Moderators AHF Posted June 24, 2010 Author Moderators Report Share Posted June 24, 2010 (edited) FINAL MOCKS ESPN's Chad Ford http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draft2010/insider/columns/story?columnist=ford_chad&page=MockDraft-100624 Atlanta Hassan Whiteside Position: C Height: 7-0 Weight: 227 Age: 20 School: Marshall (Whiteside's previous position: No. 24 to Atlanta) Analysis: The Hawks could go in a lot of directions here. They might end up having to replace free agent Joe Johnson. But at this point in the draft, Whiteside's upside might be too much to pass up. Whiteside is the best shot-blocker in the draft and, when he's playing well, reminds some of a young Marcus Camby. He's immature and needs a lot of work, but at No. 24, no player left on the board has more upside. CNNSI's Ian Thomson http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/ian_thomsen/06/23/mock.draft/index.html 24 SG Jordan Crawford Xavier Soph. 6-4 195 He carried Xavier as a slasher and streaky shooter, and he'll fit in with the athletic Hawks as they give more minutes to up-tempo guard Jeff Teague. His rookie-year role will depend on whether Joe Johnson returns. CBS Sportline http://www.cbssports.com/nba/draft/mock?tag=coverlist;coverlist_footer Brian Levenson 24. Atlanta Hawks Lazar Hayward, SF, Marquette: This pick may be impacted by what happens with Joe Johnson in the offseason, but ultimately I think they need to add a rugged 3/4 to bring off the bench if Marvin Williams or Josh Smith struggle. Hayward has proven throughout his time at Marquette that he is willing to do whatever is necessary to help his team win. He doesn't mind what position he plays, he sets solid picks, he works hard on the defensive end and he can spread the floor with his outside shooting. I think he would be a perfect fit alongside the athletic wings and big men that the Hawks have. He is undersized, but he gives them versatility due to his willingness to play with the big boys or come outside and play on the perimeter. I think he is a perfect fit and he would push Williams and Smith to continue to improve. He may never be a superstar, but he is the type of role player that will carve a niche for himself at the next level. Dave Del Grande 24. Atlanta Hawks Dominique Jones, SG, South Florida: The Hawks aren't crazy about Mike Bibby, and they could be losing Joe Johnson to free agency. Jones is in the Bradley-Bledsoe mold: a guy who solves two problems at once. Jonathan Feigen 24. Atlanta Hawks Tibor Pleiss, C, Kohn 99ers: Gani Lawal has been moving up and would be an interesting choice for the hometown Hawks, but Atlanta is still more likely to choose a player it can keep overseas, with, as a bonus, the chance of eventually getting the interior size the Hawks have lacked. Damion James could be considered here as well. Draft Express From DraftExpress.com http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-mock-draft/2010/#ixzz0rmspvM5u'>http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-mock-draft/2010/#ixzz0rmspvM5u http://www.draftexpress.com 24 Hawks Dominique Jones SG 21 years old; 6'4"; 205 lbs. South Florida, Junior One of the biggest risers of this year’s draft season, Dominique Jones’ explosive scoring ability ranks him highly in certain metrics, though he doesn’t excel in any one given situation. The most impressive aspect of Jones’ resume is his 46.5% scoring ratio, indicating that he scores at least a point on nearly half of his extremely high 21.6 possessions per-game. The level of efficiency ranks first in this group, and his .976 PPP and 11% shots fouled are well above average as well. Jones is both a high usage and high efficiency scorer, which is a rare combination to find. With nearly 20% of his touches coming in transition, Jones gets to the line better than any of his peers on the break, drawing a trip to the line on 21.6% of those possessions. The USF product doesn’t excel in any one particular offensive situation, though he is a solid isolation player. Much of his success comes from his ability to finish at the rim. His 1.22 points per-possession as a finisher place him third amongst this group. That quality should lend itself well to the NBA. The reason Jones doesn’t excel in any one particular area is because he isn’t a terribly efficient jump shooter. An average shooter when left open off the catch (39%), and a below average pull up shooter (32.4%), Jones’s dynamic ability to get to the rim, create contact, and finish make him an intriguing guard with potential at both positions, but to become a more serviceably player in a smaller role, he’ll need to hone his long-range jumper. If he does, watch out. nbadraft.net http://www.nbadraft.net/2010mock_draft 24 Atlanta Craig Brackins 6-10 229 PF Iowa St. NBA Comparison: Jason Thompson/LaMarcus Aldridge Strengths: A long, versatile and athletic big man, Brackins is an excellent offensive player who can score in a variety of ways ... He has very solid footwork in the post, which allows him to create separation, and with his length and feel for the game he finds ways to knock down shots in different fashion ... He looks comfortable facing up and pulling up from 12-15 feet ... Uses his size well to shoot over opponents and can even put the ball on the floor to some degree of sucess ... Uses the hopstep and spin move well to create open looks for himself ... He has shown the ability to shoot from the outside