Incredible win.

The Hawks were moving the ball around and getting assists. Ball movement is the key. Of cource, the two double-doubles from Al and Smoove didn't hurt. Crawford caught on at the end.

I must say i'm really impressed with Josh Powell thus far.

"Very ugly win tonight, but I'll take it."

So, how then would you describe Orlando's loss?

Ugly as well, there were no winners tonight, only a loser, the game of basketball. You can't tell me either team played well.

Actually (IMHO) the first half was poorly played....the second half was a defensive battle of wills. Both teams were working their arses off on D and that often leads to poor shooting.

Bottom line is - we're 1 and 1 against ORL at their place.

Headline on Yahoo:

Josh Smith (often) helps Hawks knock off Magic

(just kidding with the 'often' part!)

The Magic, who were missing point guard Jameer Nelson (stomach flu), made it close, but couldn’t get a defensive stop when they needed it in the final minute.

On the Bibby three at the end following the timeout...........

What was the LAST thing the defense would have expected the Hawks to do in that situation? Exactly what they did. Kudo's to LD!

That play was obviously planned. Very decisive. No hesitation on Bibby's part in taking the shot. No surprised look on his or anyone's face afterwards.

No opposing coach would have ever prepared it's defense for a three-point shot, early in the clock --- from a team in the Hawks' situation at that moment.

Ingenious! And would still have been even if the shot hadn't fallen.

Just think about it.

You're on the road.

You're not likely going to get any borderline call to get to the line.

Their defense is obviously set to guard against anything ---- other than one totally unexpected thing.

You only need one open look (any open look) for a chance to finally get a monkey off your back.

That's how you do it.

Yeah, Woody woulda told Joe to dribble down to the last sec and either pass it out to Josh Smith in the corner or take one of those late game contested floaters that almost never go in.

Not for nothing, but there has to be a little asterisk next to this win from the Magic's perspective because they clearly were playing without energy (which is what happens when a third of the team has gastroenteritis). Stomach bugs are nasty.

That being said, the Hawks shouldn't care whether Orlando was healthy or reeling. They just beat them without JJ. It was the first win of the year against a playoff-bound team. That should give them a lot of confidence going forward.
