curtmcgirt
If I read this right, its the Grant Hill-Itzler grouphttp://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-02-26/atlanta-hawks-bidders-said-to-include-rays-frankel-chaifetz
Popular Post Randy
Bids up to $900 M. Kind of makes it hard for me to see how the Hawksquawk ownership group I'm trying to form will be able to raise that much. Says ASG bought the team for $189M in 2004. Pretty good deal for them. Guess they should be glad the NBA killed the deal with the PIzza guy. Edited February 26, 2015 by Randy
Premium Member sturt Posted February 26, 2015 Premium Member Report Share Posted February 26, 2015 Should I feel antsy about not hearing about more locals pursuing ownership? Or does that really matter in any substantive way?
Moderators lethalweapon3 Posted February 26, 2015 Moderators Report Share Posted February 26, 2015 (2013 file photo of honorees at a Duke game) I figure Grant is once again cool with his fellow alum, certainly by now? With Chaifetz's ComPsych on board, Ferry would probably just have to sign up for an EAP program or something. The Chaifetz/Bridgeman linkage has me a little leery because of their St. Louis ties, but Itzler and Hill seem to have anchored themselves into the ATL for the long haul. ~lw3
JETSET
Should I feel antsy about not hearing about more locals pursuing ownership? Or does that really matter in any substantive way? The NBA wouldn't allow the Bucks to leave Milwaukee so there is 0% chance of them letting the Hawks leave a market like Atlanta.
Premium Member sturt Posted February 26, 2015 Premium Member Report Share Posted February 26, 2015 Not that they would leave. Just that absentee ownership, at least in terms of conventional thinking, is more often a bad thing than a good thing, no?
frosgrim
Given all we've heard, I think it is highly unlikely there will be a local person/group buying the Hawks and Philips Arena. It is unfortunate, but maybe some of these ownership groups will have some basketball people and some of these may live in Atlanta.
Moderators macdaddy Posted February 26, 2015 Moderators Report Share Posted February 26, 2015 Don't forget our current local guys still want to involved. They want to sell while also maintaining ownership so they can continue to screw up the Hawks and Widespread Panic shows at Philips.
hazer
I'm ok with Grant Hill as the face of Hawks ownership. Especially if he keeps on his fellow Dukie Danny Ferry.
Dejay
I really don't want anyone from (insert non-NBA city that would love to have a team) getting majority control. The guy from Oklahoma City wanted to keep the Sonics in Seattle too, remember???

Moderators macdaddy Posted February 26, 2015 Moderators Report Share Posted February 26, 2015 Contrary to popular opinion, I'd much prefer the Hawks to be purchased by hedge fund managers and/or a large corporation as a part of portfolio diversification a la Time Warner before the A$G. Get someone in here that wants to make money and not be a dickhead fan who interferes with operations even though they have putrid understanding of player valuations and roster management (BK and Gearon). I might could get behind that were it not for Liberty Media screwing the fans and city and screwing up the team.

Didn't they sign that terrible media rights deal that is hamstringing the Braves far into their future as well?
bird_dirt
Bridgeman lives here in Louisville, and I've never heard a bad word spoken about him. In this town, you always here something if there's anything worth repeating. I've met his wife, and she's quite nice. I'd be happy if he was an owner. hazer
More on Chaifetz http://www.brewhoop.com/2014/4/7/5592090/dr-richard-chaifretz-bucks-sale-investor-chicago I like this from the comments section: "Wrong I currently live in St. Louis and there is no interest from the city to be the home of an NBA franchise. An MLS team will come before an NBA team. The city has enough trouble supporting three professional franchises: Rams, Blues, and Cardinals. And the future of the Rams in St. Louis is in question. GoBango4YoBucks!’s concerns over St. Louis being a possible destination are more paranoia than anything. I assure you St. Louis is not a threat."

Puts my mind slightly more at ease, with Chaifetz having St. Louis connections and the Hawks' history there. So they're what, Bulls fans? Pacers? Grizz? Thunder? DrReality
St. Louis is a baseball town. Grew up outside of there and even saw the Hawks when they were there. Zelma Beaty et al
