Guest
Well #1 you don't play him nearly 40 mpg like Thibs always played him. And you don't expect lock down defense all the time either. Play him 30 mpg in a rotation with DMC and Korver and we'll be good to go. He may get injured or he may feel rejuvenated to play in a much lighter system. Ya. Just lessen the guys role. We have DMC to back him up for significant minutes. The only team at this point who should not look at Deng would be a team with Don Nelson as the head coach. He would play Deng 46 minutes and run him into the ground like he did with Latrell Sprewell at GS and Michael Finley in Dallas.
DS17Fanboy
The real question concerning future Hawks aspirations should be: can he guard Lebron come playoff-time? I like Chicago Deng allot, also as a defender, but stats show he has not been all that great post-season in this matchup and I doubt he gets better at his age. I think its better to develop a young and hungry anti-lebron weapon trough the draft at that position and spend the money elsewhere. Like with a Sanders, Monroe, and/or Affalo. DrReality
I agree. 1. The new rules are only 3 days instead of 7 days as far as waiting time for Houston to respond to our offer sheet. 2. It screws Morey out of Melo and Love unless he declines signing Parsons. That's very interesting The kind of thing that DF would use in the game of chess.
DrReality
The Spurs have a history of claiming guys like him and using them wisely and I think Budz is no different. Given his experience in Cleveland he likely will take such things into consideration.

He may not be worth the max but he is can be a top 5 SF in the league and fits Bud's system to a tee. He hates the midrange jumper, shoots 3's and attacks the rim. frankthetank966
Parsons is a good fit but at 13 mm I think that would be nuts! Would rather save that money an extend Millsap. I would spent 6-8 on parson.
Admin
Parsons won't be getting 12-13 million no way. He's probably gonna get 9-10 but that's it.
benhillboy
I never been high on Deng. Jack of all trades, master of none. He'd have a nice bounceback season and maybe post his highest three point percentage under Bud, nothing more. 8 mil is crazy talk when that's in Parson's ballpark. Deng is a much better defender and isn't a restricted free agent plus he's shown he can carry the load offensively as the lead dog when he was given the chance in Chicago this year. I'd like Parsons but Deng at 8 million and no waiting on his team to match is a good deal.

I'm surprised a lot of squawkers are down on Deng given the fact that the Bulls have been giving us the business the last few years and most of which hasn't been Rose. It's been Deng, Noah and Gibson I'd say. Ps I think I know why he didn't do well in Cleveland, it was the porn star/molester stache he was sporting which he wasn't as a Bull. Shave that $hit off and welcome to Atlanta.
Premium Member Jody23 Posted June 7, 2014 Premium Member Report Share Posted June 7, 2014 Parsons would definitely be a great get. I don't think Houston can keep him and sign the star free agent they say they'll sign this off season.

I don't think Houston can keep him and sign the star free agent they say they'll sign this off season. Honestly, I don't know if Parsons is better than Deng... I'm not a fan of Deng because he's a Dukie. However, I respect his game. He's a lockdown defender and can give us 16 on a bad night. Chandler has promise but I don't see the lockdown defender. I see a hustle guy. Much like DMC but Chandler can score.

Exactly, Chandler can score. His defense is good but not what Deng brings when/IF healthy. However, we need a guy that can score. The Pacers' series showed we need another wing guy that can drop shots. IMO, Chandler is that guy. I'm not opposed to Dang, I just think there are some better options out there. coachx
I have always been a fan of Deng's game. I'd like to see him in ATL for $8 mill per. I believe that Deng will still be a productive player at 29, 30, 31. Of course that is assuming his 3 pt shot returns. We would need it back in that 36 - 40% range. coachx
Wouldn't hate it -- but I think if he is worth that at this point in his career, then we should really be thinking about offering Parsons a sizeable contract. Are Parsons and Korver the right match of starting wings ? I like Parsons but have never liked his defense. I remember NBDL players at UGA really exposing his defense. Since we already have Korver I'm hesitant investing too much money in 2 wings who are below average defenders.........especially without a proven shot blocker behind them to cover their weakness.

Honestly I disagree parsons defense is actually pretty good. He's no lockdown defender but at worst he is average on defense. Way better than Korver though. On offense end they are pure threats all game on the court at the same time but I wouldn't start them together I would start DMC. Afro
If you trade Lou could we potentially sign Hayward, Deng, and a backup big? I'd like Hill but I'm not sure he leaves LA.

I think Korver's defense is very underrated. I kind of feel Parsons' might also but haven't quite seen enough of him to really make that assessment. If both in the same ballpark in terms of contract, I take Parsons at this point in their careers. I wouldn't be mad at Deng though. I'd just prefer to get some young blood on the team. Guest
I think we have roughly $10 million in available cap space to sign free agents. The capologists @hawksfanatic will have to confirm if this includes cap holds etc. Edit: we can trade Lou and get an addt'l $5 mil Edited June 7, 2014 by JayBirdHawk
