In retrospect, how terrible was Travis Schlenk?

Lol this just isn’t true whatsoever. Tony wanted the guy people hyped in college for ticket sales. Travis wanted luka he even said he was gonna draft him in the opening presser. Luka had a list… Phoenix was on it, Dallas was on it. Sac Memphis atl weren’t on it.

Luka never had a list. He was willing to go to any team that drafted him

Tony wanted Luka the most. I got that from an extremely good source.

Anybody that is on here saying Schlenk is terrible has barely followed the hawks and has very little knowledge of what went on behind the scenes.

He hired an excellent developmental coach (who Trae has even said on his most recent pod was great for his development). Once it became time to win he made some great veteran signings that played a key part in the cf run. Unfortunately for him he got stuck in hiring a coach he never wanted because of the success and that run made ownership very impatient and they began taking control of moves. He drafted extremely very well and turned the hawks roster completely around in just 3 years. Nick ressler is who you guys should be blaming for doing moves that Travis never wanted like trading for DJ

I forgot to give my grade.  At worse, Travis' grade is a ( B ).

If the #4 pick in 2019 realizes that he is "The Master", maybe that grade jumps to an A-

Add drafting Trae AND getting a 1st round pick in the deal as part of the good.

Like it or not, the Atlanta version of the Hawks won their first Eastern Conference game in history with Trae leading the way. And like it or not, this team has seen a financial boon with Trae as the face of the franchise.

Signing Bogi and Gallo to accelerate the path for the Hawks was also a good thing.

And while the jury is still out on the kids, all 3 look to be solid players..

Agree with the contract aspect of Hunter and Collins.  Only guy better than Huerter from where he was picked at #19, was Jalen Brunson.  So I really can't call him a "meh".

Acquiring Dejounte Murray was good, but giving up 3 draft picks does sting.  It was still worth the gamble.  Let's see if we re-sign him or try to flip him during free agency.

Luka for Trae, until one of them reach another conference or NBA Finals, is a wash right now.

Cam was the correct choice at #10, but he just didn't pan out.

Slightly overpaid for JC.  Should've let Dre hit free agency this summer instead of locking him up.  We'd still have his Bird Rights and the ability to offer him the most money.  And we should've traded JC last year, if we were hell bent on trading him.  Could've received a much better return on investment.

Trading Huerter and JC for scraps isn't a championship level move.  It's a move for an owner who is penny-pinching.  Having said that, AJ only plays in College Park if Huerter is here.

Drafting Spellman was bad.  Schlenk was enamored with a big who could shoot, but really didn't have much of a skill set outside of that.  He's a superstar in Korea though.  3-ball looks as good as ever.

Lmao, you wanted Dre to hit this open market where Utah was willing to give 2nd to take on JC contract? Man, Dre would get 4/100+ offers in this marketplace. Are you delusional?

Well then we would just lose Dre, if that would've been his price tag.

To me, there's no way he'd get close to that number.  I definitely wouldn't be happy if Ressler paid 25 mill to retain Hunter.

Yep Acquiring Murray to turn an above .500 team into a .500 team was a great move! 🧐 Wait what?

We aren't a real .500 team without Murray. That COVID sped up season was fool's gold. The year after, we had a below .500 record.

Doncic for Trae:

What has Doncic done in this league that Trae has not?

Doncic: 28-8 on 47-34 1 WCF appearance 28 playoff games played

Trae: 26-9 on 44-35 splits, 1 ECF apperance 27 playoff games played

Doncic is really becoming a massively overrated player. He has ran every decent player and coach out of the organization. Trae had a "bad" season last year. I fully expect him to rebound and be a hands down All Star starter like he was the year before last.

The Murray trade is on the new front office. The fallout from that trade notoriously led to him leaving the team, as he was completely opposed to it and ownership overruled him. It was the beginning of the end of Schlenk as a member of the organization.

Reddish: Yes, a big miss. We could have had Cam Johnson or even PJ Washington, both of which would have been upgrades.

Huerter overpaid? It's one of the best contracts in the NBA. He is making less money than Eric Gordon and Tim Hardaway JR. Player at his range (16-13 mil) include, Luke Kennard, Malik Beasley, Luguentz Dort, and Gary Harris. All of which he is waaay better than.

Collins: Yes, yes, this one didn't work out at all obviously. It wasn't a bad contract considering his production and age at the time though.

Huerter Trade. Was not on Schlenk, this move was forced by the front office to stay under the luxury tax. Awful move, but again, not Schlenk's fault.

Hung on to Collins: Allegedly it was also the front office that rejected several trades Schlenk had proposed for Collins.

Drafted Spellmen: It was the 30th pick, 95% of those don't turn out to anything,. Bizarre to bring this up.

To me personally. The biggest mistake for Schlenk was the 2019 draft. The Reddish pick turned out to a total dud. And then turning the 8th and 17th pick into Hunter was also poor value. 2019 ended up being a very deep draft even into the second round so to go in with a whopping 6 picks and end up with just Hunter is awful value. There's been around 30 solid NBA players that came into the league in 2019 and we picked just 1 of them heading in with 6 chances.

It's easier to build around Luka and he is just a better talent than Trae. Both are likely drama queens behind the scenes.

Travis not a good lotto draft guy. He's better off picking in the late teens. Which is fine if you aren't getting lotto picks. He blew those.

Hunter is just a role player. A 15 PPG player in this era is nothing. He would have been a 10-12 PPG player in the past. Some defense. Not so good handles, he is inconsistent in terms of being offensive minded, he isn't that good of a rebounder or passer.

Cam was a bust.... Collins has been on the downside since his 2nd or 3rd year. He has gotten less productive as he has entered what is supposed to be his prime.

His peers think he's brilliant. He was a big part of the modern revolution. His work Trae's rookie year was stolen by so many coaches. Almost all of the creative stuff we had came from LP. He was more brilliant than Bud. Bud just miles better at coaching, communicating, shit everything because LP can't communicate as the leader.

His peers are dbags like Rick Carlisle and Pop.    their opinions are worthless.

If it's easier to build around Luka how come they have not done so?

Yeah, anyone that thinks our front office is bad should take a look over there lol... we're up in arms about a player who played horrendously being traded for peanuts when the Mavs let a legit all-star talent walk so they could then give away a first rounder to bring in head-case Kyrie -- and that's after a plethora of terrible moves the past few years.

Head case Kyrie balled out of his mind averaging 27-6 on 64% TS and they couldn't win a game. Worth noting Luka has been a driving force behind the Mavs moves, especially the Porzingis trade and the head coaching change. Very easy to build around!

LP will not SNIFF a head coaching gig ever again in his life.

He might not but it won't be from the lack of peer recommendations.

Got to love all the people who dismiss the lack of coaching aspect these young players have gotten during their Atlanta careers while making definitive statements on their ability and play to this point.
