This team has reached it's ceiling

Yeah, god forbid a coach could actually improve with more experience with his team. Everybody knows you are what you are as soon as you come out the box!

/casm

And for other people that think this team has peaked in the 2nd year under this staff - I've seen some ridiculous things on this forum over the years, but this might actually take the cake as the most ridiculous EVER. Unreal. Three years after a major overhaul, and 2 years after bringing this coaching staff in - we were in the freaking final 4 for goodness sake. Missing our best backup wing defender. A myriad of other nagging injuries to starters. A gimped DMC after the 1st game. With a roster that has never been this far. With a lot of young talent that will be steadily improving, and other players all in their prime. With Tavares likely coming over. And a #15 draft pick for even more depth. We've turned ourselves into a desirable free agent destination. Korver is the only one even close to being over the hill. Some of you people make me want to slap you upside the head to knock some sense into ya.

Coach Bud has been in this league for almost 20 years.

I'm just pointing that this idea that Bud wiil just "work his magic" and everything will turn into gold is just BS. People have too much faith in him. Some act like he can walk on water or something. It's nonsense.

The Cavs were better before Carroll and Korver got hurt. It's no excuse. The Cavs are banged up and are missing players also. The Wizards best player missed 3 games in the last round and the hawks still barely got by them when Carroll and Korver were healthy. This team just isn't that great dude. It's a pretender just like the Steve Smith and Joe Johnson teams.

I'm not overly excited about the 15th pick. Just look at how the Payne pick panned out last year.

Most of the Hawks best players are in their prime... And honestly, Millsap and Korver have never been known as being that great in the playoffs. Teague has been somewhat he usual self in that you don't know what you're going to get from game to game. Sometimes he plays hard and sometimes he doesn't. Carroll had a great run in these playoffs.

I don't think this core is going to do much better than what it has done. You need players that can make plays when things get tough and the Hawks just don't have many players that will do that. This team really isn't better than the 1997 and 2009 teams. A different brand of ball might be promoted, but the results are going to be the same.

This was the easiest path to the finals and they failed. I mean, the Nets and Wizards were both mediocre all season long. The Cavs really aren't that great either. If Orlando lands a good coach, they will be a force very soon. The Bucks are up and coming... George is coming back next year. Chances are that Cleveland will be better next year.

You know what this team is likely to do? Come back next season with their draft pick and maybe another bench player. We'll see about this team being an attractive FA destination. I'm betting that not that much has changed. I'm betting that the Hawks will still have a lot of trouble signing free agents. The Hawks shitting the bed in this series is not much different than how they've went out of the playoffs before. Looking like a weak stepping stone.

I'm going around on message boards and people are laughing about this team just as they have before. It burns me up, but it is what it is.

Some of us were optimstic especially with the success with had last year with bottom 5 talent. So our success this year was a suprise but it wasn't unfounded.

I want people to stop laughing at this team. And despite the 60 win season, people are still laughing.

I admit that I don't care about what people think about most things... But I'm insecure about this team. It annoys the shit out of me when this team goes out like this and people start laughing.

Caring about what "everybody" thinks of you usualy results in mediocrity at best.

The Hawks have a great year, and the type of people who'd you want think about us, usualy think more than good of us. Catering to idiots and opportunists is just dumb and a waste of life-time.

I want to add that when I say the team "failed" I mean a championship contender. If people are satisfied with the results, I don't want to tell them that they're wrong. Techinally the team got further than they have before. People have the right to be satisfied with that.

Agreed. This is a good team. A great regular season team. But they don't have the talent to win pass this point. We are like the Pacers of last year but even further from them because they do have an legit ace in PG. We don't.

Signing Monroe and moving from Sap isn't going to get us that much closer but it's a competitive adv.

Resigning DMC won't get us that much closer but it's a competitive adv.

It's trading Jeff for the 6th/Nik S or Mac that would really help. Improves talent off the bench and players we can develop into stars in time.

It's drafting Kaminsky at PF in the teens. Someone who can give us a matchup adv. It's Edy who can give us 10-12 mins and an match-up adv. It's signing a PG who is a decent vet.

We probably can't legit contend next year but we can get closer with some good moves. We must take away our weaknesses that can be exposed. We must get talent that we can develop that have legit talent. No more freaking Bazemore and thinking they can turn into Demarre's.

We got to get legit young misused talents or young talents.

Boston is trying to sign LMA and Matthews.

NY is trying whatever to improve.

Best believe wherever we trade Jeff to is going to try to sign Millsap in FA. I put my money on it and for the max. I wouldn't be suprised if someone offer Paul the max especially Detroit.

