Hawks starting PF? It can’t be JJ

Yall want him to start?

I need more this is like Chris Crawford in 99.

Given more minutes may not 🟰 better stats.

Crawford was largely the same player the whole time (granted he did shoot worse in 2000) in which case a big increase in minutes will mean a big increase in stats:

The problem for Crawford is that his minutes per game actually dropped off a cliff in the 1999-00 season:

If JJ plays significantly more minutes, he will see a sizable bump in his stats.  Whether he improves his per minute productivity is the real question.  Some view his 15 game run under Quin as a sign of things to come and if he sustains that level of performance it will be pretty good.  If he improves on that, it could be very good.  But development is not always a straight line so I don't think we can count on him taking big steps forward even though that is exactly what he looks primed for this season.  His 14, 10 and 3 per 36 last season wasn't bad given the stage of his career.  JC was 16, 8 and 1.

What type of production do yal want to see from an NBA starting PF who will be the 5th option if the roster stays as is?

We have been beat over the head fke years about not understanding the modern game and that teams do not prioritize offense from the PF position.

If we are going to knock JJ before he even gets a chance to prove himself lets at least be transparent about what we believe he SHOULD be able to produce.

For me, first year starting:

26+ mins per game (Bey will get a lot of run at PF)

>48% fg, >32% 3pt, >70% ft
10ppg, 6 rpg, >2ast, >1stl, >1blk

That would be solid production given his skillset.

Per 36 that’s about 14 pt, 10 reb, 4 ast, and over 1 steal and block.
Could do worse.
Though like others I would expect Bey to be starter at the beginning of the season, but I think JJ will be the starter by the end of the season.

Hope you right. I want to be mistaken, West was a real piece of work I hated that fcker btw, he was a thorn in our collective butts with Indy those few years. Ugh.

Ya that’s what I’m really saying thanks for clarifying for those who think he’s not gonna get a bump in stats is lame, obviously he will but I’m just wondering the latter of your statement. Bottom line, can we win 45 games with JJ playing significant minutes vs a ⭐️ or vet PF coming in via trade (not naming names I don’t wanna get hit for fan tampering 😐) and the Hawks POSSIBLY winning 50+ games and being a more lethal team come playoff time.

I mean, I guess we can evaluate in the first half and if things aren’t going the way we planned, make a move then for another PF. We don’t need to panic either way, it’s not like we are the Raptors, now those dudes need to panic a bit.

Obviously JJ is way more athletic than West but I think their trajectory will be very similar.

I think It will be a timeshare between Bey and JJ. I think we can expand the role of JJ to 22-25mpg, that is going to give you defense, rebounding and some playmaking from PF position, Bey Will give you 25-30 mpg as offensive specialist from 3 pt. The problem I see is who shares the Frontcourt with JJ..

Your standards are a bit lower than mine. I’m not saying I want the dude to be a Karl Malone and get us 27 ppg. I’m not even knocking him, I think he’s got talent but I’m just trying to figure out what COULD possibly be our weak links and he stands out as one simply because he hasn’t proven it in anything more than spurts.

Now I’m curious to see his game logs for the 2022-23 campaign. Were there any games where he played 30+ minutes? If so, what were his #’s?

Really? If Bey starts I think he keeps it and doesn’t relinquish it to JJ. Bey was my boy comin out of Nova, that boy can ball.

Can't start OO and Bey together. Hawks would get dominated down low and on the boards.

Ya that’s the thing he’s a tweener but so was Royce O. in Quin’s Utah offense a couple years ago. Royce ain’t that big he’s like Saddiq size I think.

Didn't they have a big center for him to play with? 7'2" guy right?

What’s Kevin Willis up to these days, maybe we could sign him to a 10 day so he can shove JJ’s head into the huddle like he did Smoove in 2005 that once.

Call Joe Johnson...

The old man's game is timeless.

As our PF? Perhaps these days why not with the pf shooting 3’s and whatnot. Love 💗 me some JJ. 6 straight times he was an all star folks ⭐️. Pay the man his due.
