Atlanta Acquires Rights to Sofoklis Schortsanitis

ATLANTA, July 30, 2012 - The Atlanta Hawks today completed a sign-and-trade transaction that sends Willie Green to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for the rights to Sofoklis Schortsanitis, it was announced by President of Basketball Operations/GM Danny Ferry. The move also creates a trade exception for the Hawks.

Schortsanitis was selected by the Clippers in the second round (34^th overall) of the 2003 NBA Draft.

Green played in 53 regular season contests for Atlanta in 2011-12, averaging 7.6 ppg and 1.5 rpg in 17.4 mpg (.471 FG%, .442 3FG%, .857 FT%).

We'd get a trade exception worth whatever Green signed for. This could be very valuable for a team like us who are over the cap and have already used the MLE. The trade exception that we got from the JJ trade allowed us to get Korver so we might be able to get a semi-decent player with this TPE.

He is a Center, he is 27 now, he was called Baby Shaq when he was drafted, an inside force on the paint, difficult to stop, have great really great probles with his weight that limits his minutes at the game.

We got something for Willie Green. 6'10" w/ shoes on and 375 lbs. BIG damn boy at 27. Maybe they feel Ivan won't stay or something. At the least, it gives a lane clogger. Our front court is awfully light and Sofo gives us that much needed size. Very happy for Willie, I was about to ask why he hasn't gotten a lot of interest yet. Clippers must want to stack the deck with shooters, as he'll come off the bench behind Mr. Big Shot and Jamal.~lw3

No idea but I have to imagine its for 2.5 or likely less. Terms have not been released yet.

He was first team all-euro last year but doesn't seem to be the right size for his skillset for the NBAPerhaps DF plans to get our SF with the exception

I can see it now. "Today the Atlanta Hawks traded the rights to Schorty in exchange for Dwight Howard. Orlando management was ecstatic about the move, and could barely contain their enthusiasm. Schorty said his first line of business to be taken care of was a trip to McDonalds, followed by a trip to Disney World. Hawks management offered no comments."
