Lrenfro
http://regulus2.azstarnet.com/blogs/hansen...alim-now-a-spur Salim now a Spur 09/21/2008 03:38 PM Greg Hansen Salim Stoudamire has escaped pro basketball’s burial grounds — the Atlanta Hawks — and now will play for a winner. The ex-Wildcat shooting star has signed with the San Antonio Spurs and is expected to replace the three-point shooting threat of Brent Barry and perhaps Robert Horry. In three years with the dismal Hawks, Stoudamire averaged just 17 minutes per game and was often slowed by a chronic ankle injury. His career average is eight points per game. Perhaps an organization as effective as the Spurs will change Stoudamire’s career path. Winning is contagious, right? Perhaps Salim’s rep as a clubhouse malcontent will change — it will probably have to change; he will have to adapt — as he becomes a role player on a team with superstars Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Tim Duncan. If he does, Salim could spent another 10 years in the league as a Steve Kerr-type specialist and make millions of dollars. Well I for one will hate to see this. But I hope he at least gets some playing time.
Lrenfro
Salim a Spur? Report: Salim Stoudamire signs with Spurs Wire Reports - Greg Hansen, Arizona Daily Star Sunday, September 21, 2008 The Arizona Daily Star is reporting that Salim Stoudamire, the ex-Arizona Wildcat, has left the Atlanta Hawks — and now will play for the Spurs. The wire report comes late Sunday evening. The Spurs have not confirmed the signing with an official announcement. Still, Greg Hansen reports that the shooting star has signed and is expected to replace the three-point shooting threat of Brent Barry and perhaps Robert Horry. Stoudamire is the cousin of former Spur, Damon Stoudamire. He was selected by the Atlanta Hawks in the second round (31st overall pick) of the 2005 NBA Draft. At the University of Arizona, Stoudamire led the Wildcats to an Elite Eight appearance in 2005 (he and Channing Frye were the first four-year players at UA not to make a Final Four appearance since the 1980s). Stoudamire broke the individual three-point percentage record (shot 50.4%), previously held by former Spur and Arizona alumnus Steve Kerr. "In three years with the dismal Hawks," writes Hansen. "Stoudamire averaged just 17 minutes per game and was often slowed by a chronic ankle injury. His career average is eight points per game. "Perhaps an organization as effective as the Spurs will change Stoudamire’s career path... Perhaps Salim’s rep as a clubhouse malcontent will change — it will probably have to change; he will have to adapt — as he becomes a role player on a team with superstars Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Tim Duncan." Boomer
I hope the Hawks crush the Spurs this year just to stick it to that writer that called us dismal.
Premium Member mrhonline Posted September 22, 2008 Premium Member Report Share Posted September 22, 2008 Good for Salim. We'll finally be able to see if he can become a specialist, because if he can't do that for the Spurs, he can't do it anywhere...

TruJerz
http://regulus2.azstarnet.com/blogs/hansen...alim-now-a-spur good pickup for the Spurs. I didnt want to let Salim go yet because I think he was an alright player and he showed that he can contribute when given the opportunity. Everyone excells when they go to the Spurs so I dont see why Salim wont lol he can be a Steve kerr type player shooting wise but I doubt he will ever be as clutch. tho but Salim can shoot lights out! I see him taking some PT from Vaughn at the backup PG spot too. Good luck to him..i've been a fan since he played in Arizona..he will be just fine in San Antonio
TheDude
i'm not sure calling the Hawks out is necessary by the writer....Hey guy, the Spurs won just as many championships last year as the Hawks.
crimedog
yeah, i guess this affirms that Salim isn't hopeless as a player as some would have us believe. on the other hand, it took the kid a long time to catch on anywhere and the spurs aren't committing much to him (i wouldn't imagine). gsuteke
There is absolutely no foundation to make a case that losing Salim will hurt the Atlanta Hawks. All Salim is good for is to come in a game for a possession at a time and shoot the basketball. He doesn't have a position. What is so difficult to digest about that? Plainview1981
Why does this guy have to take shots at the Hawks? Just report the freaking story that he got signed by the Spurs, praise the Spurs even. But take a shot at the Hawks as a burial ground? What a classless writer. Why are you caring what some poor writing dorky looking dude says?

Exactly, I'm used to writers bashing the Hawks but this was just unnecasary. All he had to do was report that Salim got traded. Yea but anyways, I wish Salim the best he has been one my favorite players since his Arizona days.
Gray Mule
We here on Hawksquawk may diss the Hawks, but, dang it, they are OUR Hawks. Want to make a red neck country boy really mad? Kick his old hound dog. He may not be a fine, championship hunting dog, but, he's the property of that red neck. Why stir up trouble? Why kick his dog when you have no real reason to do so? Greg Hansen has kicked our Hawks right in the mouth. Why? Does he believe that it makes him look smart? No, he just proves what a dumb donkey he really is. It's better to keep your mouth shut and have people think you are a dunce than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. Before, he was probably unknown around here. Showing his ignorance, makes him known but he sure didn't win any friends.

Moderators AHF Posted September 23, 2008 Moderators Report Share Posted September 23, 2008 He will certainly have his chance to make his shots now. If he makes them, he should be in the game for a long time which is what I always expected for him. If he shoots like he did in Atlanta, he won't be in the NBA for more than a few years while people are willing to wait on him coming round. Looks like he couldn't even buy time in SA even in the preseason (zero minutes so far)... probably a practice body for them.
