willthepureshooter
You must have read my mind because I was thinking the same thing. I think he can still give big numbers on offense even though he's aged and has been slowed by knee injuries. I tell you what, another guy that I was thinking about us signing is his cousin T-MAC. Imagine that reunion in a Hawks uniform!! I would love to see that happen on one year rentals. Starters: Teague Joe Vince Smoove Horford Bench: Hinrich T-MAC Marvin Benson ZaZa Now thats a sick rotation right there! Whew!!
JTB
To be completely honest I would love for this to happen and also I really do have a gut feeling that the ASG will go after Carter. I mean why should we think less they did go after shaq though we didnt get him but it wont suprise me if they offer VC a contract to play with this team. man that would be a major move for this hawks team and jamal will not be missed as long as VC can stay healthy. the plus side is getting a injury prone VC right now is that the season is shorten cause of the lockout and we know VC will bring it as a vet because he wants a ring! ASG seriously needs to think about signing a big time vet like VC to a 2 year contract to play along JJ, Smith, Horford, Teague if they dont want to break this core. good post man. Premium Member BrazilianHawk Posted December 5, 2011 Premium Member Report Share Posted December 5, 2011 (edited) Hmmm. Vince. Yeah, why not, so long as he agrees to take a two-year, 4M per contract. And while we're at it, we could try and sign T-Mac and Iverson as well (one year, vet minimums). While I don't believe the ASG would use the amnesty clause right now (because of Joe's 5th and 6th years), we could try and trade Kirk expiring to a team like, say, the Clippers, for a Ryan Gomes-type. They'll have to offer Gordon a new contract, so I believe this trade would help them in the Dwight sweepstakes by trading a 4M non-expiring contract for an 8M expiring. Maybe they would take the Captain off of our hands and free us some cap space. Stop laughing, I'm serious! Kirk is down anyway. Those guys could immediately help our 6-guy team. Or maybe we could try to sign James Jones (3-pt especialist from the Heat), who got the minimum last year, instead of T-Mac. We could maybe offer him 2M, and try to take him away from Miami. Teague / Iverson / Pepsi JJ / T-Mac Jones Vince / Marvin / Gomes Smoove / Horford / re-signed Magnum / Kito Horford / Zaza / re-signed Twin Kito and Pepsi assigned to the D-League Edited December 5, 2011 by BrazilianHawk
Moderators macdaddy Posted December 5, 2011 Moderators Report Share Posted December 5, 2011 Vince, TMac, AI. These guys are done and i think it'd be just wasted money. How many star players can you name who were able to become successful role players later in their careers? Grant HIll did it but at a much younger age than these guys. Prince still has game on both sides of the floor. I'd much rather spend money on him. We'd get a starting SF who can play D and shoot plus it would move Marv to the bench and give us some depth. Moderators AHF Posted December 5, 2011 Moderators Report Share Posted December 5, 2011 This would almost surely push us into the luxury tax unless he took a cheap deal like lethalweapon3 is talking about (which he won't).
IheartVolt
If we go into Luxury tax make it worth it.. Who is to say that the guy is a upgrade over Marvin at this point? Edited December 5, 2011 by savwboy
Premium Member BrazilianHawk Posted December 5, 2011 Premium Member Report Share Posted December 5, 2011 (edited) :/ I know stats aren't all, but he's got some good 2010-11 numbers. Of course he's not the same guy from 5 years ago, but I would def pay the man 3-4M per, or maybe even the full MLE (two-year contract). Let's be realistic, we won't get a really nice piece in free agency this season unless something major happens. Carter: 73 games, 63 starts, 28 MPG, 14.0 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 2.0 apg, 0.9 spg, 1.2 turnovers while shooting .437 from the field (.361 from three) Now let's take a look at Jamal: 76 games, no starts, 30 MPG, 14.2 ppg, 1.7 rpg, 3.2 apg, 0.8 spg, 1.9 turnovers while shooting .421 from the field (.341 from three) What's not to like? He's durable, he's somewhat efficient and he's a former star, he could be our 6th man and a leader off the bench. That's roughly the same production we got from Jamal (Carter's actually a bit more afficient) with less turnovers. Oh, and he is a Hawk-killer as well, we better have him on our side. Moderators lethalweapon3 Posted December 5, 2011 Moderators Report Share Posted December 5, 2011 Just to keep that old-skool vibe going... Jerry Stackhouse is working out today (with Pape Sy), as per @ajchawks. ~lw3

I am not saying Vince in is bad but why roll the dice on him at this stage? Well Jamal is 31 (three years younger), and if the stats are correct, Vince is the most durable of the two. We have rolled the dice on Jamal and it paid off. I'm not advocating Vince over any current starter, but I believe he would be a nice addition to our bench at a fraction of Jamal's cost. Honestly I am happier w/ Kirk coming off the bench as 6th man at this point..Now if we could find someone to regulate Marvin as 6th man I would be tickled pink! Maybe you are right..How old is Vince now like 34?? Jamal was great when he was having a great night , but the guy was schitzo shooting the ball..On one night could not miss and could not hit jack the next..That got old to me , not to mention his bad defense

No D, too much trying to be the man, too many dumb turnovers. But I gotta concede the man could score. I think hopefully Vince could be a somewhat controlled Jamal. I dunno. Can Vince's D (or lack thereof) be even worse than Jamal's? It was Drew's job to bench the guy on those horrible nights... Now that he's got a full season under his belt, maybe he's gonna grow some balls and do what has to be done.

ATownStomp
i was also thinking vc would be a nice fit here. especially if we lose jamal, carter has always been good scoring late in games. he also can give us more production at that position because we all know marvin hasn't given it every night. he's a seasoned vet(and he has always killed us too i beleive) so it would be nice to have him in atlanta.wouldn't overpay for him though!
