He is for everyone

Don't be so sure. I bet there are some knuckleheads out there that would prefer Lamarcus or Love...lol...prolly a small percentage but still.

Marc Gasol is literally one  of the top 5-7 players in the NBA. If he comes to Atlanta, that's a game changer. He fits our system seemingly and he's an elite defender.

You can literally replace DMC with Fields and while we will clearly miss Carroll's dirty work and scoring ability in comparison to Fields, we can use the extra cash for someone like Gary Neal or Wayne Ellington. That should fill some of our weaknesses. We need someone with star potential in the draft on the wings. If it's Hunter, Oubre, RHJ or Dekker, we need one of them to develop.

No one in the NBA as far as front office ppl have LMA over Gasol. No one. If Gasol wants to come to your team, he will likely go.

Fields??? The guy that has zero 3 point shot anymore because of ulnar nerve damage at his elbow on his shooting arm? The guy who is worried about having to retire from the NBA this offseason because they still can't figure out what is causing his arm issues in the first place and if it's going to continue to get worse? The guy who has been working on developing a shot with his left arm, with no luck yet, because of those worries?

How about no... This pace and space system doesn't work if you have a wing player that can create ZERO space. Espeically as a replacement for a darn good starter in DMC. Fields is an end of the bench defensive specialist at this point in his career. If Fields can figure out what's wrong with his arm this offseason, then sure; but it's been 3 years so far and I wouldn't bet on it happening now.

Why I'm your huckleberry that's just my game. I think LeMarcus gives us a go to scorer that had 20/20 games in the playoffs while needing surgery on his hand. I think we win game 1 and 3 with him on this team against the Cavs, because we don't gets smashed on the boards and we don't have 5 minute stretches without scoring.

Squawk's obsession with rim protection is funny since our whole defensive philosophy is to prevent at the rim shots. When the Hawks were at their best they weren't allowing people to get to the basket.

For me LeMarcus is clearly the better offensive player and Gasol is the better defender. Rebounding is basically a wash, but I believe LMA is the slightly better rebounder. I don't believe we ultimately lost in the playoffs because our D, we held teams to low 40 percent shooting. The problems came when teams over played our motion offense; it messed with our timing and we had no counter measures. Noone who could draw a double team.

With all that being said I'll take either, and I assume most sane people would.

I actually like LaCock a lot too. He would also be great in our system. Big man that actually has a better outside shot than Horford is rare in the NBA.

Ummm, yeah...did you even read either of those links you posted? Doesn't look like it, since they both bash the hell out of him.

He is a quick, athletic player who has the size to cover bigger guys (6-7) and the speed to cover smaller ones. Fields has always had a very high basketball I.Q, allowing him to  read plays and get in position. Admittedly, James Johnson‘s arrival to town probably hurt Fields’ chances of getting decent minutes, since Johnson is also a great defender but he can actually score.

Overall, Fields is a broken player. He can only play half of the game, even if he plays that half well. When he got to play, he worked hard, but his ceiling is extremely low.

Defence: A

Offence: D-

Overall: C+

And then comments from the "appreciation" thread, lol:

I feel bad for Landry. We overpaid for him and it's like we set expectations way too high, he couldn't possibly succeed. Then the injury that effectively ended his career. Yet, he always played and prepared like a professional.

I'd sign him on a minimum. He knows he won't get anything better elsewhere anyway.

Fields has been a real tragedy. The guy was a very, very good two-way player. Too bad his freak injury cut his career short.

don't let the door hit ya on the way out. I appreciate the fact that he stole 18 million from the Raps. You don't think he had the arm issue before he came here? He was hurt from the middle of his first season(look at the drop off). I wouldn't be surprised if Colangelo got half his money.

Ranks up there with the worst signings in Raptor history but he was a true professional.

I'm just happy his contract is over. I will continue to fap to pictures of his wife.

Sounds like a great addition to replace an awesome 2-way player in DMC...

/sarcasm.

However, after hearing the comments about his wife, I had to do some "research" for myself...<cough>  I'd be happy to have her around.  http://img.bleacherreport.net/img/images/photos/002/157/446/elainealdencdnl.complex.com_crop_north.jpg?w=600&h=399&q=75

There was some positive quotes as well. Like him having great form and shooting with his other hand. Him playing great d and great off the ball which is what we do and something Toronto doesn't do. He is a good passer as well. A lot of good as well.

The game is about mismatches and when you compare the Hawks to the Cavs or warriors the Hawks don't have enough. Gasol would give them one the best centers in the game and solve a number of problems. I am not getting to excited the Hawks never get top free agents though.

If we could get Gasol and move Horford to PF we'd win a ring next year if the team was healthy.

It would mean not having sap and Carroll but I'd take my chances with Horford and Gasol plus whoever at sf.  You could probably still ugrade shooting guard because gasol wouldn't make as much as Carroll+Sap combined. It's painfully obvious the Hawks need to upgrade and just bringing in Tavaras won't do it. Hawks couldn't shoot a lick vs Cleveland's defense even a healthy Hawks team would come up short. My dream off season would be Gasol and upgrade shooting guard. It's probably a fantasy since the Hawks usually don't get big free agents.

I'm on the Marc Gasol bandwagon as well. Probably a pipedream, but it is the offseason and we can dream.

My assumption is that the band is all together next season and we regress some in terms of total wins, but if we are healthier in the playoffs we can at least make a showing in the ECF.

What people underrate in Marc's game is his leadership. I think there is no interior player with as much leadership as Marc's. The Unibrow is a better player but I think Marc is a better leader at this moment. He can take his team to the next level in both offense and defense.

I like Lamarcus but even if he's a great offensive player, Marc is a more efficient scorer and can organize an offense.

If we got him we could also become the best defense in the NBA.

The likelihood of resigning Carroll with Millsap is slim. We don't own his bird rights. His early bird rights are far below his actually FA value.

I liked Fields with the Knicks. I thought he died after that.

Still not getting on that Gasol Max train. If he had the post game of Zach then hell yeah, yet he'd rather pick and pop like Al when he's big as a house. He simply didnt make a big enough impact versus GS for my tastes. Maybe I'm wrong.

I just don't see him getting much better, which is the sole purpose of this staff. If it were possible for him to make a DeMarre or Sap-like jump in his play he'd be Shaq with a jumper, in which case I'd welcome him here on Kobe's contract, but that's just not realistic for an already All-NBA First Teamer. They may do some quickness, endurance, and hands work, everything else in his game is set. I believe he's gotten a lot of defensive recognition off the strength of his team scheme and Tony.

I wouldn't doubt that many on the board have probably watched him more than I have. Just never been overly-impressed with him. In a week's time the last two NBA Championship Teams will not have had a max salary on the docket. 10+ deep, that's how I'm rocking,

I guess I'll be over here by my lonesome. I'll patiently wait for the AD Train to stop. He and Steph are the only Maxables to me.
