Mock lotto

1. Greg Oden, C, Ohio State. The Blazers need a small forward but can't pass on Oden. Comparison: David Robinson.

2. Kevin Durant, SF, Texas. This team could average 115 points. Comparison: Dirk Nowitzki.

3. Al Horford, PF, Florida. The Hawks need an immediate contributor, and Horford is NBA-ready. Comparison: Zach Randolph.

4. Brandan Wright, PF, North Carolina. He'll add to an interesting young core. Comparison: Chris Bosh.

5. Mike Conley, PG, Ohio State. He's a stretch at 5, but the C's are desperate for a point guard. Comparison: Luke Ridnour.

6. Yi Jianlian, PF, China. Frontcourt depth is a need. Comparison: Rasheed Wallace.

7. Joakim Noah, PF, Florida. He's not a post scorer but is a nice energy guy. Comparison: Tyson Chandler.

8. Corey Brewer, SF, Florida. The Bobs draft another small forward, but this one can defend. Comparison: Josh Howard.

9. Jeff Green, SF, Georgetown. This pick is very likely to be traded. Comparison: Andre Iguodala.

10. Julian Wright, SF, Kansas. He's a good open-floor scorer who would mesh with Kevin Martin. Comparison: Caron Butler.

11. Acie Law, PG, Texas A&M. The Hawks must get a point guard here. Comparison: Sam Cassell.

12. Josh McRoberts, PF, Duke. The Sixers need some size. Comparison: Andrew Bogut.

13. Nick Young, SG, Southern California. Adding a good midrange shooter will mean more assists for Chris Paul. Comparison: Luol Deng.

14. Javaris Crittenton, PG, Georgia Tech. The Clips must react to Shaun Livingston's injury. Comparison: Antonio Daniels.

The trade of the 9th pick is interesting to me. Why would Chicago trade and who would they trade to?

I was thinking possibly to PTL for Zach. Somehow Chicago gives up 9 and filler for Zach?

Or maybe a trade for Amare. Luol and #9?

Great Draft !

We actually plugged our 2 gapping holes !

ZaZa and Hoford would be good work horses at center.

Got to love his atheleticism paired with Smith. Most teams have a stiff at either PF or center, this would create some match up problems in our favor.

1) WRIGHT or Wrong - Is anyone else concerned about Brandan Wright's questionable interest in basketball? Should a team spend a high pick on a guy who gets his head in the game... sometimes? Who becomes aggressive...occasionally? Or is that unfair criticism? Is being a freshman in a BIG system just a bit intimidating, and reason for a young player to defer to others while he learns the system?

2) CONLEY JR. - SO much pressure on Atlanta and the C's to grab a point. And Conley, clearly, plays well under pressure and makes good decisions. But we all know he really doesn't shoot that well. Can you spend a top 5 pick on an incomplete point guard? Atlanta has enough young offensive talent that they might make it work... Conley would have plenty of people to distribute to. But Boston, they need another complete player, and should look at Al Horford (if on the board, or in trade with Atlanta). If not, Joakim Noah for some size, heart, and experience (though not a future super star, clearly) or Spencer Hawes (a promising center with offensive skills: a rare commodity in most drafts) or even Corey Brewer if Pierce is to be traded.

If the Blazers are serious about pairing Oden and Conley...

The Blazers should offer the Hawks Zach Randolph and Jarrett Jack for Speedy Claxton, Lorenzen Wright and their 3rd pick. (deal works for the salary cap, as is shown here

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/trad...teams=22~22~1~1 )

From Portland's respective - Randolph and Jack seems a lot to give up for a 3rd pick, especially when you are prepared to use it on a PG who may not be that much better than Jack anyway. But is there anything more valuable than satisfying the first request of your franchise center? Remember Oden's agent is actually Conley's father. Let's say the Hawks eventually drafted Conley and he turns out to be a decent PG. Do you think it's entirely impossible that the Conleys will convince Oden to join them at the Hawks once Oden's rookie contract has finished? If you run the Blazers, won't you be a little concern about this? Besides, the Blazers are desperate for an image makeover, and Miles (rumors have it that the Blazers are trying to get a restrain order to keep him away from Oden) and Randolph are the last of the 'JailBlazers' leftover. Zach may be a 23/10 guy, but he's also a 23/10 guy who can neither block shots nor pass with a 13m per contract for the next 5 years. When you have Aldridge and Oden playing in the post, it makes sense to give Zach away.

Rotation may look a little like this: Conley, Roy, Outlaw, Aldridge, Oden; with Claxton, Webster and Wright coming off the bench. It certainly doesn't look like a playoff-lock for next year right away, but that has to make the fans drool with its potential. And the most important thing is the roster is 'clean' and the faces of the franchise (Roy, Aldridge and Oden) should be happy.

From Atlanta's respective - the 3rd pick is certainly an attractive asset to have in such a loaded draft - but not when you are the Hawks. It's because the Hawks have tremendous pressure to select a PG with it's pick, and to get Conley at 3rd is really too high too soon. What's the point of having the 3rd pick when you are forced to pick someone who probably deserves to be drafted a good 5- 7 slot later?

The only assets the Hawks can claim they have is a supply of talented swingman. Pachulia is their only breathing big man, but he's not your traditional back-to-the-basket player either. So besides the PG being a need, they actually need a big man who can rebound and score in the post just as much. Rolling the dice on this deal will allow them to address both needs, and they can use their 11th pick to provide insurance for either position (Acie Law or Hawes will both be solid picks there). You are looking at a starting five featuring Jack, Joe Johnson, Josh Smith, Randolph and Pachulia; with Law/Hawes, Lue, Childress and Marvin Williams coming off the bench. Now you tell me how this isn't a playoff team in the East. (Did I mention that they also get rid of Claxton's horrible contract at the same time?) Wouldn't you accept this trade in about 3 seconds if you were Billy Knight? (Well maybe it makes too much sense for him, just like drafting Chris Paul or Deron Williams...)

Approval Rating: 75% (out of 4 reviews).

Didn't we take a player last year at PF who was NBA ready?

I like Horford. I really like Horford. But just like any other forward he requires a trade for a center. This guy is NOT, I repeat NOT, a college or NBA center.

Because, I believe the other power forwards available at 3, Yi and Wright, are more talented and have more upside, I go with either of them still.
