The Official Off-season Wishlist Thread

Right now, I see that we have:

Jeff Teague- A raw combo PG who has a ton of talent and potentially can be a very good player. Kevin Johnson like player. Off the charts type speed. A potential franchise player in two to three years.

Joe Johnson- A top 3-4 SG in the NBA and is a very good player. Under a HUGE contract that's not favorable for Joe. High BBIQ

Marvin Williams- Questionable motivation. Basketball is not important to him. Talented and athletic and when he cares could be a MAJOR glue guy. Coordination??? High BBIQ

Josh Smith- The most talented Hawk. Is VERY talented and a very good player. Has more flaws than anyone in the NBA at his talent level. Could shed 10-15 pounds. Good defensive awareness. Awful offensive BBIQ. Elite help-side defender. Very good court vision. Solid passer. Good rebounder. Great dunker. When in shape rare athlete. Coachable??? Willingness to listen??? Fundamentals???

Al Horford- The Hawks best player. Can't create his shot. Above average in the post for face-up game. Average back to the basket game. Elite PnR PF. Very good man and team defender. Solid helpside defender. Very High BBIQ.

Jamal Crawford- Excellent 6th man SG. A chucker. Has a lot of offensive talent and can score efficiently. Amazing one on one offensive skill. Above average athlete. Horrible PnR and off ball defender. Below average man defender and low BBIQ.

Zaza- Very good offensive rebounder. An enforcer. skill? athleticism is average. Doesn't have the talent to be an everyday starter on a playoff team. Good backup center and adds toughness.

Kirk Hinrich- Solid combo PG. Can score a solid rate. Is a very good defender. Not the solid athlete he used to be. Very high BBIQ. Willing to do what's being told.

Jason Collins- Excellent position on defense. Good post man defender. Solid jumper. Awful athlete, rebounder, offensive player, PnR defender, and post up player. Very High BBIQ

The rest aren't worth mention.

Larry Drew- Average coach. Really came into his own in the playoffs. Has very good potential as a HC and could become elite given the personnel.

The Hawks current roster is a mixed bag. Too many guys who don't fit who play key roles. No superstars. Lack of depth. They need a serious upgrade. Here is my wishlist.

Resign Jamal Crawford to a 4 year 26 million dollar deal. In the first week of Free Agency.

Make a blockbuster trade. Chris Paul/Okafor/Jack for Josh Smith/Teague/Hinrich/Zaza deal. This could be done once the CBA is done if New Orleans has him on the market by then.

Chris Paul- Elite playmaker, PG, player, court vision, and passer. Good defender. Very quick. Amazing ball handler. Very High BBIQ. Very good athlete. One of the most impactful players in the NBA. Can rebound at a high clip.

Emeka Okafor- Very good man post defender and team defender. Good help-side defender. Solid athlete. Undersized center. Average footwork. Average PnR player. Can score easy baskets. Very good rebounder. Excellent fundamentals. Very High BBIQ. Strong. Average offensive player. Not an impact player. Motivation issues before last season. Not a specialist.

Jarrett Jack- Very High BBIQ. Average offensive player. Solid defensive player. Great teammate. Plays his role. Not an everyday starter on a playoff team. Very Aggressive and competitive.

I personally understand we are officially over the luxury tax. Because ASG has MADE the commitment to pay over the luxury tax, we should look at some of these players who are LLE and MLE players.

Reggie Evans, Chuck Hayes, Nazr Mohammed, Josh Howard, and Mickael Pietrus are on the top of my wishlist. We have a major issue at backup front court and need a 15-20 min guy. We also have issues at SF. Backup and starting. We need to sign someone there as well.

Here is my take.

Sign Reggie Evans 4 years 16.5 million. MLE

Sign Josh Howard for 1 year 1 million. LLE

Resign Jason Collins-min and Hilton Armstrong-min.

Reggie Evans: Diesel's favorite player and one I actually like. He's an extremely tough player. Not skilled whatsoever. Average BBIQ. Rebounding specialist. Brings his all every time he's on the court. Poor man's Dennis Rodman.

Josh Howard: He's a shell of his former self. Like Marvin not very motivation since being traded from Dallas. Still skilled. Can score and shoot with relative ease. Can defend at a solid clip. Understands his role. Average BBIQ. We could see him become a solid player again on a contender which we would be if we landed CP3. I think guys like Marvin, RJ, and Howard only work hard when eyes are on them. On a contender, you have expectations from a leader, on teams like the scrub teams and the Hawks who do not have a leader. No expectations whatsoever.

