I'd like to get a colletive pulse of Hawksquawk and see how we feel about what the team should do. My thinking obviously revolves around us making a BIG trade that could backfire on us big time, such as the Rider / Jackson fiasco or the Nique trade. Basically if you believe that we should make a big trade then you have to be able to live with the results that could put us back in the lottery or possibly even worse, teetering on the brink of the lottery with a shell of the team we have now... or we could make that big trade and have big time success and convince the aquired player(s) to stick around long term.

I say we stick with the squad we have, but to be honest, that could just be me enjoying the players that we have.

It has become painfully clear that we have a handful of shortcomings with this team. That being said, I enjoy this team immensely, even throughout all the boneheaded jumpers, iso-Joe fails, blowout losses to bad teams, and Jason Collins sightings (he is the only player on the team I dislike). I want to win just as badly as everybody else here does, but above all, I want to win with THIS squad. I've watched the team grow, I've seen Teague improve, Marvin gain confidence in his shot, Al become a 17 foot jumper specialist, and Josh Smith evolve, devolve, and the like. I've watched Zaza go from disgruntles backup to efficient fill-in starter, all while giving 100% percent, and doing it in Zaza style. I've watch Ivan Johnson go from a walking assault charge to a late-game hero. I've watched T-Mac look like the T-Mac of old this year because we were willing to give him a chance. I've watched Willie Green silently become a very solid signing. I've watched Joe Johnson get ridiculed by every pundit and sports fan in America, and then respond with some of the most cold blooded shots i've ever seen. I remember Joe breaking Powe's ankles and how hyped the fans (and we) got. I WANT THAT FEELING AGAIN FROM THESE PLAYERS. Josh Smith alley-oops, Zaza 12 & 18 games against the Heat, Teague outplaying Rose for stretches of time after coming in off the bench cold.

I might be in the minority holding the belief that we can win a championship with this team, but I know for a fact that i'm not alone in the thought that I WANT to win a championship with these team. Over the past 5 years, and even more-so this year (with the addition of Willie, Pargo, Rad, Ivan and T-Mac) i've grown to love this team and the players we have. While other teams sold out and bought selling-out stars, we stayed true to our team (though, probably a bit due to cheapness and the fact many players didn't even want to come here) and I want to see it pay off. Maybe it is just a pipe dream, but I'll give it one more chance.

I'm a fan of the team too, but I also want to be realistic about the current roster. I think it's peaked and change is needed. Not change just for the sake if change (I. Rider), but effective change. I enjoy watching the team play, but I also realize the goal is not just to play, but to win a title (or atleast that's what it should be). I've longed felt this "core" had run it's course and I think the structure of the team needs to be ajusted. I'd like to see what a package of Smith and Hinrich could fetch.

Gotta make a trade, man. This team won't go anywhere. You gotta take the risk mainly because we don't have other options to get dramatically better thanks to our lack of financial flexibility and lack of trade assets.

I like making the playoffs, but our team isn't constructed to win anything significant. And if we don't make major moves, that will continue for several more years.

Small trade like Kirk/Marvin for Kaman.

If not that...

then trade for the future (since Horf won't be here for the playoffs).

Horf for Brook Lopez and Marshon

The status quo is much better than that.

Put Josh in that trade instead of Horf and I'm all for it. The Nets might bite since they want Howard so bad.

I'll be a fan of the Hawks no matter what, but I'm torn on whether or not I think this team should be blown up or or not. I could type for days about the pros and cons, but it would really all come down to what we'd be getting and giving up in said "blow up" trade.

Can you trade a coach?

Nothing drastic right now, but there needs to be a change around the team. They still do the same s*** they did under Woody. Since LD and Woody are so similar, its hard to tell if its a player issue or a coach issue.

As much as I would like to see some exciting news that would make the Hawks better, I'd rather stick with what we have than make a big trade that just as likely as not, would blow up in our face. Remember the Rider trade? Set the team back years. However, if the team ends up with a poor record against above 500 teams or shows up poorly in the playoffs, then maybe a trade for next year makes sense.

I'm not saying don't make a small trade now (something to help shore up a weak position, or avoid getting nothing for an expriing contract). Just don't blow up the team.....yet.

I'm in favor of blowing up what we have but we all know the A$G won't do that. They will try to sell Horford's injury as the reason we didn't do so well this year. The reality is they want to sell this team and it is easier to do it with a 50ish win team that can consistenly make the second round of the playoffs versus a team with a blown up roster and trying to rebuild or start from scratch.

I'm all for making roster changes, but I don't like the blow it up route. I just cannot deal with 13/26 win seasons. I watch basketball to be entertained and I like knowing that on any given night that the Hawks CAN win a game instead of knowing they WILL lose.

I think it needs to be said that "blowing up the team" and making a significant trade a two totally different things. The Hawks could most definitely trade two or three players to bring back help at certain positions and improve or still remain a quality team because they would still have Joe, Teague and most likely Horford. Blowing up the roster suggests they hold a firesale to trade everyone for draft picks. Two different things.
