Should we have seen this coming?

Last year, was great.  We did historic things last year.

Fast-Forward to this year.  Should we have seen this drop in wins and great play coming??
  Here's the circumstances..

1.  Lost DMCthealltymegreat.  -  DMC was our glue guy.  He was that guy who would come in and pull guys together.  He also inspired guys off-court.

2.  Contract year for Horf. - Horf has felt underpaid and has been injury prone.  Any doubt that he would protect himself so that he could get into the money?  For those saying, he will turn it up in the playoffs, doubtful.  Him getting hurt in the playoffs and getting hurt in the regular season = Same thing.

3.  Korver coming off the chop block.  - When Dellavaduva cut Korver low, it killed out championship dreams.  Unfortunately, I don't know if Korver can get back to that level?  Moreover, the league has determined that as Korver goes, we go.

Now there are some good things.

1.  Sap is playing as well or even better than last year.

2.  Thabo is back.

3.  BazeGod is a dependable guy.

However, we're starting to middle... like a treadmill team.

Dieselputer... what's the fix.

The Dieselputer is incompatible with Budball so no fix that the Dieselputer could offer would be guaranteed to work with Budball.  Dieselputer says:  Trust Budball until Budball gives you a real reason not to trust it.

Some of the calculations that Dieselputer made in it's Wilkens'/Fratello Motion Mode were:   Find a three point shooter to replace Korver at the 3.  A quick fix is to trade for Trevor Ariza (good three pointers, more defense).    The second thing is to tighten up the rebounders.  Hasan Whitesides is the answer.   However, those are just notes from a computer that's not compatible with Budball 2.0.

I always liked Ariza but I think he's past his prime, Whiteside doesn't seem very intelligent to me.

I don't think Jeff taking a step back should surprise anyone.  His relationship with Bud is deteriorating by the day.

But hell naw I didn't think Al would be so selfish and pussyfooted.  I used to be more than willing to overlook his soft post-game becuase he had no flaws anywhere else.  Now he has taken 50 more threes than free throws having forgot about all the years he shot near .550.

As evidenced last night, unless it's someone softer like Pau Gasol he isn't interested in boxing out after historically being a very good rebounder.

And we miss Pero something awful, his screens were exceptional and integral to getting guys open.  Al's are saddening, he basically escorts his small PGs into traps while a third defender jumps the only passing lane available like clockwork.  When Pero or DeMarre set a screen, you saw defenders stop on a dime, flopping for calls and our guards with ample daylight to attack or fire.  The times we went late in the clock without any set success was minimal last year.  Our bread-and-butter last year was a wide open Kyle look with 10-7 seconds left becuase of all the parts moving in sync.  Now it's commonplace for Sap to go one-on-three with 4 seconds left becuase our starting center can't make sacrifices anymore.  I wouldn't count on Splitter to do anything but be long.

I expected Al to ball out in desires for his payday, like Sap did.  17 and 9 on smart, spirited play and loads of intangibles showing up on film isn't too much to ask, he did it for 8 years to this point. It seems more apparent that everyone on the team is compliant in allowing Al to take it easy on his upper body and coast for the dough.  I wouldn't have thought that in a million years.  He's taking the "Bawse" nickname too seriously.  More of a businessman than a championship-caliber PF/C nowadays.

Hell, he might as well just shut it down like Melo did.  Saving his body would be more valuable to possible new GMs than career-low numbers all over the place.  Defensive win shares look like sh$t compared to his standard.

Horford coasting because he knows he'll get a big payday pretty much based on his past history is sickening.

The big thing is put your best defensive player on Teague or Schröder because no one can initiate the offense other than him and Bazemore/Sefolosha and they can only do it a little.

My question is what purpose does it serve to allow Al to coast and then reward him with a max contract afterward?  Is it to give him a lifetime acheivement award?  He's not going to get any better or younger as a player.  And nobody of significance is going to come here to play with him while he's making more money than everybody else.  So I'm not sure what the rational is if that's really what's going on with Horf.

Who  the hell knows what's going on with Teague.  All I know is I never know what I'm going to get with him and it's frustrating as heck.  Will he be aggressive or won't he? Will he look like he cares or not? Will he play defense or not. Same with Al for that matter.

My expectations for these two were HIGHER than anybody else on the team just because of the point in their careers - Just disappointing so far is all.  And I'm not expecting some amazing transformation to their games just some level of consistency and 'want to'.

Unfortunately, this isn't even true this year.  We know EXACTLY what we'll be getting from Teague.  He has been consistently terrible all season.  He can't finish, isn't interested in fighting through screens, throws lazy passes, and makes boneheaded plays.  At least he's been strokin the three ball, I guess.

Huh? I'm talking about what my expectations were for Teague to start the season  up to now. I didn't expect this jekyll n hyde bull again, his rimpotense, lack of aggressiveness etc.

I was just saying he really hasn't been giving us too much jekyll lately.

Yeah I am starting to wonder why the Hawks haven't gotten a Ginobli like player by now for this system. As far as playmaking, I assume Korver would be second in command but his 3 point shot isn't like last season's and teams have figured out how to cover him.

We've just gone to the bargain bin on the bench.    Our starting 5 is good but there isn't a great player.  So we need to be much deeper to think about contending.    If we stand pat at the deadline we'll know that the goal is not a championship this year.
