Danny Ferry - the Grim Reaper

OK, let's think about this. Ferry got rid of our all-star and managed to pitch our favorite chatroom entertainment in Marvin.

If I remember right BK was pretty good at knocking down a franchise, but not worth a darn at building it back up again. Let's see how Danny-Boy does...at least he has a tool in AL Horford.Posted Image

Ferry also got rid of the worst contract in the NBA, but yes, 1 month in Ferry has primarily only deconstructed a mediocre team and is currently left with a mediocre team with more flexibility than any Hawk's team in history. He deconstructed like BK but better, faster, and against all odds (the JJ deal). Frankly, if he rebuilds like BK only better (CP or Deron, no shellhead promise, no Childress reach) and faster (in 3 instead of 6 years) we would have anointed BK.

When Ferry took the job he said it would be a couple of years before the process of acquiring the right talent would be completed. I think there are a lot of moves still to come. I'm willing to be patient as I feel there is someone in charge who actually has a long-term vision of what a successful NBA franchise looks like from the bottom to the top.

I hope people don't expect us to be a top 3 seed this season. It was expected to take a small step back this season when we had got rid of Joe Johnsons contract. We still have a competitive team right now with a deep bench. That is way better than I had thought we would be this season. I will start to critique after this up coming season is over. For now, I'm very excited in what Ferry has done with this roster.

The big day to wait for is Sept. 11th. This is the first day that anyone in the Brroklyn trade, and devin harris, can be included in other trades

People did not take the time to look at the stuff Ferry was doing in depth before they started claiming he deserves a statue. Now once you start seeing all this real talent moved around and we are not getting any of it, you see what some of us saw from the beginning. It will be much easier to give away players than to get them.

Makes me wonder how many would have been happy if we kept JJ and just made the deal with the Jazz? Would that have been enough to get to the next level?

It would've been a move that could duplicate the team we had back in 2009 - 10, the 53 win team that could beat anybody in the league . . except Orlando with Dwight Howard. Harris > Jamal Crawford . . . because Harris does more attacking the rim and is a far better passer and a legit PG. Whether you start Harris at the 2, or bring him off the bench to play the 6th man, the Hawks would have a quality guard to play with JJ, Smith, or Horford at all times. We'd still need a SF to back up JJ. But now, we'd be talking about a specialist type SF that could defend, instead of a starter quality SF. PG - Teague / Harris G - Jenkins / Harris F - Johnson PF - Smith / Ivan C - Horford / Zaza Add possibly another combo G and a defensive SF, and that's a team that could replicate what we did 2 years ago.

Where is your hate for Danny Ferry coming from? Before he traded away JJ and Marvin, those two were in the top 3 must be traded players according to most sqwakers. But because he didn't get either Dwight or Bynum (neither of whom said they wanted to play in Atlanta) Ferry gets blame. Lets give him at least a year before we start heavily criticizing his moves.

Frosgrim... Here's the thing.

Ferry's putting hope into the draft..obviously. That's the only reaosn why a man with a pocket full of money would proclaim "a Few years". However, Basketball is funny.

Ferry has a team of guys who have complained.

Smoove complained about wanting to be traded because the ownership was taking this team nowhere. Really Smoove complaints were about him having to go out and get a deal and Joe and Horf not having to do that.

Horf complained about playing C.

What exactly has changed?

We are not giving Josh a Max contract. He's not worth it. We all know that.

We're not moving Horf to PF if we don't have a legit C.

What has changed?

So what we have now is:

[*]Two guys who have complained... the new captains on this team and they will feel all the pressure that they never felt before.

    [*]Lame Duck Coach.

    [*]Team full of expiring contracts.

[*]Very little luck with Free Agency.

    [*]No Defense.

It's really tough to find hope in anything except the draft. I'm Good with Shabazz.

I would have liked that... Thing is people fail to see that we could have amnestied Joe at any time. Instead, we got rid of Joe while he was still useful with no plan. If we had a bonafide plan, I would have been good with parting with Joe. However, the plan is let us cast ourselves into the bottom of the pit and try to build a new ladder? It's like watching the seasons change. There's nothing new coming. While teams like LA and Miami go out and get what they want.

My thing about trading JJ, is that we got no tangible asset for him. Even that draft pick is so far off in the future, that you can't even take it serious yet.The real question should be . . . why were people cool with trading JJ away for nothing but garbage that we're not going to use after this year? Could've traded him away, shed salary in 2013, and still gotten an asset or two for him. When the 2013 - 14 season comes around, and Al Horford and Josh Smith are still our best players, with most of the major free agents going elsewhere, what then?

And it's funny now how people are relying on us trading the garbage that we picked up. Like people want most of those players. I guess we'll end up trading Devin Harris for Tayshawn Prince around January. And people will rejoice over that.

What other teams did you hear about wanting to take on Joe's contract?

When has a contract like JJ's not been moveable, especially as the dollars increased?

True, but that's how it has always been with players wanting to come here and I think Ferry knew that already. But for the first time in history, I've not only heard from fans that we are going in the right direction, but by the experts too. We didn't do good in free agency but no one really though we would anyway. But the majority agree that we are going in the right direction. That's bad around here! That is what changes cultures and that is what attracts players!

I don't like false hope. I guess I am the type that would think strongly of not taking treatment if I came down with some disease like cancer that you are most likely going to die from complications related to anyway. What is the point of wasting time, energy, and resources on fake hope? You know that it is still going to end the same way. That is the way I feel about Ferry. He gave a lot of dreamers a lane to dream with this cap space ploy. Now they will continue to dream and get mad at anyone that tells them that the odds are not stacked in this turning out any better than it has turned out for the majority of people that have tried it. When you remodel a house, the first step is demolition... Also, it takes long than one month to "remodel" a team. Danny completed the first two steps in that he cleared cap and then brought in a few pieces for the future. Step 3 won't happen until next offseason...

It's only false hope when you don't have any solid proof that anything will be done... Ferry has shown that he is not afraid to make moves. The ownership have backed off and Smoove is back in our good graces. Jenkins looked like our starting 2 guard of the future in SL and Lou Williams sign the MLE with us. This time last year, I had no hope at all for the Hawks. I was really hoping the season was going to be cancelled... IFWT

Oh, yeah. Great idea. There are a lot of Russian billionaire owners who publicly indicate they "don't care about the lottery". JJ a year older, slower with a the worst 3 yr remaining contract in the NBA and Pikoff N'dropoff or Yuri N'sane would be begging to take JJ off our hands in 2013 (even knowing they wouldn't be able to ever amnesty him). Begging! Two "assets" even. Probably 3. Seriously, even without the tighter LT rules I don't see how anyone believes that there would have been other, future offers for JJ that wouldn't cost us 1-2 1st rders much less garner us a 1st rder. I also don't get people who see an exchange of MW for Harris as us "getting the last piece". Seriously, the "luxury tax mediocrity or bust" crowd cannot be taken seriously. W

But but but, Rashard Lewis was traded TWICE! ........for worse contracts. I guess the team just had to be patient and wait for that Amar'e trade to go down for Joe or wait 3 years down the line when he was an expiring to pick up mediocre players on bad contracts..... Of course the team would have been an even bigger mess by then but why sweat such minute details?
