Truth Be Told, The Offense Looked The Best Under Bibby In That Last 20 Years For Us

Bibby ran the offense to a tee. Was it excellent, clearly not. Did we have major flaws, absolutely like Jamal and JJ ball stopping, Josh being Josh, and Bibby only being able to execute the PnP instead of the PnR because he was never a threat to attack the basket when him and Al had PnR. He was a true PG even if he wasn't a PnR PG or a playmaker. While Mookie was our best PG in that time, guys like Lue, Anthony, Teague, E. Davis, Dickau, Law, is all too much of the same. Heavily flawed players who always get outclassed from their competition.

It did, Bibby plays matador defense. One of the worse defenders I'd ever seen in the NBA for Atlanta.

It got better under Bibby, I think partly because of his good shooting, but it was mostly still the same as before him....inconsistent and oftentimes completely dysfunctional.

We ran real sets, we ran an offense and depending on the opponent, we executed. It just doesn't look like it because of personnel gaffs that the Hawks have. No #1 option, no low post play, a poor outside shooter taking bad jumpers and killing momentum. Bibby issue was the fact that he wasn't talented on offense and defensively he was an epic liability.

Our offense was HORRIBLE with Bibby and we were far better in the Mookie years. With Bibby we tried the PnR sometimes but usually the offense was dribble dribble dribble wait for double team and skip pass to open man for 3pt shot.

Actually our offense was better, even statistically as well as turnover %. It was still hard on the eyes but Bibby had one of the highest BBIQ in the NBA at the time offensively speaking. Like I said, this team will always have offensive issues without a #1 option and starting Josh Smith.

Real Set = ISO JOE.ISO JOE Back and to the Left.

Usually, ISO teams have less turnovers because there is only one guy with the ball.

We ran an offense, it just disappeared in the 4th quarter with Bibby. That Mookie team didn't really score much in constast to this one. Mookie was more of a shooter and a defensive specialist than anything else. Mookie was easily our best PG since Pistol Pete.Remember how we would run an offense and in the 4th it became iso Joe and iso Jamal.

Bibby knew how to keep the ball out of Josh's hands. In fact stat wise, the higher the usage rate for Smith the worst off he was offensively. Bibby knew that and made sure Josh usage wasn't around the perimeter like it was this year and after the trade last year.

Under Bibby our OffRtg was 2nd and 10th in the entire NBA. One time that was with Flip Murray wasn't even a NBA player at that point and he was a stud with the Hawks due to their high ball stopping, high volume shooting based offense. Bibby made everything work. To say otherwise is bs.

Teague letting smoove mess up his play and allowing smoove to bring the ball up and get the ball on the perimeter is my biggest complaint about himHe should demand the ball in the backcourt and he should only pass to smoove when he posts up inside of 18'He should feed smoove a bunch when he's inside and not at all when outside or when refusing to pass to the pg and smoove will learn to play rightBut teague doesn't and ld doesn't demand it either so jt is handcuffing himself and smoove is pissing off half the board and teammatesA star pg or vet coach would force smoove to play like an MVP and smoove would get awards and accolades and stop with the bad plays

Josh doesn't respect Teague. Why? Becuase Teague runs the offense like he never played the position before. Josh maybe dumb with the Basketball in his hands but without it, he knows how to run the sets better than most in the NBA. That is not Josh issue. Even with Bibby, Josh didn't do stuff like this. This isn't about that though. This is more so a thread about the impact of what a true PG can do for this team. We get a really good one and we can win a title or at least contend. Josh usage rate this year is 28.4 which is 12th in the NBA. No reason why an average offensive PF should have an usage rate that high. As a PG, you can't let that happen.

Bibby, lol. All I can do is laugh.

What's funny about that. He was seriously our best PG outside of Mookie in the last 20 years and it wasn't even close. Edited by nbasuperstar40

Bibby wasn't even the worst defender on the team. Crawford was worse. Bibby at least gave some effort. Crawford just showed disdain for doing anything on the defensive end.

Jamal could play decent man defense, his off the ball D was absolutely the worst in Basketball.

Bibby set good screens when he wanted to, and I agree, his overall I.Q. is considerably higher than anyone other than Al on our team currently. He understood spacing, the clock, and situational play much better than our guards. But defensively, I don't miss him a bit. Always good to see a Flip Murray reference. I almost forgot about that dude and how much I enjoyed his best year here. That hanging jumper was money and he always got under Kobe's skin with the Philly trash talk.

Flip was a scrub in general but this darn team was perfect for him. Same can be said for Jamal. Where else was Flip going to get 24.6 usage rating with serious PT in the NBA? Bibby offensive game was so underrated on here. He also knew what were the players hot spots and knew how to get it to them. Look at Horf's #'s with Bibby the yr Bibby was traded. Mookie was a bit better, but Doc Rivers wasn't chopped liver either. I would love to have a prime Doc in Atlanta today.
