Zach Edey Conundrum - Could Edey be the next great Atlanta Hawk or is he the next Cam Reddish

What gets me is that this is the hill you want to die on.  With all the mobile centers that have entered the league recently and the mobile centers that have yet to come into the league, you want to die on the hill of taking this immobile plodder and try to transition his game into a much faster paced league where spacing is far more important than it is in college.

Yeah, at this point you gotta just enjoy the pillow fights from the sidelines.  Then, if they die down, instigate a little so it kicks back up.

Not sayin that's what I'm doing but .... I'm jussayin. 😏

Yeah, but after awhile it just leaves a big mess to clean up....who needs that.

That's part of his movement.  He's slow at everything.  Even his pitching motion from that video was slow.  There is nothing fast about his game.  Decision making isn't fast.  His body doesn't move fast.  He changes direction like a cruise ship.

I don't see how you can't see this. It's clear as day he's moving very well in terms of pace and covering space for his size. I track times. Boban literally took 7.5 seconds to go end to end. Gobert 5.2. Edey who only sprinted from half court basically giving Gobert a head start finished at 5. This is what I am talking about and you refuse to listen. It's data, it's film. It's not lying to you.

I don't know why you can't see it. It's obvious and you can personally track it. Catapult has all of the tracking for Purdue and they are the top of the line.

https://www.catapult.com/blog/purdue-boilermakers-t7-basketball-technology-data-analysis

This is tracked. Him being an eyesore doesn't mean he's slow. The testing results, data, film, and metrics say otherwise.

"Are you going to trust what you see, or what I tell you."

I see him, he moves very well for his size. You see him, he moves poorly.

I track the data. Well, I don't agree, Supes. Okay, catapult tracks it to a T.

You don't have to believe me but stop acting as if I am seeing ghost when I am the only one doing much work between us.

as the designated tie breaker in this dispute, I have determined that @KB21 's arguments are more persuasive than @NBASupes arguments and therefore have ruled in favor of the proposition that Edey is an immobile stiff who will be virtually unplayable in the modern NBA.

So where is this catapult data?  All your link shows is that Purdue uses catapult technology.  Where is the data, and how does that data compare to Wemby and Chet?

They have the data for their internal use. Atlanta or any NBA organization can request it directly through Purdue. I can't get that information unless I directly work for a NBA organization in their analytics department or executive leadership board can gather it as well but they ask the analytics department to get the data.

They also have many sources for data they use as well. But nothing will be as accurate as Catapult data since they are working directly with Purdue. We been requesting this data for years from Duke. No shock, we drafted Duke players and strongly considered Lively last year. The data helps with a lot. Movement, health, motor, etc. Helps we have Brey who has a great relationship with Painter.

No one scouts just using the eye test because everyone's eyes are different. It's a collaborative effort these days. The Hawks been adopted this approach but many FOs in the NBA are as well. OKC made it legendary

So you are assuming that the catapult data on Edey is going to show what you want it to show.  I've known about catapult for years.  I've always been a big proponent of player tracking data.  The catapult data on Edey will not show you what you think it will.  His slow movements are not an optical illusion due to his size.

I get a chuckle when I see someone say "He's a great athlete for his size."  You are basically saying that his size is the reason he's slow.

It's literally saying he's a great athlete for his size.

If you familiar with football, think of the RAS

If you want Edey, then you are willing to sacrifice mobility, space, and pace for size.  That's the bottom line.

This is not true no matter how many times you say it.

Then his size is the issue.  Because he's not a great athlete when compared with Wemby.  He's not a great athlete when compared with Chet.  He's not a great athlete when compared with Evan Mobley.  He's not a great athlete when compared to Onyeka Okongwu.  He's not a great athlete when compared to Kel'el Ware.  He's not a great athlete when compared to Khalan Malauch.

What makes Wemby great is that he is 7'4 and can do things a 6'6" player can do on the floor.  Edey can't do that.  Edey is only comparable to other throwback bigs who are post oriented and immobile.

Wemby is not 300+ pounds. Wemby is 225 and was 207 as a prospect. That's a 80-100 pound difference.

We seen him v. Chet and Edey outproduced him and bodied Chet in 1v1.

Evan Mobley was 215 as a prospect. Nearly a 90 pound difference

The gap between OO and Edey in measurements is the same gap between Trae and JJ.

I won't even acknowledge an obvious bust.

Ain't many hoopers build like Malauch. If you want that kid, you need a top 3 pick in a super tank year.

Wemby is a generational talent. If Edey draft viability is Wemby, then it sounds like you think he should be the #1 pick

Once again, you are pawning off his lack of athleticism onto his size.  It's a "He's big, so he will naturally be slow" stance.

Is his size the reason he can't handle the basketball?  Is his size the reason he will struggle going from rim to rim in the NBA?  Is his size the reason he is a complete nonshooter?  Is his size the reason he has poor change of direction ability?

You want someone closer to his size?  He's nowhere near the athlete Joel Embiid is nor is he as skilled.  He's not as skilled as Joker.  Joker isn't a great athlete, but he offsets it with great skill.

Doesn't look like we'll get either of these players where the draft ended up, not saying hawks should or shouldn't go edey at 10 but it's probably not likely considering who will still be there.  Either way I think we're gonna have to draft size moving forward seems free agency is too hard to get size lately

Poor fluidity is why he lacks self creation skills

He does it faster than most of your favorite bigs

His coach doesn't want him shooting but he can shoot. He says he can and we seen the pre-draft stuff.

Poor Fluidity

If you read my scouting report, you would know this without asking for the 10th time.

I want Edey, that's who I want.

There are different type of athletes. Klay Thompson is not like Monta Ellis.

Edey is an off ball specialist in two categories.
