Trae Young voted most overrated player in the NBA by his peers

This confirms a concern I've had about Trae that has been largely ignored. It's tough to get foul calls in the playoffs. Refs intentionally swallow their whistle in the playoffs, and for a player like Trae, that alters the complexion of the game.

Despite that he's still in the top 5 in attempts for the playoffs, trailing the leader Durant by 2 attempts per game.

And then you have Jimmy Butler

He had one of the great playoff performances of all time tonight.  But guess what else he had:

When you're watching this game, the refs got caught up in the emotion of the crowd, and gave Jimmy very touchy fouls. Dare I say regular season touch fouls.  The one foul they called on Middleton when the Heat were down by 8, literally was one of the big momentum changers down the stretch of that game.

All 3 "and-1" calls were minimum contact or no contact calls ( in the case of two of them ).  And some of the other calls on Middleton were very questionable.  Almost to the level what they do with Dre Hunter.

4 FTs came late as Milwaukee had to foul . . . without their best outside shot make, who fouled out guarding Butler.

Bucks fans on Twitter are not happy

Trae just need to start shooting the floater as go to shot at all times

He needs to shoot everything.  They're not going to let him get into the lane whenever he wants.  Especially when some of our bigs are setting slight screens, and looking to roll to the rim.

So Trae needs to shoot everything in his arsenal.  Layups, floaters, midrange, long 3s, logo 3s . . . the entire package.

It is kind of astounding that this keeps getting reported as "NBA Players vote Trae Young Most Overrated" when it was 7 out of the nearly 500 people who played in the NBA this season who cast those votes.  7 isn't even half of the players who played on a single team this year let alone reflecting all "NBA Players" like they are making it out to be.

it was 7/50, not 7/500.  We have no idea how the 450 players not polled would've voted.

True, but we DO KNOW that only 7 players out of the 500 or so in the Association actually voted him most overrated.  Which is weird in and of itself since we don't have any official criteria for player ratings.  So is he overrated based on the media coverage?  Fan support? Some unofficial player ratings?

Like KG and PP said, all it really means is 7 dudes don't like him.  Well who the heck cares about that?

7 out of 50.    Not 7 out of 500.

Right.  So this was not a poll of all the NBA players this season.  It was 7 of them that voted this way but you would think from the reports that this was the product of all NBA players.  That is exactly my point.  We have no idea who was polled or how many votes anyone would have gotten but 7 isn't a big obstacle to overcome in an election where 90% of the votes have yet to be tabulated (especially since the gap between Trae and the next guy was less than 7).

IIRC....108 player participated in the overall poll. Only 54 of them answered the 'who's most overrated question' 8 of the 54 voted for Trae - all the guys he nutmegged.

No.  It's most definitely 7 out of 500.  Read what I said.  It's factual.

no it's not.  It's 7 out of 50.    According to you it might as well be 7 out of the entire population of the USA.  or why stop there, say it was 7 out o the entire population of North America.

There were 50 people polled.  7 picked Trae.  therefore, it is 7 out of 50.  It is NOT 7 out of 500.

There is nothing factual about the nonsense you are trying to spin.

Thanks.  Still shows how misleading the headlines are on this.

So you obviously think Trae is overrated.  List the reasons why.

when did I ever say or imply that?     I'm clearly pointing out the nonsense in some of the homerific post in this thread.  never once gave my opinion on it.

But that's the world we now live in.  Disagree with something someone said and watch 20 people come back and accuse you of agreeing with something you never said.

As Jay pointed out, 108 people were polled so less than 8% of the people polled picked Trae and almost 80% of the NBA wasn't polled.  That is why this is misleading when they say "NBA Players" picked Trae as most overrated.  They report this as if he was the overwhelming choice when that is just not the case.  We don't know who would have gotten the most votes if all NBA players participated.  That is a big unknown.  Trae would have been in the mix but so would the people who got the other 42 votes of the votes they got.

agreed.  It's a very misleading headline.     But, on the flipside, the people here who are saying that only 7 out of 500 picked Trae are being just as deliberately misleading as whoever wrote that headline.