Teams need that 2nd tier piece and Paul is just that for teams that need a stretch 4.

I was reviewing the NBA yesterday from top to bottom and we are going to be in a fight to retain our own players. Including Antić.

We really need to be creative.

We need to make sure we have a prospect to develop just in case DMC is gone.

We need to make sure we have a prospect to develop just in case age finally catches up to Korver who won't have much of an off-season this year like he normally does recovering from his ankle injury.

We need to be smart this off-season. This could start something that locks us into medricrities for years to come.

We should be proud of this team. Unlike other Hawks teams who lack the talent, we overachieved and got more out of them than expected. I am happy. All of us should be.

You mind otjer's opinions too much. Let them laugh.

Only Golden State and Cleveland are in better position than the Hawks right now. Let them laugh.

I would say maybe 6-7 teams are in better positions than us for the future. I would say we are in a position to break the ceiling. We need to upgrade our bench talent and our talent overall. We don't just need bench players like Thabo, we need bench players who could be stars with development. We need more Dennis's and less Bazemore's and I don't want to get rid of him, I am saying we need special talents and not so many specialists unless their phyiscal freaks like Edy or Kaminsky for his height, size and skill-set off the bench in spot situations.

I'm not saying he has to be fired. But people have too much faith in him. He is to Greg Pop what Lenny Kravitz is to Jimi Hendrix.

A RIP OFF.

I don't think his resting players helped at all. If anything, it put it in the players head that not all the games are important. The mindset of this team changed. When they were playing well they had the mindset that they were not satisfied... Later in the season we kept hearing that they "lost focus". That could be heard a pretty good bit.

I wonder what would have been had we had more intensity down the stretch. Hard to say if the resting hurt us or if we simply played above our heads in Dec/Jan and were going to come back to Earth anyway.

His love of Pero is not helpful. The Payne move turned out to be crap. There is nothing special about most of the Hawks draft picks at all. Dennis could be good, but I have a feeling that he could be the next Reggie Jackson. I think he has an arrogance and a selfishness to his game. If he gets a big head he could turn out to be a troubled player.

Hard to defend the Pero love fest but I don't have a problem with him in the rotation.

Payne turned out to be a crap pick and we flipped him for a likely first. Drafting only good players is best but if you miss then mitigating the damage is the right move. I think Dennis will be very good. Still excited about him.

When his came to shove, Bud could motivated the players... And they were unprepaired to handle or adjust to many players.

Not sure who this is criticizing.

The Kings are not making that trade nor does it make the team better. Smh

The Kings would absolutely make that trade. The ability to get an All Star level PG which they badly need and get rid of Nik (2.89 mil) which they are looking to do is a win-win for them. They are trying to contend. They might trade Mac/Landry in another deal or use the stretch provision Landry which would free up space to go after Millsap, Love or LMA. They want to keep Cousins, they must put a contender around him.

They have the money, get rid of Landry's contract and they can sign Sap to the max and get a decent vet SG or two of them and have the creditablity to sign them which they don't have right now without an overpay.

I saw nothing from Bud in these playoffs. I think he is a good enough regular season coach, but I don't think he can live up to what people think he is.

So you believe that regardless of coach, our team as constructed would have won 19 in a row, 60 overall, and made it to the ECF??

I don't know why he keeps saying that. Coach Bud has done well to me. Talent is the issue, not coaching.

Believe it or not, we are a championship contender.  We're in the final four right now.  IF Lebron gets injured tonight, we will probably be in the finals.

We are a contender in that sense but we aren't in reality.

We are more like the Nets of the East in 2000's but not as talented and better coached. The contenders really were the Spurs, Kings, Blazers and the Lakers at that time. No EC team was legit back then.

I really don't believe the Cavs this year are legit contenders. They just have Lebron that makes them better than pretenders any day of the week in the playoffs.

The difference from the Cadavaliers and Warriors to the 3rd best team is night and day. No other team is in the Cavs and Warriors class and for the future the Cavs have a healthy Irving,Varajo (power forward) and probably Love. The Hawks have only Dennis who could be an all star to get better. I don't see any of the other players getting better.

I think there are teams on Cleveland level in a playoff level like San Antonio, Memphis, LAC and Houston. We are closer to the Portland's, Dallas's and Chicago's of the world. We are great in the regular season but talent matters in the playoffs.

Muscala isn't going to get better? Bazemore isn't going to get better? Tavares isn't going to come over and get better? Everyone on the team isn't going to continue improving under this coaching staff?

That is laughable at best when you consider alone just how much the 27 year old Demarre Carroll improved in his two years' time here to the age of 29.
