txsting
Let's retread this issue considering Morris's play this year. Of course you are interested. Maybe. Is he a headcase? He's 6'11, 260, playing his best basketball this season for UK (16 and 8, with 2 blocks per). If you want him, how could we get him? Remember, he has already been through the draft (not picked), so I don't believe he can enter the draft again. I for one would like to try, assuming we don't get a top 3 pick this year. Of course if we get a top 3 pick, considering who is available, you have to go big. That would allow us to focus in on drafting the best PG (in a poor PG class) with the Indiana pick. TheDude
theres not reason NOT to try in my opinion...he would be drafted this year so why not get him via free agency...would be like an extra draft pick..
Premium Member Diesel Posted January 17, 2007 Premium Member Report Share Posted January 17, 2007 I would definitely try to get Morris. I think we've tried. I hope we have the money to entice him to come!
DJ_Money
I'm curious to see what happens with Morris. Of course, he's worth a look. He's a great talent, certainly a 1st rounder this year. With big men always at a premium, will some team see the chance to grab a 21 y/o center and throw an $8 million deal at him? (To compare, Bargnani makes about $4.5 million this year.)
Premium Member Diesel Posted January 17, 2007 Premium Member Report Share Posted January 17, 2007 I would think about a 4 year 18 million dollar deal.

Yeti
Can't we just make him an offer at the end of the Kentucky season?

And that is the most likely outcome. Morris has stated he will not consider leaving the team before 4 years and is very unlikely to listen to offers at all before the end of the UK season. He feels he owes Tubby for going to bat for him with the NCAA when the issue of his eligibility was in the air.

It is definitely possible. An unrestricted FA can make a lot more than a rookie first round pick - which is why they instituted the rookie pay scale in the first place.
