Worst-to-Not-Too-Shabby in one year! Marynell Meadors is the WNBA's Woody. Dream fans canNOT stand her at ALL. But the team keeps on winning, so what're they going to do? She'll pretty much have to get Coach and/or Executive of the Year. Going big+Chamique & Snow+Dumping BMoney+Bringing Back Latta was the right mix for a swift turnaround. Still hadn't figured out what dirty pictures of the coach Shalee Lehning has in her posession, though, to justify her minutes. With 5500 attendance (that was roughly Saturday's number, too), though, they'd better be in a win-now situation. Kind of like the Arena League... "Wait Til Next Year" probably won't cut it these days. ~lw3

Vicks signs with the Philadelpia Eagles!
lethalweapon3 replied to Wurider05's topic in Other Sports Forum
WHO LET THE DAWGS OUT *woof* *woof* *woof* *woof* *woof*... Good low-risk concept for both Philly and Mike. At Lincoln Financial, the PETA plants can dare to distract Eagles fans from football at their peril. Vick can step in at QB only if McNabb gets injured or totally collapses... or can learn the ropes at WR or Special Teams. Can spend all season holding a clipboard and reading the playbook in the worst case. ~lw3 -
One mini-version of the Jersey concept: Mo Evans Randolph Morris Sean Williams Chris Douglas-Roberts Good: Bolsters NJ's veteran presence at the backup wing (Hayes & Evans backing up CLee & Simmons); NJ moves player (Williams, the T-Mobile Terror) who's worn out his welcome but can start fresh here; Frees up a roster spot for 2010 (NJ has two 1st round draft picks); Minutes-wise, more reliance on Lopez/Boone upfront, helping NJ achieve a short-term objective (i.e., tank, but look good doing it); ATL gets a backup PF-C that can block a shot or two, adds a young and decent mid-range shooter to the mix. Bad/Ugly: NJ will want an expiring contract at the 3; No glaring need for Evans if Simmons is healthy/Terrence Williams develops quickly; NJ will likely release RandMo if they can; Is Sean Williams talented enough/reliable enough as a first-tier backup?; Not a ton of minutes for CD-R barring injuries; Nets fans will wish the tanking approach wasn't so blatantly obvious. ~lw3

Funny, I wanted Maynor or Lawson on draft night, even though I believe Flynn and Teague will have superior careers. I suppose I thought either Maynor or Lawson was in a better position to help this team win in the near term. ~lw3

Yep, you're exactly right, thanks! I could've sworn there used to be (B. Wallace/R. Wallace) but that was just the box scores, not the jerseys. They didn't precede initials on the Williams boys (Shellhead & Marvin) and not even the "Smiths" (Donta & Josh). It would be unneccessary for the very reasons you cited. I was watching some old NBA game where "MARQUES" Johnson had his whole name in small caps on the back of a Bucks jersey (to distinguish himself from Mickey???) and that was where the thought came up. Obviously common sense eventually prevailed.

A useless Q:, indeed, but what the heck, it's August... If we somehow sign Joe (Joseph?) Smith... will both Joe & Josh have to sport their first+last names on their jerseys? Abbreviations for "Josh" probably won't do much good, and I'm not sure Josh has a middle name with a differing initial (if so, hopefully it's not an "R"). Might the NBA allow for a "He Hate Me"-style "J-Smoove" above the #5? Could sell a few more jerseys that way, I imagine. ~lw3

I recall that much of the enthusiasm over RandMo's signing related to the fact it wouldn't be Kwame Brown eating up cap space to toil on the end of the bench. ~lw3 -

Just a postmortem note that the recently closed thread vote should've been a 37-0 sweep. My apologies, as I errantly was thinking of Anthony Randolph when I picked BWright. Right team, wrong skinny forward. ~lw3 -
Best case: 50-54 wins, Dirty South champs, 2nd seed, trip to the EC Finals Minimum acceptable: 44-48 wins, middle of the pack (4th-6th seed), trip to the EC Semis... 2 reg season appearances on TNT/ESPN A couple fewer wins wouldn't be too bad, especially if the Heat (who need Boozer or something else up front) and the Wizards get healthier/better. The division is likely to be more competitive this year. ~lw3

Can I add to the pile for potential PF's or PF/C's? No particular order... Brandon Bass? Alexander Johnson? (rotator cuff healed?) Leon Powe? (ACL status?) Rod Benson? ~lw3

Took me years to find Britton Johnsen's jam on King Crab in his 1st summer league game. I thought he paid people off to keep the video off the air. ~lw3 -
Wonderful. The acting in this movie was solid (even most of the supporting roles) and sold the comedy even during its most depraved and insane moments. The plot got drawn out a bit when they're chasing their own tail figuring out the clues, but when you're still trying to catch your breath from 2 minutes ago the lulls don't matter a bit. There even were some pretty decent morality plays in the midst of it all. It was like "There's Something About Mary" to me, but with the uproarious laughter spread out better throughout the flick. The gross-out humor was very gross, but no worse than horror flicks... you turn your eyes away when you know you've seen too much, but you turn your eyes away while still cracking up here. I think the critics came in expecting "Saving Silverman" or something wretched (Mike Tyson? 3 men and a baby? Asian gangstas? how can this possibly be good or even stand out?), and were so pleasantly surprised their consensus just made the movie look like its overrated when it was really underrated from the beginning. ~lw3

(Smoove + Kryptonite) = (Smoove - Athleticism) = (Smoove*0.6) = (Antoine Walker) = (Employee #5?) The Shimmy Shaker was still a three-time all-star, albeit because of where he played and because of his role on that team during his "athletic" peak. So that would still place Smoove above-average, even if he always falls just short of All-Star status. ~lw3

Even with Mr. Cheezy Doodles gone, the current crew at the Worldwide Leader in Sports (Madame Burke excepted) has helped me establish a wondrous newfound relationship with my Mute button. In a few years, after Woody gets canned and runs to the know-it-all TV booth, while Barry and Mark Jaxn snare their unjustly-desired coaching jobs, Woody'll have plenty of time to dish out some verbal karma. ~lw3

They should not allow Zaza to walk out unless Gortat (or somebody marginally better salary-wise) is in the revolving door to replace him. I can see the Knicks, Warriors or Lakers making a run at him. ~lw3 -

Bib-bye! Unless he luvs ATL enough to bring his annual salary below $9.5 mill per year... and be somebody's handsomely-paid backup within three seasons. If Marvin can't accept the QO salary then he's outta here too. ~lw3 -
June 7, 1983 New York Times The Chicago Bulls today reached agreement on compensation to be given to the Atlanta Hawks for the rights to sign Kevin Loughery as their new coach. General Manager Rod Thorn said Loughery will come to Chicago Tuesday. He said he was optimistic that the Bulls could reach agreement with the Hawks' coach on a contract. If the (typo: they meant to say Bulls) sign Loughery, they will give the Hawks their second-round pick in this month's National Basketball Association draft as compensation. Thorn dismissed Paul Westhead last month after the Bulls finished 28-54. Loughery, who has one year left on his current contract, worth about $200,000, said he was optimistic he would join the Bulls. ''I was very fond of Atlanta and the Hawks,'' said Loughery. ''It's just a situation where I'm looking for security.'' The Hawks, meanwhile, have asked the Knicks for permission to speak to one of their assistant coaches, Mike Fratello. ~lw3
