ThomasCredle
Anyone else looking back on the Billy Knight years and wondering if he was just ahead of the times with his posiitionless basketball team concept? He made highly questionable draft calls but does look a lot more visionary today then he did when I routinely ranted and raged about him all those years ago...
kg01
It's fashionable to denigrate the guy but you're right. All the stuff GState claims to be about are similar to the things he was trying to do, obviously more so defensively. He just made the wrong picks. He made awful, awful picks. Philosophically, he was ahead of his time.

It would've worked . . . if we just could've convinced Josh Smith to be like Boris Diaw, and play center. Smith could've been Draymond Green, a point center that tried to make everyone else better FIRST, before finding his own offense.
Moderators AHF Posted May 24, 2019 Moderators Report Share Posted May 24, 2019 His refusal to go with a traditional point guard actually isn't a great fit for today's game. Passing on Chris Paul and Deron Williams so he could tag that 6'8'' basket was a mistake. Going with Shelden because he fit that profile was painful. His basic idea wasn't the worst but the execution of it was so painfully bad that it is hard to get a firm idea around what he was trying to accomplish. Could have also worked if he had let Boris Diaw be the point forward he knew how to be as well instead of forcing him to shoot.
