Blunt91
I was reading the article on Hawks.com about Smoove being in the contest. THe list of participants reads Josh Smith, JR Smith, Chris Anderson and Amare Stoudamire. To me they could have thrown in 1 or 2more players. Stoudamire hasn't did much in the past contest so I think it will come down to Smoove JR and Chris. Lebron James could have put his name in the pot to add some buzz to the event. Lebron being in the event would have given it the same buzz that Vince did when he was participating in it. It's up to Smoove to help people get excited about this event again the way they use to 3 or 4years ago.
Buzzard
Unless Smoove just misses his dunks, I would bet that he is a lock to win it. Hands down.
TheDude
i think it's cowardice of popular players not to play in the slame dunk contest. they say they don't want to be known as just dunkers...makes no sense, how would that change people's opinion of kobe, lebron, or vince...jordan and dominique didn't care. Buzzard
Quote: i think it's cowardice of popular players not to play in the slame dunk contest. I think you are exactly right. These stars are afraid of losing and being shown up. Jordan and Dominique had no fear and if they did, fear of losing drove them to be more creative. Spud won and I did not see the two great ones backing down at all, they just tried harder and then congratulated the little big man for his accomplishment! Final_quest
Watching the Nique, Jordan final in 88 was one of the highlights of my childhood. I'm still bitter. Jordan did the same dunk twice and got a 50 both times. It was a great dunk, but you have to lose points for lack of creativity.
Lascar78
Don't count JR Smith out. While Smoove is an AWESOME game dunker, I haven't seen him do anything technical. I have seen JR Smith do some nice stuff. Also Smoove can't comfortably palm a basketball. Also, JR is shorter and shorter players tend to look better in dunk contests. I think the finals will be the smiths. Anyone can win.
DominiqueWilkins
I don't see Amare going anywhere in the contest. I see JR Smith having a slight advantage due to his size, and if he is able to complete his dunks he might win. Chris Andersen can hands down take this contest. Josh Smith can hands down take this contest. In the final it will be Josh Smith v.s. Chris Andersen.
Nicholasp27
there will most likely be 5 they said they will wait until Friday to announce the final list if it means they have a chance at lebron saying yes...so until he says yes or no, the final list won't be announced... shock
apparently lebron was upset last year with the NBA for getting snubbed as an Eastern Conf. reserve. I think he is still making them pay for it by waiting to the last minute to decide this year.....and dont look for him to accept the invitation
Premium Member Wretch Posted February 17, 2005 Premium Member Report Share Posted February 17, 2005 Y'know, it's probably not even the players that are making the decisions. It's probably their agents and image consultants... Don't want to lose any of that credibility...

Employee8
Quote: In the final it will be Josh Smith v.s. Chris Andersen. IF that happens, that would be one hell of a battle. I love smoove but I also like THE BIRDMAN!!!
Lascar78
last year I remember every single dunk was available online somewhere. I forget where.
Lascar78
I think you are underestimating JR Smith. Have you seen him dunk (not in a game) before?
yee
I really hope that's not the final list for the competition... Amare, Smith, and Anderson, albeit good in-game dunkers, are mostly power-dunkers with good athleticism rather than finesse / creativity. JR has the best competition dunks... I see him winning it hands down if this is the final list of competitors.
