Hawks in Sports Illustrated top 100

I'm not sold they're putting Clint up there. He's not a scorer and has limitations. Can't shoot, can't hit free throws. He rebounds like a mother but sites like SI don't always value that.  They should, don't get me wrong, but they might not. If anything he'll fall in 40-50.

Oooh, this smells like the makings of an avatar bet.

Before you answer, understand that sometimes these sites like to get cute4clicks and put a guy like Cap'n Clint higher than some think he should go.

Yah, like I said I'm not sold on it but I don't feel strongly enough to say "Oh Hells Nah!".  Clint looked bad in the Conference Finals and that's probably the first time the good folks over at SI watched him all year. That said, they probably stat watched and know he was tops in rebounds so its a toss up. Not something I'm willing to give up my stupid avatar for.  I'll save that for our bet over Spud giving up Gundam porn.

I'm basing my assumption on the fact that guys like Jarret Allen, Myles Turner, Ivac Zubac and Larry Nance are already listed...I'm taking the leading rebounder Clint over all these guys.

That's fair. I know the opinion of the league is Clint's numbers are inflated playing with Trae (both scoring and offensive rebounding). Trae draws a crowd and that creates lots of opportunities for Clint that any athletic big would get too (see Collins' drop in numbers when Clint took over the 5). No one says he's bad, just a bit inflated.

Clint is an analytical darling though so he'll be in the top 50.  If not, I'll be shocked.  All those defensive lovers will probably have him much higher because of his blocks, rebounding and offensive efficiency.

Agreed.  While I think you can have great debates whether Clint belongs in the top 50 or not, I don't think it is debatable that he is in the top 100.  Clint was #13 in Win Shares and #11 in WS/48 (among the top 179 WS players).  He was #13 in PER right above LeBron James and Rudy Gobert.  He is going to be in the top 100 and his absence from the 51-100 spots means he will be in the top 50.

Dang it, burd.  We almost had him (and his avatar) on the hook for an easy 'L'.

I'm not familiar.  Should I google that on my work computer or nah?

Impressive to see Hunter there, with being in and out so much.

The folks who really watch the game had to have noticed just how good he was before injury.

If he returns to that, I truly think we will be a force. My dream scenario is to have playoff Trae, late season Bogi, early season Dre, JC without foul  trouble, and regular season Clint all show up at the same time. That is championship level starting 5

ESPN TOP 100 is in:

No. 99: Danilo Gallinari Atlanta Hawks | PF

2020 NBArank: No. 85

One thing to watch for: Gallinari's 3-point shooting has been one of his calling cards since he entered the NBA in 2008 with the Knicks. With 1,314 career 3-pointers, Gallinari sits just 12 behind Mitch Richmond for 50th on the NBA's all-time list. Once he passes Richmond, Gallinari will become just the fifth member of the top 50 listed at 6-foot-10 or taller (Dirk Nowitzki, Rashard Lewis, Peja Stojakovic and Kevin Durant). -- Andrew Lopez

No. 95: Kevin Huerter

Atlanta Hawks | SG
2020 NBArank:
NR

One thing to watch for: Huerter proved to be a utility player for Atlanta during the 2020-21 season. He came off the bench and started as the Hawks shuffled lineups while dealing with injuries. In the playoffs, Huerter averaged 11.4 points in 10 starts (including 27 points in Atlanta's Game 7 win over Philadelphia) and 10.6 points in eight games off the bench. -- Lopez

No. 64: Bogdan Bogdanovic

Atlanta Hawks | SG
2020 NBArank:
No. 62

Cause for concern: Bogdanovic missed 28 games last season and didn't really find his flow with the Atlanta offense until later in the season because of the missed time. When he did find his way back into the starting lineup, he averaged 21.1 points over his final 25 regular season games. His numbers took a dip in the playoffs as he played through another injury, but if Bogdanovic is healthy, he provides an excellent No. 2 playmaking option behind Trae Young. -- Lopez

No. 55: Clint Capela

Atlanta Hawks | C
2020 NBArank:
NR

Swing skill: There's a case to be made that Capela is the best rebounder in the NBA. Capela led the league in total rebound percentage (23.0%) on his way to a career-high 14.3 boards per game. In his first full season with the Hawks, Capela also continued to prove that he was one of the top lob threats in the game, thanks to some well-timed passes from Trae Young. -- Lopez

No. 54: John Collins

Atlanta Hawks | PF
2020 NBArank:
No. 84

One big question: How will Collins' role continue to evolve? In 2019-20, he averaged career highs in points and rebounds, putting up a 21-10 stat line. But last season, as Atlanta acquired more scoring and Clint Capela started playing center more, Collins' numbers dipped to 17.6 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. But the end product was exactly what Collins and the Hawks wanted: wins. -- Lopez

LOL . . you just gonna hijack that man's thread like that?

The fact that Hunter is completely left out of the top 100 for ESPN, shows just how much they pay attention to the Hawks

. . . . unless they have him as a top 50 player.
