Last year the Hawks were the worst 3 pt shooting team in the league at 31%. Now they are one of the best and are likely to get better as Salim and Marvin develop.

Remember that they are averaging over 100 ppg this month.

This summer they need to address the D. A defensive big and a legit starting pg and they are set.

Things would have been a lot different if we had a guy like Billy Knight, a great talent evaluator, running things back then.

Like many of you want BK to do, Pete drafted based on who would make the biggest immediate impact. He passed over Cory Maggette to take Jason Terry. He would have passed on Pau Gasol to take Shane Battier.

See, you have this warped idea that a team is supposed to be able to completely overhaul their roster, getting rid of several bad contracts and a group of completely mismatched players, and compete immediately.

I bet you expect a seed to sprout the minute you put it in the ground.

So, don't try to spin this off into something else. You wanted instant gratification, and even though Billy Knight told EVERYONE from the very beginning that he was not going to look for a quick fix, that's what you expected for some damn reason.

he is the most underappreciated player in the entire NBA. While he doesnt have the physical tools that McGrady has, I guarantee you that Detroit wouldnt trade him for T-Mac, and there are many GMs out there that I am quite sure would take Billups over him. Billups the epitome of what a team player is and is a HUGE part of why the Pistons win ... and not to beat a dead horse, but its the same thing Paul is doing with the Hornets. Sometimes the most talented player isnt the best player.

You ALWAYS take the most talented player. You never settle for less talent, because you will always bypass the better player by doing that.

If Houston offered McGrady to Detroit for Billups (which they wouldn't do), Detroit would jump all over the deal. Why? Because you can find players like Billups off the scrap heap. That's where he came from. The scrap heap. Four years ago, Chauncey Billups was nothing more than a thicker version of Jason Terry.

Nothing to spin KB, we really needed a point guard,we had a glut at the forward position, there were 2 point guards and a tweener forward available, all have star potential, and we take the forward to increase our glut there..Now, Paul is turning into a star point, and we still really need one..Regardless of what you and BK said, JJ is not a point guard. Meanwhile, Marvin is doing his best impression of Darko...Doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure that out..(no pun intended)

had they won. KB is right though, its easy to find an almost 2 time finals MVP and soon to be 2006 league MVP on the scrap heap. Thats why everyone has a guy like that. Maybe that guy will be Lue for us, right Exodus?

Just to interject here... There are several players with Marvin's lack of ability and "potential" in this league. A few names that come to mind are Tim Thomas and hell Dorell Wright and Darius Rice... Even in Atlanta...

Too bad none of those players have the ability and potential of Marvin. If they did, then your point might have some validity. However, since none of them come even close to Marvin in terms of ability and potential, your point has no validity.

Without the talent of Rasheed, Detroit doesn't win the championship, no matter what combo guard Chauncey Billups does.

Let's pass on the one player that has superstar potential in the draft, especially considering the fact that opportunities to draft players like him don't come around very often. Let's pass on that opportunity to take one of two players, neither of whom fit the philosophy we are employing. Basically, it's the Pete Babcock approach. Go in without a plan, ignore talent, and draft based only on need and immediate impact.

Let's take either the guy that doesn't have the size to fit in our philosophy, or the guy that doesn't have the athleticism to fit in our philosophy. All the while, there is a player that is tailor made for the Hawks philosophy, and yet, he's the one player in the draft that has superstar written all over him.

I bet you would have passed on Lamar Odom to take Andre Miller back in the 1999 draft if it came to the Hawks. They needed a point guard, and even though Lamar Odom was far more talented and had a much higher upside, Andre Miller was the point guard.

Well, actually Pete drafted for need over talent in that draft, just like so many of you want Billy to do for some reason. Pete took Jason Terry instead of going with the talent of Corey Maggette.

You realize that Maggette is frequently cited as being incapable of grasping a team concept and not nearly as good as his stats indicate? And it took 3 or 4 teams to figure that out. And he has helped the Clippers win how many games?

They made the conference finals without Rasheed. Without Billups they wouldn't have gotten there.

I mean isnt the award the "Most Valuable Player" award? Wouldnt that mean that since he was the winner (and was said to be on track to win last years as well) that he is/was their most valuable and most important player>
