Once again, we may have missed the boat.

JThompson = 22/14 against the Wiz.

"Jeter scored six points to go with three assists in the second quarter on his way to 13 points and a game-high nine assists. Both are season highs for the 27-year-old rookie.

The Kings outscored the Wizards 33-18 in the second quarter and cruised from there.

"We really got an injection of energy from Pooh Jeter," said Kings coach Paul Westphal. "I thought we had a lot of good performances, but I thought that he stood out because of how he got us running at both ends."

That's what Jeter does best. He entered training camp in good shape and looks to pressure the ball on defense and play at a fast pace on offense.

The Kings have said they want to be a running team, but until recently, they hadn't shown they can do that.

Jeter has been a big reason that has changed lately.

"We're a young team just ready to run," Jeter said. "Once we continue to work on things like taking the ball out a little faster, then we can really run."

The up-tempo game suits several Kings who played well with Jeter. Jason Thompson scored 10 of his 22 points in the second quarter with Jeter.Thompson grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds and clearly is a better fit in a fast game. He also made 10 of 15 shots. Beno Udrih scored a game-high 23 points.

Thompson said Jeter always encourages the Kings to play fast.

"(Jeter) always tells me if I take the ball out on a free throw or on a made basket to look for him and push the ball," Thompson said. "If the defense is on their heels, you can push and look up at guys or make a play for himself."

"Thompson might be worth a look in some fantasy leagues as he develops into a heavier role of late. The forward scored 22 points on 10-for-15 shooting with 14 rebounds and added two block shots. However, his minutes may drop with the return of Samuel Dalembert, who missed Wednesday's game, still away from attending the funeral of longtime Philadelphia Inquirer writer Phil Jasner."

Teague had 24 points and 15 dimes in the season finale last year so he's obviously capable of putting up big numbers as well. Marvin had a 26 and 9 game last year also so let's see Thompson do it on a consistent basis before we start freaking out please.

Sund would have looked really smart had he pulled the trigger on that trade and Bibby sprained his ankle the next day getting out of the shower or his wrist issues flared back up. Bibby is a jammed finger away from being ineffective. If his shot is off he is almost worthless.

Bibby is an aging PG who with a lot of wear on his tread. Depending on him as the only PG on the roster is insane.

I'm assuming Sund looked at the deal but was unable to find a follow up trade that would have netted us a veteran PG.

It's amazing the amount of hate that Thompson is getting. The lengths that some people are going to tear down a 6'11" 250+ pounder who has proven himself in this league in favor of our "backup pg" is astounding. I'm trying to figure out how this team has managed to do anything with the supposed "backup" to our aging crickety PG barely even playing in games, surely there has to be some other player that is actually operating in that capacity over this and the last season. Can't figure who that could be though.

Yup. Like Teague or not, he is the only other bona fide PG on the team besides Bibby. Yeah, yeah...Crawford is basically our backup PG right now. But make no mistake, Teague, even with as little as he plays, still has some value to us--albeit little--as a backup [better] defensive PG.

What ?

Look at the first thread that this trade was brought up in. You'll find plenty of "oh he's a PF" (one that is taller and bigger than any we've got and equal to one of our centers). "His defense is atrocious" (it's comparable now to Zaza's and Powell's but historically has been better) His shot selection is terrible (over 55% since he's gotten PT again) He can't get PT over Darnell Jackson (Yea King fans love the coaching strategy of one Mr. Westhphal who also thought it fine to start Carl Landry at SF)

The fact that anyone can argue a Teague for Thompson trade as being anything but a slamdunk for us is seriously hating on the guy. Our PG rotation is 3 deep with Teague being the 3rd option, period. You could pick up a Dontell Jefferson or Kyle Weaver from the DLeague to fill in that role without the need for a future trade. Thompson from the moment he arrived here would be the primary backup at both PF/C but apparently our 3rd PG trumps that with the hypothetical of of having a bad taste in our mouths if Bibby went down. Meh.

The difference between some D-Leaguer and Teague is that Teague has shown flashes in the NBA of being a legit PG and still has a load of potential. It's easy to forget that he barely played in his rookie year and we're still very early in only his 2nd season so it's far too early to give up on him. We aren't saying that production wise you don't make this trade what we're saying is that we're not crazy about trading our potential future starting PG for a guy that would at best back Josh Smith up. Now if you want to trade Marvin for him and then move Smith down to the 3 hole I could possibly see that argument being made since Marvin doesn't offer much, if any, hope for becoming a better player than he is, but you don't give up a young PG with as much potential as Teague has without getting a PG in return.

So did Salim, so did Acie but we were smart enough not to hold on to them forever waiting on them to become actual PGs. read: Just because you happen to be underneath 6'4" does not mean you were meant to be a PG. Teague's pg abilities are rather dubious because he has demonstrated them only in low pressure situations, read: garbage time allstar. With the Joe signing I think it should be clear to you that we are no longer a team that can wait on a guy to maybe be a decent backup but rather need guys that can start now or play significant roles off the bench, I don't see Teague doing either in the next two years.

I'm not advocating waiting on the guy forever but he's a lot younger and less experienced than Salim and Acie were so I'm willing to give him a little more time, especially considering we've seen him play well in spurts this year and he had that huge game last year that neither Salim nor Acie could ever dream of having. I doubt he'll ever develop into an All-Star PG but at the very least he should be an adequate to quality starting PG for a team like ours that doesn't rely on the PG dominating the passing.

Teague has shown almost nothing in his career. He can't shoot AND he is not a real PG... He has had what, 2 or 3 games his entire career? He clearly doesn't belong in the NBA just like Acie Law didn't.
Teague is trash straight up.. his flat foot jumper is not helping the hawks why cant we find a decent backup PG. the nuggets took Lawson and we took Teague. if u compare Teague to Lawson, Lawson is 10 times better player
Did anyone see the college game live where Teague destroyed Lawson? How did that happen? I just saw the youtube clip.

The Wolves stole Lawson for the Nuggets and we settled on Teague. Just a fix. Not taking Beaubois or Collison or even Maynor or Douglas is another matter altogether.

Not to hijack the thread, but a side question bugging me. When was the last time Sund traded players in mid-season? I'll assume it's during the Sonics tenure, but how far back (Allen/Payton '03?) I have no proof, but I get the feeling that Sund prefers not to pursue personnel moves during the regular season unless his team is totally tanking. Please correct me if I've forgotten an in-season Hawk trade with Sund at the helm.
