reason Nate wants him off the bench is because he can play like this....controlling the tempo and pace, running the offense, getting to the free throw line.

Oh i fully agree with Nate in doing so actually we need someone with his potential off the bench.  The problem is he gets in his emotions and gets lazy all the time not putting in any effort on defense.   He is alot like Trae in this but the difference is Trae puts in 10x more effort on offense than bogi does to counter this.

For one night, Bogi played up to his potential. Don't worry folks, I did ship him the mirror just in time for last night's game y'all.

Thing is, Bogi, that mirror is NOT a single-use item. Let's see how he does the rest of the season.

Post all star break

Bogi 17/4/4 - gotten to the line 34 times in 13 games (91% from the line),  Defensive rating 118

Huerter 11/4/2 - gotten to the  line 5 times in 12 games (made 3).  Defensive rating 117

3 points from the line in 12 games for the starting 2 guard.   That's unacceptable.

Bogi hasn't had a good year but he is the better player.   He should be starting.  I don't care that he plays starters minutes, it matters how you start the game and it matters that the better players start.
