Assuming Levenson owns 30% or something like that, who would want only that much of the team?  Sure, it would likely gain value over the next few years, as all of the BIG 4 pro sports teams seem to appreciate over time, but other than being a passive investor you wouldn't get much by becoming just another one of several dysfunctional money losing ASG owners.  

 

And if you are the other current owners of the ASG, why offer Levenson much for his share?  He's in a bind so you could low-ball him a bit (unless, as I stated above, there are other passive investors looking to get in on an appreciable asset).

 

I think the attractiveness of his share of the team is really in someone's ability to group it with enough of the other ASG owner's shares to get to 51% and become the controlling partner.  If someone is willing to offer, say $750 million (since Milwaukee sold for $550 million) I think the other owners would sell and maintain small shares so they could still have their perks and enjoy front row seats.  

 

Otherwise I think Levenson will be lucky to find someone to offer him more than $200 million for his share, which is still a nice profit over what he originally paid (less than $100 million).

Is Anson Carter still interested?  He was trying to by the Hawks, Thrashers, and Philips Arena, but ASG wouldn't give him the time of day.  We'd still have hockey, owned by a black hockey player no less, had that gone through.  Wasted opportunity!