This roster is one of the smartest and most talented rosters in the NBA with a solid batch of role players off the bench. Much is expected from Marvin and Josh as well. Horford is the expected breakout player. Funny since he's a two time All Star and an All NBA performer. CP3 should be CP3 and Joe should be Joe but much more efficient. Same with Jamal. Okafor fits much better next to Horford than he does next to West. This team should win 55-65 games next season. Depending how fast they gel.

I think the Hawks need a new leader. Like it or not, the best player on the team is often regarded as the leader by his teammates and the character and disposition of that player many times affects the personality and identity of the team. I think Joe Johnson is a really good player, but he's not a leader and I don't think he wants to be and that's a big problem. Sure he wants the most touches, the most shots and for the offense to run thru him, but when it comes to challenging and pushing his teammates to be better and displaying a "let's get after it" attitude, he passes and he's seemingly indifferent. The Hawks may not be able to trade Joe and I not saying they should. But, I think the identity and attitude of the team would benefit from having a guy who not only wants to be recognized as the best player, but also embraces the role of being a leader and a fierce competitor rather than a guy who doesn't or has an indifferent attitude towards it.

It's sad, but this is a common mentality when it comes to the Hawks. It's part of the reason why so many show up to games and cheer for other teams' superstars instead of for the Hawks.

I care about winning titles. I look across our roster and look at possibilities and needs. I use my contacts to see if their is any interest or major interest which sometimes or most times for the Hawks isn't the case. This team roster isn't like Memphis. This team has guys who will never be #1 options. Only Jamal can truly say he's a real #1 option but he was that for scrubs so....

As for Lebron, it was a fan idea by myself, I never said anyone outside of myself believe it would happen and I never believe it would happen. I just said bring him home, made a thread or two, had a Lebron JPEG in my signature and that's it. Melo had some interest in Atlanta, not major as now noted. Same could be said with Dwight Howard but in this sport, some interest is like playing NCAA Football and your interest meter is at 60% and Ohio State is at 100%. So in reality, the interest doesn't equal anything of substance. I did not say anytime that we were going to get Melo as a fact. Just that interest is there. As for other stars, who have I mentioned. You say I am obsessed with superstars, I am obsessed with winning in all aspect of life. From my workplace, to my choice of women, to my personal appearance. 2nd place is just a 1st place loser unless 2nd place puts me in position to be 1st place in many different regards.

That's enough on me, this is the Official Off-season Wishlist thread. You can tell us what you wish for but no, you cannot sit on my leg.

By the way, you live in Philadelphia. The attendance issue is awful there. Much worst than here and their excuse is we have no one to go see like we did with A.I. or this team can't win it all. Sounds familiar and they had A LOT more historical success than the Hawks.

I'd like to give it a go with some/most of the core from this team, but upgraded.

new sf who can hit open shots consistently and spread the floor for JJ and teague. (trade marvin as part of the josh/al deal hopefully)

al/josh (leaning towards al, not convinced that josh wont frustrate the hell out of me still. I'd feel much better betting on Al to become the more productive consistent player)

new properly sized C with a low post presence who is at least semi competent offensively

I'd let Jamal go. I just can't trust him in crunch time to make the right decisions (bank shot game winning threes still frighten me). I'd prefer someone a little more consistent and less of a chucker, even if they lack the availability to catch fire the way jamal can occasionally.

I'm not sure about the rest of the bench though. We definitely need a little more consistency off the bench. Kirk could be a real asset off the bench to come in and keep playing a smart game and hit open shots. Though his salary may be a bit high for a 6th or 7th man and he may feel like he's still starter material.

I'd prefer to see a solid, smart team without a big superstar and see how we can do. Afterall, we were 2 games away from the conference finals with Al playing horribly, josh taking terrible shots (with the exception of a few games), marvin being pathetic, joe not shooting particularly well, and teague starting consistently for the first time in his career. Hell, even with Rose on Chicago, some of the espn writers were saying the hawks, with how teague was playing, had the more talented backcourt. That is something we can build on.

I don't understand contracts at all btw, so I'm not sure what would acttually work.

and where are you getting this info? I heard from no sources where CP3 wants to go or that N.O. has wanted Teague for "months"