with college 3 point range ... He pulled in 8.5 rebounds this season, and uses his leaping abilities to help him excel in this department ... Runs the floor well for a big forward ... Weaknesses: After a disappointing season in which he failed to live up to expectations, Brackins often gets labeled as being soft ... Too often he settles for fadeaway shots instead of using his superior size, strength and talent to overpower opponents in one on one situations ... Another weakness for Brackins is consistency. He's a very talented offensive player, but the question remains whether he can show off that talent every time he takes the floor ... His jump shot is on and off, and his shot selection at times can be in question ... Tends to disappear throughout stretches of games ... His offensive rebounding rate is alarmingly low... Shot 42 percent from the field, extremely low for a 6'10 player with as much talent as he has ... His lack of aggresiveness and willingness to bang inside are partly to blame ... Defensively, again he is not the strongest in regards to forwards his size, and he lacks the lateral quickness to defend off the dribble against more athletic forwards ... At 22 years old, his upside will be looked at as limited ... Overall: A potential lottery to mid-first round pick in the 2009 draft, Craig Brackins returned to school for his junior year, and saw his stock plummet dramatically similar to Willie Warren ... He was the primary offensive threat on a weak Iowa State team, so in a year where he was the opposition's focus, his numbers dipped across the board. Iowa State's lack of quality guards is partially to blame for his struggles ... Offensively he is extremely talented, and can score in a variety of ways ... FoxSports http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/2010-NBA-mock-draft-062210 24. Atlanta Hawks: Jordan Crawford, 6-4½, 200, SG, Soph., Xavier With the status of Joe Johnson up in the air, the Hawks may protect themselves and take Crawford -- a guy with an old-school game who can score in a variety of ways. Bleacher Report http://bleacherreport.com/articles/409950-2010-nba-mock-draft-udoh-finally-cracks-the-lottery-in-final-mock 24) Atlanta- Avery Bradley, SG, Texas Joe Johnson is done in Atlanta, so they need to find a "shooting" guard to replace him. Bradley is a tweener, too big to play the point, and too small to guard a lot of shooting guards. But he can shoot the ball with the best of them. He is an excellent catch and shooter, which will be perfect in replacing Joe Johnson's loss in that category. I think of him as a bigger version of Daniel Gibson. Atlanta. Jordan Crawford, SG, Xavier. The Hawks are looking for capable wing players who can play immediately. They’ll be tempted by a guy like Whiteside, but Crawford is a favorite here. Cholet Basket (France) Seraphin is a big body post player with good agility (relatively speaking), giving the Hawks something they don't already have. Atlanta Hawks – Quincy Pondexter, SF, Washington: The 6-7 Pondexter bumped his scoring average from 12.1 to 19.3 points during his senior year. Ouch ! This guy scares me more then any other 1st round prospect. I have never seen a guy with a 9'3'' reach miss so many dunks and layups at the college level as Orton did. Check that.......a bum named Dryden did it for UGA 10 years ago........but he played in Europe......not the NBA. spotatl
I do not want Orton. If a coach can't find a way to use a guy with his size and athletic ability in the college game then I'm not going to get my hopes up that he suddenly is going to blossom when facing NBA players. Moderators AHF Posted June 24, 2010 Author Moderators Report Share Posted June 24, 2010 I do not want Orton. If a coach can't find a way to use a guy with his size and athletic ability in the college game then I'm not going to get my hopes up that he suddenly is going to blossom when facing NBA players. Again, he was playing behind the best big man in the nation in Demarcus Cousins and Patrick Patterson. I'm not sure why people view his limited role as a product of his inability to play. Per 40, he averaged 10 rebounds and over 4 blocks as a freshman recovering from a HS knee injury. He was used and played his role but if you stuck Dikembe Mutombo on a team with Cousins and Patterson he wouldn't have gotten a lot of time as a freshman either. Marvin Williams was playing behind a forward with no hopes of ever playing in the NBA. Orton was backing up a first team All-American who will be drafted in the top 5 picks. I do understand people not wanting him because he is so raw or because of an injury concern, but I don't get the concern over his role or athleticism. Moderators AHF Posted June 24, 2010 Author Moderators Report Share Posted June 24, 2010 Have you ever seen a player miss as many bunnies as Orton ? I am not nearly as concerned as you about his inside game. It is very raw but I don't think he will be getting blocked all the time or be too uncoordinated to shoot around the basket. Premium Member Sothron Posted June 25, 2010 Premium Member Report Share Posted June 25, 2010 I wouldn't be surprised if we sold the pick to a team like Cleveland for three million so the Spirit could pay for Drew's entire contract length. Sund really worked it to try to better then team and keep the owners happy with some cash. Sund made lemonade from lemons last nights given what the ASG probably gave him to work with.
