The Athletic is not serious about the Hawks.  "so much talent on this team"?   Come on.   1 all star and about 7 average nba rotation players.

The way he puts it, Tony went behind Travis in that situation as well. But who knows -- that's just one side of the story. 

Travis wanted Luka, Tony wanted Trae for $$$. It was a no brainer who was going to win that argument.

The sad part is the underlying racist assumptions as to why Trae would be more lucrative to the franchise than Luka are not even true in the first place.  This city would have embraced Luka because he's damn good.  And he's not even that different a player in style or impact.

Whats the catch then? Why is NY looking to trade him? Seems like that should be a good fit in between Brunson and OG.

Paying him down the line plus if they get something worthwhile in terms of a contract it helps them use it for salary match in the offseason plus their first rounders to get another star player.

Plus he is a limited player and they would like to upgrade longterm.  He is a nice off the bench support player.  He isn't a core guy.  They are ready to lose him and improve their roster so fine with dealing him.
