Korver Speaks...

Yeah guys something is up Danny sleeves or there's something that's so close to being done he can taste it!I don't mind the Korver for 6m....that's not a concern to me, but I'm more curious to know why he would sign to a team like the hawks who aren't contenders yet?Over the off season Korver has been in talks with the spurs and nets before he signed the deal with ferry! Korvers main thing is to play for a contender as he ages. He's said that numerous times! I don't want to jump to conclusions but something HAS to be up! Perhaps like others have mentioned maybe we are targeting Bynum and not just horward....I don't know.

I'm not sure although of course we want something BIG to happen. Korver re-signing could be alot about the city as he likes Atlanta. Edited by Jody23

What it tells me...

When you say you believe in something or someone, it means you're putting faith into it. By way of example, you don't say, "I believe in what they're doing in Miami." You don't say that because you don't really need faith to get behind that team. They're loaded. You just jump on the bandwagon.

By the same token, if Korver says he believes in Ferry's vision...what he's saying is that he has faith in Ferry's plan. You don't need much convincing when you have a Horford/Howard front court. Even without CP3, that's still pretty dominant. So is he saying he has faith that Ferry will sign the big catch? Well, you can have all the faith in such a thing that you want. I think you don't commit to that contract until you know for sure. Unless it is...just about the money...that doesn't make sense though.

It is very interesting that Korver is coming back. He's the kind of specialty player that contenders hunt down - and he was going to get some calls this summer for sure. I don't see him turning that down to play here when there isn't a hint of championship quality about this franchise. I want to believe that this signing means something.

Otherwise, it means nothing changes for the next 4 years.

That's kinda my point. He had San Antonio on the line. He had Brooklyn on the line. Both of those team are definitely championship quality and places where he would have the same role as here. BUT he chose us... and it wasn't because the money was that great. When he says I believe in what Ferry is doing, I take that to mean that Ferry has laid out a plan. Remember, LD is gone. Korver hasn't played for Bud. In order for him to catch Ferry's "Vision" Ferry had to share it with him. That vision seems to be more than tanking to get some rookie superstar who may never come. I think Ferry is aiming for the fences and I believe there's a good read on either: Howard, Jefferson, or Bynum.

Also, how close were Korver and Jefferson?

Out of that big man trio...only 1.5 of them intrigues me. Bynum is a waste of time. I mean, I guess if he's healthy then he's a good gamble...but it's still a gamble. I guess that doesn't matter when you have playoffs on the brain. I'm not going to complain about Jefferson. I actually like him. A lot actually and I've done some serious arguing in a case FOR signing him. And of course, Howard goes without saying...

Here's my issue though...

If we fail to reach the ECF's, again, then how do we improve the team going forward? Incremental change isn't going to get it. Lateral moves aren't going to cut it. It's going to take a significant amount of money to build a competitive team (evidenced by how much we are paying Korver), so that cap space isn't going to stick around either. It will be more of the same and it will be a waste of time.

Call it tanking or sucking, and dismiss it...but this is why you rebuild. You're not going to get a game changer with lateral moves and incremental change. You guys will see though.

I agree.

Free Agency, trading for a franchise player, or drafting one, those are the ways to improve your team to a legit contender and destination for other free agents to come.

If we strike out in free agency for that franchise changing player (only Dwight this season), and can't trade for one, how do we get one? New coach, still a new GM (since really he hasn't put his vision on the team yet), why not a new team built around what they want to do?

Glad we resigned our 3 point specialist. Happy to know he thinks

things are going to move in the right direction for our beloved Hawks.

Could it be that this vision contains none of the players mentioned here?

Some posters say, we've gotta have _________ or we're doomed for the

basement in the NBA. Not hardly. All those "experts" said last season that

Hawks would be a lottery shoo in. Yet, it didn't happen.

Josh is running around with all those maximum $$$ offers to choose from,

isn't he? Where will he end up? Or, is he patiently waiting for that sign and

trade that will pay him more and longer?

If we do a sign and trade, who or what will we get? Maybe a couple of unprotected

draft picks and a pack of corn dogs?

No matter what happens, we all know some will like the deal / deals and some will

not - - in fact, they will hate them. Don't believe it? Check out the signing of Korver

and the draft picks this season (and last).

Braves and Dream are both in 1st place and some believe the Falcons are going to

be great this upcoming season. We need to believe in the Hawks and their plans,

what ever they are. We don't know. We're not supposed to know. I'll bet they're good!
