NBA GMs and coaches see him as an elite player. Quin literally said Marcus Smart is elite. What fans see as elite is raw stars and excitement. GMs and coaches see the game much deeper.

Yet no team with Marcus Smart as their best player would even sniff the playoffs.

It depends what you mean by best player. Some coaches and GMs may value what Smart does over what Jaylen Brown does.

Yes - he just won DPOY last year.  What does Quin saying this about Smart have to do with Al?

There's not a single GM that would build their franchise around Smart or Al and you know that.  Stop with the nonsense.

Al Horford is more respected and way better than Smart. Even old Al is still highly valued

We did and went to the ECF and won 60 games. Boston did with Al and went to the ECF with rookies and sophomores.

I have no idea what you are trying to connect with these statements in that Quin said Smart is elite.

The whole reason that Hawks team was blown up is because their ceiling was never going to win a championship.  That's what you get when you build around solid players that aren't elite stars.  Like AL

Bud wanted Al back at all cost but Tony was like, let's get D12 and if Al wants 5 years, I am out. Turned out to be a disaster. Bud quit shortly after

There are a handful of superstars in the NBA in any given era.  You had Magic, Kareem, LeBron, etc.  Guys who are mere All-Stars aren't close to superstars.  No NBA coach has picked Horford as an All-Star in 5 years.  He isn't in the conversation for superstars.  Smart hasn't even made an All-Star team.  As much as Horford isn't in the discussion of superstars Smart isn't even good enough to fetch their water.

GMs had their chance at Horford.  Know how they valued him?

Quote

The Oklahoma City Thunder has acquired center Al Horford, the draft rights to guard Théo Maledon (selected 34th overall), the draft rights to guard Vasilije Micić (originally selected 52nd overall by Philadelphia in the 2014 NBA Draft) and a 2025 first-round draft pick from Philadelphia in exchange for guards Terrance Ferguson and Danny Green and center Vincent Poirier

Remember the other superstars who got traded WITH A FIRST ROUND PICK for guys like Danny Green, Terrance Ferguson and Vincent Poirier?  No superstar ever.  Injured or not.  No superstar gets moved for a poo poo platter like that.

NBA GMs could have had him for free.  The first round pick had more trade value than Danny Green et al at that point.  They didn't want him for free.

When the Celtics acquired him they dumped a broken down Kemba Walker (he played only 46 games after that before retiring) as a salary dump and gave up a single first round pick to get him.  Remember the last superstar who was traded for a single late first round pick? No superstar in NBA history.

You are just redefining the words here so they lose their meaning in an attempt to puff up Horford.  He is an elite "role player" not superstar.  Like Marcus Smart.  Don't use the word "superstar" in connection with either of them.  Tatum is the only one in the conversation for superstar on the Celtics roster and he doesn't meet that definition if you use it to mean generational player ala LeBron.

You are using fantasy instead of facts here.  Horford is an outstanding player but he isn't in the conversation as a superstar.

We can do this with an old CP3 too. At the end of the day, Al does a lot more for winning than most of the 6-15 guys you have on your list.

Gonna go out on a limb and say there's no way to prove that claim other than "because Supes said so."

Chris Paul is in no way a superstar.  Al never was one.  He was a worthy All-Star at his peak and an elite role player.  Definitely a winner.
