This year specifically I don't think it will be a problem because it's a deep draft and we've got space to take on 4 rookies and give them meaningful minutes if they warrant it. I don't know who it will be, but there's a number of guys who will be drafted outside the lottery who will make teams look foolish for sleeping on them. Even in the second round there will be a few quality contributors day 1.

While ideally we should take on some salary from teams like the Knicks or the Nuggets to move up back into the lottery I'm happy with our draft position at the moment.

Certainly adding 4 players would be possible, but my bigger and truest concern would be development and playing time.  I completely agree about there being some mighty intriguing options especially at 30th and 34th as well.

The problem to me anyway is just that, having that many such high picks.  It would be one thing if it was say the 50th and 54th picks where stashing them makes a great deal of sense.  However, having one of the top of the 2nd rounders and the fact that some franchises prefer top of the 2nd rounders over extreme late firsts owing to contractual differences it just would be a shock if we kept them all and the aforementioned integration concerns.

You have a point, but so long as we don't pull a Minnesota and draft 3 SGs (which would be easy to do this year) I think we'd be fine if no other trade was made. Ideally we package something together and try to go up to #8 or #10 with Cleveland or the Sixers.

But if the draft went something like:

#3- Mo Bamba

#19- Kevin Knox (probably would have to move up for him)

#30- Melvin Frazier

#34- Isaac Bonga

That's a lot of upside without there really being any positional overlap.

Maybe we do a deal with New York (#9 and Noah for #30 and future second or something) and draft:

#3- Jaren Jackson Jr

#9- Miles or Mikal Bridges

#19- Zhaire Smith or Elie Okobo

#34- Anfernee Simons

Wouldn't be as big a fan, but we wouldn't have each draft pick competing directly with each other.

I dig both scenarios.  There is a pretty good writeup about Miles Bridges on the Ringer that posted today and I too would be happy with either.

I would also be stoked with Bagley at 3, trading the 30th or 34th pick along with 19 to move up to get Sexton, and going with Simons with the 30th or 34th.

Bamba does intrigue me and I do feel there are worse fates than having a dominant defensive 5 who can shoot 3's

I am giving Bamba more serious thought at # 3 whereas earlier I considered him a reach at 3. I still think Trae Young is a reach at three; but taking him over Doncic, if Bagley goes at #2, would not be as big a shock as it was earlier.

There are reports we have interest in Noel and Beasley in free agency. We can afford to sign at least one of them, so our draft will play a huge part in who we chase. I do think these free agent rumors indicate Schlenk wants to compete next season if at all possible. Beasely has a home in Atlanta and is reportedly intrigued at playing here.

Last season everyone new we would take Collins at 19 if he dropped there. I don't think anyone has a real clue about who we will take at 3 this year.

No no no.  Our draft should not have ANY bearing on the likes of possible free agent signings the likes of Noel and heck no to Beasley.

Atlanta has capspace so every middling FA will have all eyes on Atlanta.

So based off this list (Completely speculative)

1. Bagley

2. Bamba

3. Jackson

4. Young

Doncic they can't workout so I'm not sure where he fits in this ranking.

They keeping things zip-locked. No one knows ish.

Atlanta is very likely to use the space on a contract. I am hearing Atlanta is very interested in the #14 and not for the #19 either. This might be a good deal for us.

@JayBirdHawkinvented trading for 14th and Faried so..

Woj is the one who actually said Denver was possibly trying to do that during the Draft Special a few weeks ago on ESPN.  He didn't name any teams, but who will have the cap space to do that (and what teams would burn their cap space for that type of deal)?

During my hiatus, eehem elsewhere.......there were 4 trades that I wanted us to make since we were rebuilding to get additional 2018 1st round picks:

1. With the Bucks before they traded for Bledsoe.

2. Denver for Faried

3. Pistons before they traded for Blake Griffin

4. Minny for their OKC 2018 pick.

All these teams that would have salary cap issues this offseason but still wanting to upgrade their team and try to stay in the playoffs or make the playoffs.

Gotcha.  I wasn't aware you were pushing that prior, but either way, I was stating there was someone most NBA fans respect for their reporting that confirmed Denver was looking to do just that with a willing team.

I am saying our draft will have the bearing on FA signing and who we chase. Not the other way around.

Thing is though Denver has been trying to trade Faried for the past 2 seasons. He got the big pay day but his game never improved.

Gotcha, read it differently.

If we draft a center, I don't think there is a high chance we entertain Noel at all. But then again, if we get him at good value, he could be trade bait later on.

He is a specialist like Tristan Thompson. His playing time depends on the nightly match up. For a team like ours though, he could be the first rebounding big off the bench easily.

I get the sentiment but after this years failed attempt at getting zip for Beli, Illy etc....I'm luke warm on that.
