Defensive rebounds is the worst stat in the NBA.  They should really track contested rebounds or just not count uncontested rebounds at all.   And certainly a ball that hits the floor first should not be a rebound.

I was just thinking about this very thing on my way to work, while looking at that thread about Dre reaching 30 rebounds.  There should definitely be a stat that tracks "contested rebounds" vs "uncontested rebounds".

I will say this about defensive rebounding.  It's the last part of defense, and arguably the most important part of defense next to closing out on 3 point shooters.

The fact that we're a top 10 team defensively in 3 point FG%, but we're top 5 in 3 pointers given up, is a direct result of us not securing defensive rebounds to prevent 2nd chance points.  We're now #21 in Defensive rebound %.

Not sure where we rank in 2nd chance points given up, but it has to be high.  That's a killer in games decided by 6 points or less.

He's not going to make it, is he?

He is slightly ahead of the curve actually.  4 rebound nights will be more than enough.  He is close enough that he can't afford too many 0-2 rebound nights, though.

Most players who play 30 minutes will have the ball fall into their hands a couple times a night so he's got a real good shot at it.

Hunter with 9 rebounds for a total of 21 rebounds with 4 games to go.

Good for him.  I'm not going to knock him too much because these are no different than a lot of other guys but there's not a single rebound he fought for out of the 9 unless you count the one he took out of OO's hands.   2 literally hit him in the chest.  One Bob says "ends up in Hunter's hands", 2 he got at the 3 point line.

3.75 rebs per game....

low bar.

That's higher than his career average.  Low bar is like a description of every player's expectations outside of Trae.  Trae gets off to a slow start and gets so much hate.  With guys like Hunter, the mantra is totally different.

12 rebounds for Hunter over the last two games, 8 tonight, since returning from injury.

38 Total rebounds.

While 4.75 rebounds isn't anything to set the world on fire that would be a huge improvement over last year.  His first two years he was over 4.5 rpg so it isn't exactly a stretch.
