Ideal scenario for Hawks!

Hawks find a way to get Phil Jackson here. Followed by convincing Chris Paul to sign. Convince Josh to stay for a little under the max and convince Dwight Howard to top it off. With Horford, L.Williams, Teague, Korver and the rookies still on the squad and some draft picks and free agents to add. Maybe/Hopefully even keeping Ivan Johnson.

A team that features atleast 8 Great to Good Players with 5 starting and 3 coming off the bench. That's before the draft and so far Danny Ferry is proving to have a good draft track record with his current 1st and second round picks. He has also created a masterful salary cap move that gives us multiple options!!

Aspiring Great Players want to play for Great Coaches like Phil. Great Centers want to play with Great Point Guards and other complimentary pieces. Best Friends love winning together!!(Don't forget Lou Williams and his Atlanta ties to Dwight he and Smith playing together.) Unfortunately so does Anthony Morrow.

Picture an Atlanta Market that features Chris Paul jersey's and Dwight Howard jersey's. A team that can boast they had Great Coaches like Lenny Wilken's and now Phil Jackson (just to mention two). What will Mike Woodson, Larry Drew (and jokingly but seriously Terry Scotts) legacy become after all said and done?

This is Ferry's big chance to be a relevant person in Atlanta Sports History for his five remaining years and he would be highly commended for such a short turn around with not ever missing a playoff beat!!

Ok and I'm going to win the lottery, own all my favorite sports teams, while becoming a billionaire, and have a supermodel wife

I would call up Phil and ask him is there a possibility that you would coach the Hawks if WE can bring CP3 and Dwight Howard to the Atlanta Hawks. If WE can, then I will let you have final say in shaping up the remaining of the roster.

That's a dream though, but that's how I would go about it.

There is no way to resign Josh Smith and sign Howard and Paul.

You missed the salary cap thread the last couple of days.

The Hawks would have to renouce their rights on Josh Smith just to sign Howard and Paul. If we renounce everyone there is only about $34 mill of cap room left to split between Paul and Howard with each guy getting about $17 mill in year #1.

Why on earth would anyone want to pair Smith with Howard over Horford with Howard? It makes zero sense. A pairing of Smith/Howard would end up with Smith taking a ton of long 2's and missing badly on 70% of those shots. Horford shoots the midrange shot at 42% while Smith shoots it at 30%. Horford would also fit with Paul better as he can pick and pop off the pick and roll or roll hard to the basket for an oop or solid post position. Horford is easily the better companion for Paul/Howard and he will cost less. He also has a better attitude and doesn't have to be "the guy".

So long Smith, it was nice knowing ya.

A sign and trade for maybe Jeff/Horford, +filler and Dwight could work as well !!

Point is Ferry got options!!

We would also have to renounce our rights to Teague to sign CP3 and Dwight, FWIW.

...or (realistically)...the Hawks draft some guys (one of which stays in Europe)...pick up whatever is available on the VetMin market...and go into the season well under the salary cap.

Ferry explains on 790theZone that the reason for this is the potential for injuries during the season and that they want the team to be nimble enough ($$-wise) that we can sign quality replacements in case that happens.

(meaning - we go on the cheap so the ASG guys don't go bankrupt)
