Hawks in the Carmelo race?

Bud would have to be a dam good coach to win a title with Melo. I just cant see that guy in our offense. You know how you heard POP during the finals talking about the ball not stopping, well it stops at Anthony.

Honestly, yeah, he's not coming here. Lebron is the one we have a shot at.

Breh, he's not coming here either.

We've been through this dance before. No top flight free agents are coming here. We're one of those teams that must draft well and make good trades because we aren't a top tier destination. We should be given how popular Atlanta is.

Blame the Hawks' history of bad management and mediocrity if you want something to blame.

The Hawks will be used as leverage by yet another top tier free agent(or free agent to be in this case). This is nothing new. He will sign with some 'major' market team and that team probably won't be much better than they were the season before because he will be used the same way he was used in New York. I'm tired of seeing the same things happen over and over again at this point. How many times does this have to happen before the Hawks realize they will have to draft their superstar???

I'm thinking smokescreen here but it sure is nice even getting some sort of mention, even if it is a footnote regarding Lebron and Carmelo.

This kind of stuff makes me think Danny is doing it as a distraction to the media while he is looking to make other moves behind the scenes. Carmelo is great and would help us a lot but I think Ferry/Bud are going for fit and I just don't see Carmelo as a fit unless he's willing to change his game to fit our system.

To me, Carmello is a superstar in name only. All-star, yes, but not superstar in terms of on-the-court production.

You get a guy like Lebron or Duncan, you think: now we have a legit chance to win a championship or at least get to the finals, because this guy has done it before multiple times. (Of if you draft a guy with a rep like that, you're still blissfully ignorant and optimistic that he'll be the next so-and-so.)

You get an established guy like Carmello, though, and you think: hopefully we'll at least make the playoffs, unlike Carmello's Knicks last year. Or if we're lucky maybe we can get to the second round, like Carmello has done only TWICE in his entire career.

With that being said, I do think we could use a scorer at the SF position, and Melo is certainly that - but is he the kind of scorer we need in this system? Would he buy in? And does he add anything defensively? I'd be intrigued to see how it turned out if we got him, and certainly we could use the bump in national interest, but I'm not sure I wouldn't prefer looking at other options first.

I hate to bust bubbles but I think it's obvious that melo and lebron are going to go to the same team and be a big two with good role players around them and leave wade, bosh, and the Knicks in the dirt.

I wouldn't totally rule out them conspiring to bring Melo to Miami. It's remote yes, but still a possibility.

I'm actually rooting for them to somehow conspire to get Melo to Miami and snake Wade out of town. Yeah, yeah, yeah I know that won't happen but I think it would be glorious.

And then they still don't win so Melo doesn't get a ring - Cherry on top, lol. Edited by JayBirdHawk

Good Lord that's awful. Gut the entire team and amnesty Horf to sign 2 guys that play the same position?

EDIT: no offense

It's meant to give you an idea about what bringing LeBron/Melo would involve for the Hawks...I'm not suggesting we do anything from that article.

No need to apologize or say no offense either. If it sucks, it sucks and you should say so. I do that all the time on the internet, not necessarily saying things suck but just being frank with people. So I appreciate if others show me the same courtesy of being honest.

Awful post.

By my estimation... It would take a package of either Lou/Sap or Lou/Horf to get NY's interest and help the cap.

Unless of course, he just wants to sign here and leave about 70 million on the table.

That would do it...

Melo signs a 1 year 8 Million dollar deal... after we stash Saric overseas.

Horf/Sap/Melo/Korver/Teague.

We can hardly lose with that.

Melo is that post up 3 that we need.

Melo is never going to win anything as the best player on a team.

Concering "iso melo", that doesnt fit the system etc.

Look at what Dallas does with ISO Dirk and its Flow Offense. It can be an addition to a high passing offense to have a good ISO player. Like when you find out on allot of plays your not the Spurs and end up chocking at the end of the 24. To be able to get the hot potato to an iso specialist means many more points at the end of the day. Also the Hawks could just have a more varied game, being less predictable, and also more adaptable vs different kind of opponents.

Of course Melo needs to adapt to this, but really how many times does he want to claim most PPG? How many titles does he have? If Melo makes that step going to Atlanta, it will be for all the right reasons, knowing he comes to a balling team that wont allow to be imploded.
