Speedy? Summer League?

According to Sekou's blog he's on the Summer League Roster. What do you take from that? Hopefully he'll decide to retire, play well enough where he becomes a viable trade commodity or plays well enough where he will be able to be a positive contributor. Anything outside of those three options is a waste.

How about he and Law play well enough that Sund feels comfortable trading Bibby? I don't think Speedy can do anything in the summer league that would warrant a team taking him in a trade, he'll need to stay healthy for at least the first half of the season for that. But if he and Law give the team 48 minutes of solid floor leadership, then maybe we can do something sooner than later with Bibby's expiring deal. Get Mike Wilks as your 3rd PG and hope for the best. (Especially since Law seems to be rehabbing that wrist to hopefully limit future injury to it).

That may be the least likely scenario. However, if that happened (best case), I'd be down with it.

Interesting idea! Mike Wilks is the kind of 'distributing' PG that would be good to have as a backup, assuming he is out there with scorers. If Speedy is healthy, it does give the Hawks greater flexibility with player moves.

What a bum, and to believe we actually signed this guy and some people expected it to be a good signing...

We need to keep Speedy away from Acie, I think Acie might catch the injury bug from Speedy. Acie already has chronic wrist problems and I am skeptical to believe his therapy is "doing wonders." Remember last off-season when Sekou and Mullin said Speedy's knee was good as new after a trip to a knee specialist?

Consistent with your post, my fear is that the bug was already caught @ A&M, having nothing to do w/ Speedy.

What's more, Bibby's injury history isn't stellar either, all of which suggests that we really ought to find at least one PG this summer who, at least, has less uncertainty physically.

If Speedy can come in and give us 2 good years at 22 mpg... Bless him. He was a very good defensive PG and he could run an offense.

Sekou was always doubtful of Speedy's health.

It is obvious the guy wants to run. It is also obvious his injuries were real. If he makes it back at 75 percent, he can contribute mightily. If Speedy is at 90%, Bibby should be traded with Marvin.

If Speedy can come back and play 20 minutes a game it allows us to have 2 point guards on the 2nd team and it also allows Acie to take on the scoring role with the 2nd unit.

Acie needs to be running the team, not being a scorer.

He can play both roles and give us more versatility.

Right now this bum has us right up against the Luxury Tax. We might lose a Josh because of it. If his $5.8 mil is not on our roster then we can sign the Joshes with no problem at all. He is a waste of space. He would have to be putting up 30 mpg and 70+ games this season for him to live up to his contract and it won't happen.

Its a joke to actually see people believe he could come back and play. Hell even if he does come back and give us the mythical 22 mpg do you really want someone who is a career 40% shooter? Some on this board realize that we have a terrible shooting team, so why do we want to put Craig out there? "Oh no watch out, they have their 3-point specialists out there, Claxton, Chill, Smoove, Marvin, and Horford!!!"

Sorry to sound like a mule here but this guy is a complete joke. I never wanted any part of him, and yet at one point in time he was being sold as our starting point guard for the next 4 years.

I think he already has it, just give it 2 or 3 more times of him actually injuring his wrist again for people to say he is injury prone but that is because people want to be absolutely certain he is injury prone.

I know it's a stretch to think that he will ever be the player that he was his last year in NO but if he is anything close to that he will be a very solid defensive PG and capable of running the team up and down the floor and getting into the paint with ease.

With all that said I would be shocked if we got anything out of him this year, maybe next year when he will be trying to get another contract but if he does give us anything this year I will be thrilled.

Let's correct some of your mistakes here.

Speedy doesn't have us up against the Luxury tax. If you want to blame anybody for that, blame BK. He made dumb draft picks, the realized that he had to go out and find some players... Me personally, I think he did good getting Bibby.

We might lose Smith because of his 5.8 Million dollars. Actually, the only way that we can lose Smith is that ASG refuses to match. Period. Everybody was happy when the Hawks bested the Celtics at home in the playoffs. Everybody was all smiles when we took them to seven games. Our owners were courtside celebrating. Welp, it's time to pay the piper. It seems like most of the rats have left the city... It's time to pay the piper. If we don't pay the piper, the rats will be back.

He is a waste of space. He would have to be putting up 30 mpg and 70+ games this season for him to live up to his contract and it won't happen. You can say that about every injured player in the league. I'm sure that LAC fans have been cursing Shawn Livingston too. You know the wasted draft pick. I'm sure that Houston fans think that Yao is a bum and wish that they would have drafted... uhm Jay Williams?? You can't really account for injury. But I got somebody you can blame. Blame Sam Cassell.

Hell even if he does come back and give us the mythical 22 mpg do you really want someone who is a career 40% shooter? Well, first, let's see him come back, then we need to see in what capacity he is going to play. Aren't you tired of seeing PGs just waltz through our defense?? For 22 mpg, it's possible that we have a guy who can stop all that. At the same time, we have a guy who can run an offense. Don't you want to see our offense working at top capacity? Sure, I would love for Speedy to be an 80% shooter from the field and 75% from 3... However, you have to look beyond shooting to see his value. His value is that he is a tough defensive PG who can run the offense.

I never wanted any part of him, and yet at one point in time he was being sold as our starting point guard for the next 4 years. He was picked up for that purpose. Like I said, you can't dictate injury. He might be the guy who helps Acie learn to be a pro PG. You never know.

If you can't understand that he has us up against the luxury tax and that we would lose a Josh because of this then I cannot help you. If we do not have Speedy, we are not against the luxury tax. Hell you could say the same thing about Zaza but at least he plays.

Those guys didn't get signed knowing they were injury-prone. Speedy averaged 60 games a year when we signed him (less if you count him missing his entire rookie year to a knee injury) so we knew he was going to get injured.

BK is also to blame about this move, but at the same time this bum just sits around collecting paychecks. I cannot stand him, he has never amounted to anything in his whole career except for one decent season in NO (as a BACKUP) and a "championship run" where he contributed a whopping 13 minutes a game. Yeah he sure can teach Acie, he can teach him how you should only have good seasons when you are on the last year of your contract.

There is no way the Hawks could trade Bibby or Law even if Speedy plays great during the summer league simply because Speedy is not reliable. He always gets injured and the possibility of him lasting a full 82 games (and hopefully the playoffs) is nil and void.

Way too risky if you ask me given Spedy's injury history.
