Goots
Pero should not be on any NBA roster. He does nothing well. Brand, Muscala, and Payne should be playing before Pero ever gets in the game. budenholzer needs to get a clue.

AUhawksfan
Payne needs to hurry up and get some minutes so this guy can permanently be planted on the bench. I've never seen someone pass up so many open opportunities either, the guy just doesn't play with that much confidence.

Can't blame him for not being confident when he pretty much misses everything.

Colin
I mean, many of us were skeptical when he got signed whether or not he would be able to contribute in the NBA. He looked a bit slow and way too perimeter-oriented even in his highlight tape. Now we are seeing what happens when he doesn't have confidence in his shot-- he often becomes a non-factor on the court. I'm bummed to see it though, because I like how he didn't back down from West in the playoffs. He seems like he has grown to enjoy the situation and his teammates here in Atlanta, and I have full faith that he would be one of the first to square up against somebody to protect his teammates. The European-mobster badass-ness can only go so far though; Pero: hit your shots. Edited November 13, 2014 by Colin
Guest
That one play was pretty bad where he couldn't find an open man so he launched a 30 footer ..lol..smh
NBASupes
He sucks but he's good at post defense, his team d is respectable and he doesn't give up easy points and he has range. He's useful but not good at Basketball. Less talent than Zaza but has useful skills that come in handy.
bird_dirt
He's useful but not good at Basketball. Exactly. Like he's useful for opening jars of pickles or grabbing things off the top shelf at grocery stores for old ladies.
diamond_dave
I'd rather give his minutes to Moose. He looked good last night for not playing so far
NBASupes
I'd rather give his minutes to Moose. He looked good last night for not playing so far Moose has far more talent but he's too wild. I see why Bud doesn't play him enough. The game is too fast for him right now. Once it slows down, he will be good and useful.
Moderators Popular Post lethalweapon3 Posted November 13, 2014 Moderators Popular Post Report Share Posted November 13, 2014 This will sway absolutely nobody, but I was a bit entertained by HawkShoop's Buddy Grizzard explaining how Antić can look so inept yet routinely wind up going double-digit positive in the plus-minus box scores. http://hawkshoop.com/small-sample-size-theatre-2014-edition/ Meanwhile, through five games, Pero Antić is a team-best plus-41. Antić is a walking statistical anomaly. Despite shooting 16.7% from the field and 12% from 3-point range during last season’s playoff series against the Pacers (his career regular-season averages are 41.6% from the field and 32.6% from three), Antić was a team-best plus-29. This season, Antić’s positive contributions come despite the fact that he’s averaging a meager six points and two rebounds per game. So why do the Hawks perform so well when Antić is on the floor? Is he a great rim protector? No, he’s averaging .2 blocks per game for his career. Does he create a lot of looks for his teammates? He creates a few, but he’s only averaging 1.2 assists for his career while also averaging 1.1 turnovers. I believe that Antić is such a valuable player because he combines the utility of a legitimate post defender with the value of a big man who can step outside and shoot the three. This utility was demonstrated in the second quarter of Saturday’s Knicks game (in which Antić was plus-21). During one sequence, Kyle Korver was guarded on the left baseline by Cleanthony Early. Antić was on the weak side, guarded by Samuel Dalembert, who was cheating off of him to help in the lane. As Korver made a move to the basket, Dalembert looked over his shoulder to track Antić and started to retreat back toward him. Since Dalembert took himself out of position to help Early, Korver was able to get a step on the rookie and put in a runner off glass. On the next play at the opposite end, Antić left Dalembert to cut off a drive by Iman Shumpert, who looped back out to the left wing. Antić immediately recovered to Dalembert, who attempted to post in the middle of the lane. Shumpert passed to Quincy Acy, who blew by Paul Millsap with a quick first step and headed for the basket. Once again, Antić left his man and set up outside the restricted area to attempt to draw a charge. Acy elevated, maintained body control and scored over Antić without making contact. It was a good drive by Acy, but the defensive work by Antić was nothing short of spectacular. Once again, plus-minus confirmed the eye test. Antić missed all three shot attempts in this game, scored only two points and pulled down two rebounds. Nevertheless, this sequence showed why the Hawks were able to outscore the Knicks by 21 points during his 18 minutes. Antić uses his extremely quick feet and elite defensive awareness to be everywhere at once. Grantland’s Zach Lowe wrote about Korver’s extremely high “gravity score,” a metric developed by Stats LLC to calculate how closely a player is guarded off the ball. Although Antić shoots around the league average from 3-point range, this is extraordinarily valuable in a front-court player. It exerts gravitational force on an opposing front court player who might otherwise prefer to cheat into the lane. Korver’s drive around Early toward a retreating Dalembert was a textbook example of this. Since that article, Pero registered a +10 at New York (second-highest on the team) and a head-scratching +17 last night (highest on the team). ~lw3

This is why I don't mind Pero starting even those he is not any good. He simply fits Sap or Horf better than Sap or Horf fit each other.
Afro
If pero actually took shots when he was open and otherwise generally kept his head low, I think he'd be a pretty good player. Which is surprising... He just looks so bad because the only time he shows up is because he's doing something wrong. Guest
Pero drives me crazy with his pump fakes and other stuff on offense. I always thought he was decent enough on defense. After reading that article I do understand why Bud plays him. His box score numbers just doesn't reflect how he helps his teammates.
