The History of the Atlanta Hawks have been filled with Pivotal times.

For instance:

Trading Bill Russell to Boston?

Drafting David Thompson and watching him go to the ABA.

Drafting Julius Erving and watching him go to the ABA.

Trading John Drew, Freeman Williams, and 1 MIllion dollars for Dominique! BEST Move in the History of the franchise.

Signing Koncak. (6 Yr 13 Million) - Made him a higher paid player than Bird, Magic, Jordan, Ewing, and Nique. Worst FA move in the history of the NBA.

Trading For Mookie Blaylock. Probably top 5 of FA Moves in the history of the franchise.

Trading Nique for Danny Manning. Probably the 3rd worst move in franchise history.

Trading Willis for Long and Smith. Probably in the top 5 of FA moves for the history of the franchise.

Trading Long and Augmon to make room for Deke. Good piece of GMing there also taking Detroit out of the running for Deke.

Signing Deke. Second best move in our history.

Hiring Lenny Wilkens.

Trading #3/Wright/Knight for Shareef/#27. Babcock revealed that he would take Battier so it turned out not so bad.

Trading Deke for Kukoc, Nazr, and Theo. Not a good move at all.

Trading Shareef, Theo, and DD for Sheed.

Trading Sheed for #16.

Drafting Smoove. Potentially could be the best draft choice in the History of the Hawks.

Passing on Paul. Alone could be the singly worse move in the History of the Hawks.

Signing JJ. The third best pick up in franchise History.

Passing on Roy. One of the worst draft choices in franchise history.

Drafting Horford. Probably one of the top 5 draft picks in Hawks history. Maybe even the best.

Well, this year, with limited options, we have another chance to make significant franchise changing moves. Unfortunately, we're no longer working in the dark without an audience. This time, everybody is watching.

Drafting Jason Terry was a good draft move. I'd say that would compete with Augmon's pick. Also, Speedy contract ranks right up there with one of our worst moves.

It's pretty bold to say, for a franchise that's been around 50+ years, that 3 of the top 5 draft choices are currently on the team.

We've also been picking higher up than we used to.

The irony is that you can come up with a better list of guys drafted by the Hawks who never played for them.

Bill Russell

Arvydas Sabonis

Pau Gasol

David Thompson

(I don't think we drafted Dr. J).

Im not sure we really traded for Deke. However getting Mookie was much more signifigant since our record improved the greatest after getting him. I would make this list Nique, Mook, Smitty, JJ, Deke.

Top 5 Draft Picks.

1. Smoove.

2. Horf.

3. Willis

4. Chillz

5. Augmon

There is no way Smoove or Horford can be in front of Willis. Willis was an all star. Now hopefully by careers end they both will be ahead of Willis. Only time will tell.

How about Reggie Theous? Also didnt we trade Spud Webb for Travis Mays who played 2 games for us?

Worst 5 Draft pick pickovers.

1. Marvin over Paul.

2. Koncak over Malone.

3. Adam Keefe.

4. Rumeal Robinson

5. Doug Edwards

Marvin is not a bust. Those other guys are bust. Marvin is already better than Konkak. Malone is waaayyyyyyyyyyy more of a miss than Paul at this point. Now 15 years from now maybe opinions will differ.

Koncak may not have played up to his contract but he was more than servicable. He rebounded, defended and passed well.

Lorenzen Wright

Quote:

Acquired by Atlanta from the L.A. Clippers, in exchange for two future first-round draft picks, on August 8, 1999

That trade was aweful. The first pick was Quentin Richardson and the second pick was not protected and ended up being Chris Wilcox - and could have been Amare Stoudamire.

Two first rounders for Blo Wright. That is just horrible.

Then again first round picks in Babcocks hands didn't have much value anyway.

How did the Steve Smith / Jr Rider trade not make the worst list?
confused.gif

That pretty must started the 9 year and counting rebuilding phase.

These were my worst GM moves...

Worst 5 GM Moves.

1. Trading Nique for Danny Manning.

2. Signing Koncak to big Contract.

3. Trading Deke for Nazr, Kukoc, and Theo.

4. Signing Ken Norman.

5. Signing Chris Crawford.

Point 1. Trading Nique for Danny Manning Killed this franchises chance to win a championship that year. We had a shot.

Point 2. The Koncak Contract is probably the biggest hummy in all of sports. The reason why BBall players make so much now is because of the Koncak contract. We paid Koncak more than Bird, Magic, Jordan, Nique and Ewing at the time. After which, Ewing wrote in a clause that he had the right to renogiate his contract any time he was not a top 3 paid Center. The Nique Negotiations were soured. It was a mess.

Point 3. Deke immediately took Philly to the NBA Championship. Theo never played and Nazr was good but Toni was oft injured and as soon as he got injury free and playing well, we traded him for Big Dog.

Point 4. Ken Norman didn't do Jack as a Hawk. Sucked up Money for years.

Point 5. See Point 4 and exchange Norman for Crawford.

I think that's there's some wiggle room for Rider, but the thing is:

1. Rider didn't eat up cap space for a long time.

2. Jim Jackson did play well.

But I have to agree that it was stupid GMing to bring in JT with an inexperienced Backcourt mate.
