While I hate this dude, the guy I eventually want Trae to transition to . . from a play type standpoint . . is Isiah Thomas.  But only if we have at least 2 other high level players on the team that can assume top scorer responsibilities from time to time.

Isiah, when he didn't have high level talent around him, could easily be the offensive engine of the team. But he didn't have many high level players around him to take the load off of him.  Once the talent level on the team increased, he was able to relenquish some of his responsibility to others.

During the championship years, regular season Isiah was able to play at a high level, but also somewhat coast through the season.  Playoff Isiah would have the energy to turn it up a notch when needed, and play at top level scorer level . . even takeover scorer level.

Of course, this is his legacy game. But Isiah rarely took over a game like this during those championship years.  He didn't have to.  But he showed, even on an injured ankle, that he could still take it over.  He had already scored 14 points in the quarter, before the ankle injury.

Trae definitely has Isiah's heart and desire, but not necessarily his consistency or smarts yet.  But Isiah didn't develop all of this until he went though multiple playoff wars.

Trae has proven that he can take over games.  The next level of maturity in his game, will be can he consistently play at a high level.  Maybe not MVP level, but at least a high enough level for this team to consistently win games, and have multiple 5+ game win streaks in a season that will see us start winning 50+ games.

If he and his teammates show that type of consistency, we'll get there.

Edit: Backstory of this game

Isiah.. gets credit for being a good defender but I can't put my hand on anybody that he's ever defended.   Seriously... Players wasn't passing out because of Isiah.   He played with a rough and ready bunch that called themselves the Bad Boys and by association, he was giving a reputation.

Correct.

Isiah's claim to fame, was that he could play the passing lanes well.  He was perennially top 10 in steals early in his career.  Even as he got older, he could still get those timely steals on defense.  He never made an All-Defensive team.  And he wasn't a lockdown defender in the least bit.

Hasn’t he been in the top 10 like every year after his rookie year? 😂

I thought it was implied by the thread, but I'm talking all time scorers not currently...where he is clearly elite.

That's a popularity contest.

When you go around calling yourself the Point god, people start believing it.   He's good... a great passer, an above average scorer especially in the midrange... but he doesn't lock anybody up without fouling.

No bro cp3 was legit in swiping the ball that ain’t got nuttin to do with popularity. So every year he was up there in steals was because the fans voted it in? 😂 That’s silly.

Had this since day 1. He’s got Zeke feel, and a Zeke chip on his shoulder. Clutchness.

The stories of the greatness of Jason Kidd should not go untold.

Shump said that when Kidd got to play with him, Kidd told him, I will get you 9 points more per game if you just run the floor.

The Trae that we know has been a great scorer and a PNR/PNP specialist.   IF Trae had that confidence on the fast break to tell other players, if you just run the floor, I will get you points....he'd be amazing.

Never mind me... just passing thru... just posting this here b/c it was the first thread where I could tell there'd be some Trae conversation, and it just so happened to pop up in my Twitter feed as I reviewed it just now..... thought it would be of some interest...

Given the small sample size, I'm kind of shocked by how consistently low these numbers are.  I would figure multiple people would have pretty good numbers given that we are talking about somewhere around 20 total shots.

Probably a lot of heaves and desperation shots off inbounds plays, not to mention your typical end of game iso step back bricks arent high % lol… I wonder how many of these shots are Trae floaters…prior to this season he was money every tome he got into the paint

He needs to get his floater back on form.  His struggles on that shot are the single most surprising part of his early season struggles to me.

Actually, this...

... was the most stunning part of that graphic, for me. No one else?

It is a 16 shot sample so it is surprising that LeBron was blanked but I’d expect extreme variation by individual.  The collective 24% or whatever of the group which rolls up to a larger set was more surprising than any one person, even James.
