Why can't Kyle Korver elevate his level of play?

With everybody dogging Teague and getting down on Lou, the guy who is escaping any type of criticism, is Kyle Korver. But the fact is that since Horford went down, he's probably been the player most affected by his absence in the lineup.

My thing is this. Ferry gave Kyle a 4 year - 24 million dollar deal to be the sniper on the team. Some fans thought Ferry grossly overpaid for Kyle's services. As long as the lineup stayed healthy, Kyle was great in his role. But now that people are starting to get hurt, Kyle has shown an inability to raise his game to the next level.

I like the streak, because it's a great feat. But on the flip side, I could give a damn about that streak if it means that Korver is now going to start being a JR Smith like shooter from 3 point range. And that is made even worse because Korver can't create his shot from 3, like JR can ( even if JR takes horrific shots ).

Korver's numbers before and after the Horford injury are pretty dramatic.

BH ( Before Horford got hurt ):

13.1 ppg

4.0 rebs

2.6 asst

51.6% FG

50.7% 3FG

AH ( After Horford got hurt ):

9.7 ppg

4.6 rebs

3.8 asst

39.1% FG

34.8% 3FG

Honestly, you would think that with a main offensive cog out of the lineup, that the games of other people would start to step up. But the only guys showing any type of uptick in Horford's absence, are Millsap, Mike Scott, and Pero Antić. Korver has dropped off dramatically.

Kyle, now is not the time to shrink. And the streak may start to get old, if all you're doing is making 3 - 9 FG, while going 2 - 8 from 3 point range. That does not help this team.

If a guy like Mirza Teletovic can go for 37 points, and Chandler Parsons can have huge games, surely we can ask you for an occasional 20 point game here and here, right?

You're the 6 Million Dollar Man. Use some of that bionic strength and start stepping up.

I was one of the people that believed korver got to big and too long of a contract.

Like others said kyle is a extremely limited player. Most of his career he was a bench player and was a 5th option on offense at best. Now he is being forced into being a 3rd option on offense which he isnt capable of being.

People dog teague cause he is capable of doing much more. People on here expect him to play at a all star caliber level. (not me I dont think hes more than a solid starting point guard).

Because he can't dribble. He is a 3 point specialist that is the best at his job.

Wrong. Ray Allen is the best by far. Don't get me wrong I like Kyle and I wear his shirt in old man league, but he cat touch Ray Allen who can handle the ball and defend some.Time to step up Kyle

Horford is far from a cog. He creates majority of our offensive spacing with his movement, shooting, and screens.

Other people have gotten wide open shots and have improved their games with Horford gone. Why can't Kyle?

The others are correct when they list his limited capabilities. If that's the case, you really have to ask why we are paying him 6.7 million this year, and 24 million over the life of the contract?

But people want to praise Ferry as a great GM?

I think Korver will elevate his game when....wait for it......Teague elevate his game. Last I remember it was the job of the PG to make those around him better and not the job of a 3pt specialist.

Chris Paul goes down on January 3rd. JJ Redick, who was hurt himself, comes back on January 10th

The current PG for the Clips is Darren Collison, a good PG just below Teague's level. Here are JJ's numbers since he came back

17.9 ppg

46% FG

39% 3FG

Most important, he's taking 13 shots a game.

JJ's salary this year: 6.3 million . . . . 400K less than Korver.

So please save me the PG excuse. People said that the Hawks paid so much for Korver, because the going rate for "shooters" was set by JJ Redick. Well . . . JJ has elevated his game when the superstar PG went down. Is asking Korver to do at least 50% of what JJ is doing these days, an unrealistic thing?

That's like asking Bruce Bowen to step up in the absence of Tim Duncan. Teague is supposed to be the engine in our well oiled machine (so says the billboard on Windy Hill and I75).

No ma'am. It's like asking JJ Redick to step up in the absence of Chris Paul . . . or Chris Copeland ( last year with the Knicks ) to step up when Melo was out . . or Mike Dunleavy to step up in the absence of Derrick Rose.

Korver is averaging more minutes per game than any player on the team. Horford going down should not have that dramatic of an effect on his game. He's played with much worse players and much worse lineups in the past.

I'm not asking him to shoot above 50% from the field and from 3 point range, like he was doing before Horford got hurt. I'm just asking him to do more than what he's doing right now.

If he can't do it, why in the world did we pay him 6 mill a year . . and for 4 years?

I think you need to play closer attention to how team are guarding Korver - even last night Bob pointed out how Pop must have told whoever was guarding Korver "don't worry about what else is happening on the court stick with him.

Korver's shot attempts has dropped: Like he has said, like I have said, like everybody knows he is DEPENDANT on others getting him the ball once he can get open.

You point to Chris Paul going down, but Collison has stepped in and played decent, plus they still have the rest of their ancilliary pieces. If Teague was playing as decent as Collison I could see your argument, he is not. Kyle's shot attempt has gone down in January and I'll say it again - someone has to get him those shots, he is having a more difficult time getting open because of 1) No Al and 2)teams are trying to stop the streak. .

You want him to do more? Be specific - list what you want him to be better at besides shooting the ball. Like bringing the ballup up the court, dribble penetrate and kick what? How about he increase his rebounding and assists? Check those stats.

He has stepped up his game in other areas due to his lack of open looks as your own stats pointe out Cyde. His assists and rebounding are up as his shot attempts and percentage are down I believe he also has stepped up defensively in team concept. Including in the last game we won poster here remarked how he had played good d last two possessions .. I couldn't watch the games where I was thoughSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Also since when is 35 percent so bad shooting from 3 that's like 50 per from 2 last I checked I will certainly take that for a slump and the team not getting him the ball on the times he is open of course less these days due to all the attention. This team needs to get healthy ASAP..Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Redick still has Blake and Jamal out there who if not checked will get you 20 without breaking a sweat all while putting you on the wrong end of an entire highlight reel. Surely no team or player is going to place Redick higher on the gameplan than those two. All Atlanta has is Millsap and the ghost of Jeffrey whom even at their peaks aren't really likely to drop 30 on you at the drop of the hat. Kyle is already a limited player with an even weaker cast of weapons ahead of him and now has a bullseye painted on his back because of the streak. In addition, the Atlanta offense has been 3 dominant all year so how is it a surprise that teams are keying on the best 3point shooter on the team?

I want him to be more aggressive in trying to get himself open and to score the basketball. His shot attempts have gone down slightly in January, to 8.3 a game this month. Last night's 3 shot performance didn't help that attempt average.

His rebounding and assists are up by 1 in each category, while his ppg averages are down by a full 3 points. Sometimes I think he looks entirely too much for his 3 point shot, instead of simply working for where the open spaces on the court are. That in itself will limit his touches.

For him, a 21 foot long 2 is a good shot, especially if that means he's not going to shoot the ball at all.

We simply need more production out of a guy who is taking up 35 minutes a night. I want to see him try to assert himself tonight to score the basketball, and not just float around the 3 point line waiting for a pass.

If we can't ask him to do more, why are we paying him like he's the 3rd best player on the team?
