Anybody like the idea of us getting Travis Outlaw?

Was looking at the free agent listings and saw Outlaw's name there and thought hey that would be a great pickup for us in case childress decides to stay over seas. An if Mo opts out and we send marvin to the bench and start outlaw who's only 26 I believe that would be great. We will then have a solid SF that can rebound, play defense and be aggressive, oh and his shot isnt that bad either. Here's the problem how do we get him? I mean I truly dont see him going back to the Clippers and I wouldnt think he would mind to play with a team of our caliber. So I say we throw our MLE and whatever else to obtain him! or do you guys think he will be looking for a big contract?

Anyways I think this lineup would be very appealing to many:

starters

pg- Teague (bibby wont start next year and the ASG is anxious to see what young Teague is made of)

sg-JJ (assuming we keep him)

sf- Travis outlaw (this should take care of our SF problems assuming we sign him)

pf-J Smoove

c-horford

bench

pg-bibby (is ok with getting a reduce role plus i think him and J.C can make some noise off the bench)

sg-JC

sf-Marvin (marvin would be a great backup, i mean you haters on marvin would have to agree with that)

pf-joe smith (hopefully he stays)

c-zaza (if we cant get anybody else better)

I like Outlaw, but I don't like what I have heard about his injury.

he broke his foot which is bad but i would still take him! that foot would be healed by training camp comes if it isnt already.

As someone who has watched most Blazers games for the past 3 years (ever since I started dating a Portland native) - NO.

Trust me, there weren't many tears shed when he was traded.

I don't think anyone is asking him to be a savior. We just want him to score more than 2 pts a game and not be a liability offensively most of the time.

If we get outlaw we get a defensive player, a rebounder and a ok offensive man who does play aggressive and can make impact. To me thats alot for this team! we could really use this guy. he cant possibly want too much mu-la so lets hope we grab him before someone else.

Did you really just call him a defensive player and a rebounder? He's a lazy defender and a TERRIBLE rebounder.

6 rebounds per game per 36 is far from TERRIBLE at the SF position. If he is a terrible rebounder so is Marvin.

ok but he dont give up on plays and he's far more aggressive than marvin! i say we still go after him.

i did..he's a decent defender. i mean we call mo a defense specialist atleast thats what the hawks organization will tell us but yeah i think outlaw is pretty good defensively.

from draftexpress.com

Defensively, Outlaw provides energy with his weak side shot-blocking and his ball-thievery. He’s not a thick-bodied player, so he relies more on timing to challenge larger players, but as a wing defender he is very effective both as a team defender and in man situations. An energy player, Outlaw feeds off the situation on the court and will turn up the intensity when it’s called for. He is capable of harassing an opponent into giving up the ball when his mind is set on stopping his man from scoring in isolation.

i have seen this man play he can defend trust trust me, i mean im not saying he's ron artest, g. wallace, shane battier but he is very decent when guarding his man! a solid defender, far better than marvin but then again i dont think marvin defense is horrible when he's actually trying but thats just my opnion

Outlaw has spent more time at PF than at SF during his career. The one year where he did play more time at SF, his Rebs/36 dropped to 5.3.

Please, ask a Blazers fan about that sometime. Seriously. And you left out some parts of his draftexpress profile:

Has the length and lateral quickness to be a menace on the perimeter, but has only been to take advantage of that in small doses. Is largely inconsistent with the things he shows on the defensive end. Follows up one great play up with a terrible one, blocking shots and getting steals, but also falling for fakes and taking some possessions off. Isn’t always very aggressive when defending the perimeter. Doesn’t get low in his stance will let slower players beat him off the dribble periodically.

Outlaw is a solid wing but if we are going that route, I would rather try and steal Tony Allen from Boston. Allen is MUCH cheaper and plays with 100% effort every second he is on the court.

im for allen but doubt he will want to come to the atl

I'll take him, if not for any other reason, he burned the Hawks many a night when he was in Portland. They need to have an insurance policy in case Childress does opts for another year in Greece, which is very possible under his current deal ($7.3M Euros tax-free is like getting $13M+ here).
